I don't care who wins (actually, that's not true, I hope Holland win). What I really want to see, however, is Kevin Pieterson get hit in the balls with a 90mph delivery. Several times.

Are you an Aussie by any chance?

I love the way the Aussies dislike the English cricket team for absoloutly no reason. :neutral.gif:

Actually, I'm a Texan. I just think Pieterson is a huge wanker. Talented, but a total wanker.

I will be rooting for the West Indies, personally.

If you came to Sussex you would find we all hate Pietersen and a total wanker sums him up.

Why do Aussies hate English cricketers. History, we sent our prisoners out there initially but cricket between the countries has been going on for 130 years. It is a love hate relationship. IMO there is only one international sporting event that matters the Ashes England v Australia no other international cricket matters.

I will leave it to either of our aussies to answer fully.

As it stands now, England are on pace to lose to Holland. :drecul.gif:

I know that the Ozzies hate England a lot, but having lived in the West Indies, I can vouch for the fact that there is no one the West Indies would rather beat than England as well. Probably because of the whole colonialism/slavery thing. I'd imagine it's the same thing, minus the slavery thing, for the Ozzies.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Holland have just beaten England at cricket ...... it's a very beautiful day.

Oh ... and we don't hate the English, infact we were the last country to successfully invade England, so technically they were our colony ... ;o)

Sorry if this is just too far afield, but since we're heading into the summer break....

In my never-ending attempt to learn more about the homeland of my favorite club, I just read Ian Buruma's Murder in Amsterdam: Liberal Europe, Islam, and the Limits of Tolerance, about the causes and implications of the murder of Theo van Gogh. (Several passing references to football and specifically Ajax, including one awful passage in which Buruma's friend Hans, an Ajax supporter, invites him to the Klassieker in Amsterdam, but due to "a terrible mistake," they are seated amid the Feyenoord supporters, and Buruma gets a close-up earful of the "sinister hissing sound from hundreds, maybe thousands, of beer-flecked mouths" which is intended to simulate the gas of the death camps.)

The book was published in 2006, and I don't know how much things have changed (if at all) since then as far as the situation with Moroccan immigrants and/or Muslims in the Netherlands. I found the book extremely thought-provoking, not to say depressing. Anyone else out there read it and care to weigh in?

I can't really say I hate England that much. In fact I probably dislike the Australian cricket team far more (probably just because I know more about them than I do about England). I think because it's a game of such small margins, the most successful players are the ones who will do absolutely anything to win, i.e. cheats and wankers. I'm really not a fan of that sort of thing, e.g. I can't stand Ricky Ponting after his and his team's terrible behaviour when India toured two summers ago.

But yeah, most Australians definitely hate England for the reasons other people have mentioned - colonialism etc.

well last night we were beaten by the better team. A humiliating defeat. Still another game we invented but are crap at. At least Luke Wright, who plays for my team Sussex did well.

Still England play Kazakhstan today and once Beckham has beaten them we will be odds on favourites for the WC .

He's an idiot. I don't think he'll last until the planned 2011 elections. That's the thing about being politcian. You have your peak then fall.

His party and the liberals gained big, while Jan-Peter's Party lost big, but are still big. The biggest losers were the socialists.

But it's not only in Holland. It seems like everywhere the idiots are becoming more popular.

A great night for Oranje last night, being involved in cricket admin in a part-time capacity I know almost all the Dutch team personally - great bunch of lads, and I was cheering them on last night. We were dreading going to the cricket club this morning we thought we were going to cop a lot of stick, my kids decided to take their mother's nationality until it all blows over.

My good mate Pete had a fine game, picking up a wicket, a good catch, and about 30 valuable runs. Him and his girlfriend are supposed to be coming round here for a meal two weeks tonight, I think we are going to have to listen to him ribbing us all night long.

Was listening to the radio the other night, and on the show they were talking about the takeover of Notts County. Apparently on Sky they were interviewing the new owner in front of one of the stands that has the name of the team emblazened on the seats. The name was of course to big to fit the whole screen and as such the Notts and the y from County was omitted. They then had the new owner positioned in such a way that he hid the "o" in county ...................... :biggrin.gif:

Not a good way to treat the new owner me thinks !!!!!!

This young pitcher had phoned his dad and convinced him to fly out to California for this game, saying something like "I think something special is going to happen tonight." He should have gotten his first Major League win, except the bullpen blew a 4-run lead. I'm sure they're shattered about that today.

So sad...
Driver accused of murder in Angels pitcher's death pleads not guilty

A San Gabriel man accused of killing Anaheim Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in an April car crash pleaded not guilty today to three counts of murder, drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, who appeared in Orange County Superior Court, is accused of having a blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit and running a red light when he slammed into the victims’ vehicle in Fullerton.

Adenhart was a passenger in a car driven by Courtney Stewart, 20. Stewart, of Diamond Bar, and Henry Pearson, 25, of Manhattan Beach were also killed.

Gallo, who was driving with a suspended license from a prior drunk driving conviction, allegedly ran from the scene and was later arrested. He faces 55 years to life in prison if convicted.

Here's the link to see the Sky report:

http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2 ... -something

The bloke interviewed is not the new owner, but the current club chairman John Armstrong-Holmes.
There's a large group that doesn't like him as he is also head of the supporters Trust (60% owners of the club) and other trust members have resigned from the board recently because various "alledged" shennanigans.

As a Notts/Ajax fan this situation leaves me non-plused... the club (the olderst professional club in the world, that inspired Juventus to go to black and white stripes versus the pink they used to have) is struggling in the fourth dividion of English football and desperately needs funding, but this Middle Eastern investment group is giving very little info on their exact intentions, and the current chairman is asking us to accept "gifting" our ownership to this group on the basis of "trust us we'll look after the club".

Okay - question for our NYC people!

I'm coming to New York this week on a business trip. On Thursday I'm meeting someone upstate, in a place called Mount Tremper, NY.

Question is: how the f**k do I get there? I only got my driver's license in August 2008, less than one year ago, so the major car rental companies won't give me a car. So I will have to go by bus or train. Does anyone know how that works, where to look or -in general- how I can find my bus/train? Also: will it be possible to get back to Manhattan at the end of the day, or would it be better to find a B&B in (or near) Mount Tremper?

Hope you can help.

Cheers.

It has been some years since I was through there. I remember that it is close by Woodstock but don't know to much about transportation. The area is a popular summer resort and I'm pretty sure there is regular bus service from NYC. See: http://www.visitthecatskills.com/map.php for transportation alternatives. If you have to rely on the bus, it may be hard going up and back the same day. Hope this helps.
