According to ajaxf-side.nl, an informant has leaked the colors of the new away shirt for next year and they will be red and black. Apparently similar to the Champion's League kit of a few years back (the almost same one that was used by Bayern Munich).

Don't know if it's true or not, but seems plausible. Although I can't see too much red being used in the design as it's a main color on the home shirt. I think I actually prefer blue for an away shirt as it's got a long history and black seems to be the default cop-out color when a designer can't think of anything else (at least in American uniform trends). I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The same article says that the new away shirt will be debuted this season in the final away match, 3rd May against Sparta.

I guess there must be some economics behind this as well. They must figure that we fans of the club will need to buy the new kit when it comes out!! :drecul.gif:

Adidas strike back: stripes to re-appear!

Bericht door Kowalczyk » wo apr 01, 2009 7:22 am

The independent AFCA Supportersclub reports that the infamous red stripes of Adidas are to re-appear on the Ajax for the next nine or ten seasons, starting in the summer of 2009. The Ajax home jersey had stripes sleeves in the 2001-2002 season, but the fans hated it and felt it was 'sacrilege'. After a long protest action (and disappointing sales) Adidas were prepared to compromise: as per the 2002-2003 campaign the Ajax home jersey only had three red stripes on the sleeves in UEFA competition. In domestic competitions the sleeves and shoulders were all white.

Seven years later the stripes are to return. The reason? Of course: money. Adidas are paying Ajax a considerably bigger amount of money, but they demanded that Ajax wear a home jersey with striped sleeves in all competitions. Ajax agreed to that and informed the various supporters groups, who - predictably - freaked out. The club, however, stated that they could not resist Adidas' pressure this time, because so much money was involved. Reportedly, it is a done deal and it's too late to change anything.

If you're interested (and understand Dutch), the AFCA Supportersclub's statement can be read here.

There must be some bored supporters group members around.

They could play in dayglo singlets sponsored by Monsanto for all I care. As long as they're playing nice football.

Yeah, the stripes are some what of a minor detail, but it says a lot about sports these days. In all honesty it's the play on the pitch that's most important, not the shirt. I don't think they look good and really are nothing else than more advertising for Adidas. How many Adidas logos do they need on the kit anyway? There's already what 4, one on the shirt, the shorts, and one on each sock. But most manufacturers seem to be pretty carried away trying to get that exposure on any uniform, even if it looks redundant and a bit ridiculous.

Unfortunately, money dictates today, and Ajax wanted the best deal and felt this was a price worth paying. Ajax gets something in return with the bigger contract and more money. I think I've said it before, but it does seem to be an unwelcome trend for most fans, that in today's game the manufacturer has more power to dictate (either because of contracts with the club, or just general ineptness within the club) the uniform design. The club wants money, the manufacturer wants advertising and in the end money, while the fan is left out of any input, but provides the economics for the other parties to benefit.

I'd prefer it without the stripes, but it is what it is.

And even if the supporters hate it...

I remember the sales back in 2001 were seriously disappointing. The 2002-2003 home kit, on the other hand (without striped sleeves) was a major hit and one of the more popular home jerseys in recent years.

I especially don't like the way the Ajax board handled this case, informing the supporters this late. Ten years ago it didn't work out with these stripes, curious.

Well, we'll just have to stick to our classics:

What they're showing on Ajax.nl is a preview type thing. It's not been released just yet, so you can't buy it anywhere (yet)...

I wonder what Bayern Munich's home kit will look like next season... :smallgrin.gif:

I like it except for the weird red stripe on the front (and back?) across the top of the chest. It just looks out of place and unnecessary.

A nice change, but yeah, is Bayern going to have the same thing next year too?

I love this one too but might have to wait even longer than that. With the exchange rate right now 70 Euro's (I'm guessing) is about £69.00!

Will probably wait till they have them in Sports Direct (about £35.00) or if I can't wait that long the Adidas shop in London will gladly rip me off to the tune of about £45.00 for one.

This is apparently the next Bayern home kit (the third kit is apparently white) so perhaps we can all stop worrying :smallgrin.gif:

Got my new away shirt today. have to say it's very nice, I actually like the red piping/stitching - looks better in reality than in the picture.

I got it for £35.00 in Sports Direct in Oxford Street, London. It's available for the same price + postage on the www as well (not sure if they deliver abroad though).

The new home kit for next year was released (or pictures thereof) today:

My first impression was that it reminded me a lot of the shirts from the late 90's with white collar. I think I like the red collar from 2 years ago better, the white stands out more, but I like the consistency of the red in the middle if there is going to be a collar. Also back to an embroidered Ajax logo, rather than a patch. I never really got that as it was only the home shirt last year, the away shirt and every other home/away shirt in recent years was without a patch.

However, I think the back is great. I've always been a fan of the XXX on the shirt, but I think I might like the Amsterdam coat of arms on this one even better. I think it looks pretty good and fits in with the design. It also looks like new lettering for the names, it's similar but more rounded on the curves and comes to sharper points on the end. I really liked the old font, this one is similar, my only complaint is that it looks like the designer wanted something edgier, and this is it.

I guess the Adidas sleeve stripes are there for good unless something drastic changes, I hadn't heard otherwise. No gold stars either, I guess they gave up on that after last year :drecul.gif: . I'm sure we'll have 3 whenever we win the league again.

Hmmm, I wonder if the cover boy for the poster will be staying with the club and not getting transferred? Certainly would help our odds on winning something next season! :headbang.gif:

I like the little Amsterdam crest on the back.

I do not like the white collar and the three red stripes on the sleeves.

I do like the Ajax crest embroidered 'white on red' again.

That's actually really nice. I won't get too hung up on the stripes, I'm happy that we've got an individual design as well, unlike

Chelsea http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/a ... ealed_3488

Bayern Munich http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/b ... -0910_3748

and New York Red Bulls to name but three http://www.kitbag.com/stores/kitbag_4_5 ... l=E95HUQMM

I like the Amsterdam crest on the back, hope it's embroidered though rather than the transfer it appears to be.

I've the idea that the Amsterdam crest is used as a Trojan horse by Adidas to make us buy their ugly stripes. :hypocrite.gif: The rest is nice though.
