Philippe, as much as I do respect your courage and your will to not surrender until the very end, let's try to be realistic, it's done, he's going to be our new president :00000858.gif: . There's a golden rule in politics, polls ALWAYS give the right result a week before the second round of the election and he's cruising at 55%.

It's going to be a disaster . The PS (which is the french "socialist" party, that is nowadays a sort of pseudo social-liberal party à la Blair/Zapatero) is already on the verge of explosion with Allègre and Besson rooting for Sarkozy and Mélenchon, Emmanuelli and Fabius already talking about creating a new party at the left of the PS. It's sad. Anyway, as Sinead O'Connor once said : "fight the real enemy", so I sent my application to the Green Party a few weeks ago. It's a sad day for democracy and politics in France when such a liar, demagogue and populist gets that kind of support among the population ..... :00001595.gif:

PS: My apologies to the people who might find this franco-french rant inappropriate and boring, but we're really at a bad turn of our politic history right now and I can't help but being very bitter and angry. Sorry again.

It can not be "done" before the election actually begins, I would say;

I have great sympathy for the Verts, and for the last 20 years or so :zuidema.gif: always voted for them on the first round, then PS; but not this time; : Royal is our best chance to beat Berluskozy;

well, "people have the power" they say, so we do have to fight till the end :ajaxtalk.gif:

the 6th may 2007 can still be a great day for freedom :temp.gif:

Mate, sorry to read about this. In Scotland we have entered a wonderful politcal period where the Scottish National Party were returned with the most seats defeating the Labour Party. This was Labours first defeat in Scotland in over 50 years - in spite of the fact that the media ran the most disgusting campaign in living memory in which they did not actually do any reporting but instead tried to put down the SNP and scottish people at every opportunity. The current Labour executive are amongst the most arrogant, distrustful shower of shysters shat on to the face of god's earth.

Hopefully in France you wil get things sorted

Yeah, well done to the Scots Nationalists. I'm quite impressed with what I've seen of Alex Salmond in the past - he does seem to have genuine principals, a rarity these days. I'm not totally sure on the actual SNP policies though, apart from the obvious pro-Scotland bits which I would definately support do they offer a real alternative to the system in Scotland at the moment. What's they're stance on education fee's/privatisation of services/trident etc etc?

I would likely have voted Solidarity anyway for what it's worth.......

Dont apologies mate. Always interested to hear the ins and outs of other countries, especially given how biased news reprots are these days.

Without getting into a political argument and the wrongs and rights of this and that, this is pretty much the story the world over.

In Australia we have had a prime minister that has gotten away with so much bullshit its a joke, and yet he continues to get voted back in. Each time a scandal hits the news he either finds a scape-goat or confuses the crap out of everyone its seems easier to let it go. He's only concern is how popular he is, how he can make big business more happy and is happy to point his middle finger towards future generations by continually ignoring real issues until they hit him smack in the face.

SNP are not in favour of PFI projects for new build schools, hospitals etc.

Yeah, I thought so - but wasn't 100% sure. I see New Labour are thinking of a court challenge in a couple of close run seats anyway re all of the discounted papers. Seeing as there's no proof either way that one party did better than another from all the mix-ups, it'd be really funny if they went to court and lost..........

It'll be intersting to see what happens re the Nuclear issue, aren't the SNP proposing an independant Scotland but with a joint foreign and defence policy?

Would be cool with me - I'm sure that I read that somewhere though about the foreign/defence policy (I didn't imagine it and I don't think it was about any of the other parties....)

I see Solidarity now has one solitary county councillor, down from six ( origially SSP) MSP's - the left always has a tendancy to self destruct like nothing else :icon_surprised.gif:

As I stated: SNP intend to withdraw an Independent Scotland from NATO .. so no chance in hell of a common Defence policy. And since UK defence/foreign policy are somewhat entangled, I can't envision SNP pursuing a common foreign policy with the remainder of the UK.

What a lot there is to read this morning......from bbc.co.uk

"Study reveals referees' home bias

A US academic has devised a formula for what every football fan instinctively understands - referees' decisions tend to favour the team playing at home.

A study at Harvard University looked at 5,000 English Premier League matches involving 50 different referees.

Researcher Ryan Boyko came up with the equation that for every extra 10,000 people in the crowd, the advantage for the home team increases by 0.1 goals.

His study showed certain referees were more likely to be swayed by the crowd.

The figures revealed that away teams scored fewer goals and gave away more penalties, findings which seem to imply that referees are making calls in favour of the home team, possibly as a result of the influence of the crowd.

Some individual referees proved to be more susceptible to crowd influence than others, but Mr Boyko would not name which ones.

More experienced referees were shown to be less biased by the impact of a large crowd, which suggests they may develop a resistance to the home fans' cries.

Mr Boyko, a research assistant in the university's psychology department, said: "Individual referees and the size of the crowd present are variables that affect the home field advantage.

"In order to ensure that all games are equally fair, ideally, all referees should be equally unaffected by the spectators.

"Referee training could include conditioning towards certain external factors, including crowd response.

"Leagues should be proactive about eliminating referee bias. The potential is there for a game to be altered because of factors that subconsciously affect the referee."

The study, which looked at games between 1992 and 2006, will be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Sports Sciences."

Yes, it's again that magical time of the year when the Darwin Awards are
bestowed, honouring the least evolved among us.

Here is the glorious Winner:

1. When his 38-calibre revolver failed to fire at his intended victim
during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would-be robber James Elliot
did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel
and
tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

And now, the Honourable Mentions:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat-cutting
machine and submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company
expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself.
He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef's claim was
approved.

3. A man who shovelled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car
during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman
had
taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver
found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting
from
Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence,
the
driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a
free
ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling
the
staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre
fantasies
The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head
wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the
injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close
he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the
counter,
and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man
pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk
promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled,
leaving
the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the
drawer: $15. (If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a
crime committed?)

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that
he'd just throw a cinderblock through a liquor store window, grab some
booze, and run. So he lifted the cinderblock and heaved it over his head
at the window. The cinderblock bounced back and hit the would-be thief
on
the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of
Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man
grabbed
her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was
able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within
minutes,
the police apprehended the snatcher They put him in the car and drove
back
to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand
there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her.
That's the lady I stole the purse from."

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a
Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, and
demanded
cash.
The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash
register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the
clerk
said they weren't available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked
away.

****** A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER*****

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on
a
Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived
at
the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near
spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying
to
steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage
tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges,
saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
