No, you didn't miss anything "truly fantastic" ;) first half was the same shit as the second. 2 desicions by marco, that i didn't understand - to keep Kuyt on the bench for the whole match and to let seedorf play just 5 min :nooo:Kowalczyk schreef:I only watched the second half of Holland v Romania, so maybe I missed something truly fantastic in the first half, but from what I've seen it must have been one of the worst Oranje performances under Marco van Basten...

Another awful beyond description performance from Marco's team. :pukey:
With a fit RVP on the left and Julien Jenner (never likely to be selected even though he is the best crosser and is a team player) as the right winger Oranje would have the wingers to play 4-3-3, but would still be lacking the midfielders to be able to effect that set up.
Louis Van gaal (since the start of the season) and Henk ten Caate (in the past couple of weeks) realise they do not have the players to play 4-3-3, but Marco seems insistant in persevering no matter how poor the resulting performance.
Marco, the taxi's been reordered.
ps: best game I watched at the weekend was Scotland v's Georgia :headbang: - two teams that used systems suited to their players abilities.

Van der Vaart strike helps Dutch to 3-1 win over Thais
BANGKOK, June 6 (Reuters) -
Captain Rafael van der Vaart scored his third goal in two games to help the Netherlands cruise to a 3-1 win over Thailand in a friendly on Wednesday.
The SV Hamburg midfielder took just three minutes to get the visitors off the mark, latching on to a neat through ball from Wesley Sneijder to bury it inside the far post.
The Thais were overwhelmed throughout the game and did little to trouble the Dutch.
They soaked up constant pressure until the 41st minute when John Heitinga added a second for the Dutch, climbing high above the Thai defence to head home Sneijder's corner from the left.
The Dutch continued to press the hosts and got their third on 55 minutes when Dirk Kut found the unmarked Jan Vennegoor of Frankenstein, who lifted the ball into the top corner from close range.
Tawan Sripan salvaged some pride for Thailand on 65 minutes with a sweetly-struck free kick from 25 metres.
The Netherlands beat South Korea 2-0 last Saturday, with Van der Vaart scoring both goals.

Both are acceptable though. I didn't see the game (on pay TV) and I'm no big fan of England or McLaren but the press here are happy with the result. Estonia are a proper sized country and team so it's not like the Andorra game where they played badly against a small town........ZoefdeHaas schreef: Nor is England's 3-0 over Estonia

Estonia looks pathetic in this campaign. After 7 games 0 points (just like Andorra). So you can't say that Estonia is better team then Andorra nowSE6Ajacied schreef:Both are acceptable though. OK, I hadn't seen that. I did say though that I hadn't (and still haven't) seen the game. The press have been hounding McLaren for weeks now though and they seemed satisfied with the result which is what I was basing my verdict on.....anyway, England might be poor but there's stillManneken Pis schreef:The Estonia coach said before the game that he effectively had 40 players to chose from when deciding his squad...Van basten schreef:Estonia looks pathetic in this campaign. under-21 championship
Netherlands - Portugal 2-1
A small revenge for WC..
First goal scored by Babel from penalty. Vermeer made his debute replacing Waterman in 34min. He had a good game. Maduro played all game. Netherlands are in semis already. last group game against Belgium (de Mul, Vermaelen) will decide who will finish 1 in the group. No differnce really

Holland vs Bulgaria: 2-0. Two goals from the 'Real Madrid connection' (1-0 Sneijder, 2-0 Van Nistelrooy). The only Ajacied to see action was John Heitinga: he played the full 90 minutes.
Former Ajacieden aplenty, as usual: Van der Sar, Melchiot, De Jong, Sneijder, Seedorf and Babel.
John Heitinga left 'Camp Oranje' today, due to "personal circumstances". He will stay in Holland and not play against Albania, in Tirana this upcoming Wednesday.
Marco van Basten called up three of the six players who had earlier dropped out of the squad of 24. The three who have been added are: Afellay (PSV), Van der Vaart (HSV) and Emanuelson (Ajax). No Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He dropped out of the squad of 24 before the Bulgaria game, and has not been called back up for Albania.

Didn't see the game (just highlights), but the Albanian goal should have been allowed. Comments from the tv analysts was VERY negative...we dodged bullet.ajaxillinois schreef:Great win, especially considering Albania fielded 11 pro wrestlers and had the ref in their pocket the entire game. Good to see Urby come on and get the assist.

It did look like Melchiot's own goal maybe should have stood, but Oranje should have had at least 5-7 more free kicks close to the box with obvious calls ignored by the ref. I'd like to think Sneijder would have capitalized on at least one. So, in the end, though Netherlands didn't play their best, they deserved the win.

i just watched the second half yesterday.
the orange looked to have the lions share of posession,
but the field seemed on the small side and albania was really crowding their box. some good build up play, but not enough room for anything but a few sneijder long range shots.
a little room opened up after that red card and a great play by emanuelson led to a great goal by ruud.
i thought the second half was pretty entertaining. a lot better than most of those other qualifying duds.

With regards to the Albania game, I'm all for Ajax selections, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea for van Basten, with so many good choices to choose from. During the whole game I had a gut instinct that there would be an Oranje winner in injury time, I'm glad it happened, but think it may have happened sooner with different substitutions. The Albanians were closing quickly on every ball, and I thought that was one of the biggest difficulties.
I would have liked to see this (at half-time) instead of what van Basten did:
Kuijt on for van Persie/Babel - I think van Persie would have still been effective after van Basten subbed him, but Kuijt should have gone on sometime in the attack due to his workrate and ability around the goal. I think he could have made a difference in such a defensively tight game that Albania was playing and to possibly provide van Nistelrooij with some more chances
Seedorf for de Zeeuw/Melchiot/van Bronckhorst. Melchiot had some runs on the wings and I think Seedorf would have handled them better and would have created more chances if subbed for either. If he went in for one of the defenders, probably would have shifted another midfielder back to a more defensive role, even though the Albanians weren't threatening much other than on the counter.

I watched the first half and I thought Holland were really good, to be honest. More than 70% possession, they totally had 'em by the throat, whereas the conditions were a bit rough to say the least (storm, rain).
I left home during the half-time break, so I don't know what happened in the second half, but it's been a while since I saw Holland play so well as in the first half.
So, no worries. They'll hammer Slovenia and we're gonna go to Euro 2008.
