I wonder how it will go for AZ this evening. I bet it will be a draw.

Platini's plan sounds nice, but UEFA and the major clubs will find a way around it, I think...Orange14 schreef:They will just extort some more money from the banks! Under Platini's proposal, Madrid would not be eligible for CL football.
This Platini plan is supposes to start in 2012. There is absolutely no way Real Madrid will have cleared their debts by then. But they're not gonna kicked out. I just can't see it happening.

Pure PR exercise, and it's not like it's the first time he's "let someone down".

Re: General Football Discussion
The piece on our old pal Morten Olsen in the October issue of World Soccer also mentions "the scintillating 'Danish Dynamite' side of the 1980s," but only by way of comparing it to the "anonymous players and utilitarian style" of Olsen's current Denmark squad.Manneken Pis schreef:Very nice piece about the Danish side of the 1980's .....

The article is actually quite complimentary: "The unknown warriors have done just fine, though - and maybe having a laid-back leader wearing jeans suits their mood perfectly as they quietly go about subduing the flashy, catwalk talents of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic."

Foppe de Haan is the new coach of Ajax Cape Town but unless there are two guys with the same name I think this story might have the wrong name for Ajax CT's youth academy head...

OK, if I'd been less lazy I could have checked that. Main point of my posting it anyway is that I was interested in the story. Obviously I know about the history regarding Dutch people in South Africa but I still find it quite fascinating that "our" team have so many links to the Netherlands, despite being run pretty much at arms-length etc.Jinne schreef:It's not the wrong name. I don't actually have anything against poor Pellegrini, except the fact that he agreed to work for the Dark Side, but I have to admit I LOVED seeing this result in the paper this morning. The Guardian schreef:"There's no explanations. We were focused and the training sessions were very good, but Alcorcón played very well," Pellegrini told Marca after the game. "We hope our fans can forgive us after this defeat."

Re: General Football Discussion
Due to the vagaries of stateside distribution, I just picked up the November issue of FourFourTwo, with cover story on the "100 Best Players in the World." Inherently stupid idea, of course, but still kinda fun.
No huge surprises in the top ten (in order: 1. Messi, 2. C. Ronaldo, 3./4. Xavi/Iniesta, 5. Villa, 6. Torres, 7. Gerrard, 8. Kaká, 9. Eto'o, 10. Rooney).
Others of interest: 13. Ibrahimovic, 40. Robben, 48. Sneijder, 65. van Persie, 75. Huntelaar, 85. van der Sar, 92. van Nistelrooy.
No Suárez; in fact, no current Eredivisie players at all.
