I might have missed something already posted, but seems that a former Ajax player is now trying his luck all the way back in my home country of Australia. To be more specific in Perth, for Perth Glory in the A-league...

I am sure we all remember Victor Sikora. He even made team of the week.

Amazing move...

I also read that Jason Culina (currently at PSV and ex-Ajax) will move back to Australia to play for Newcastle Jets.

He has signed on with Gold Coast United for the 2009-10 Season. It will be their first season in the A-League (totally new team). He will be the club captain and marquee player. All A-league clubs can have one marque player, and this player is then exempt from the salary cap.

This is a huge purchase. An Australian international, still in his prime, and still wanted by his European club (PSV wanted him to sign on for another season).

News are reporting he felt it was time to move home with his wife and kids.

I always regarded him highly as a player. Hard working and a decent reader of the game. Good luck to him (but not when the Gold Coast play Melbourne of course).

Sort of surprising rumor. Davids to River Plate:

http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=g ... &type=lgns
Davids Keen On River Plate Move

River Plate are hoping to reinforce their squad with plenty of quality this season, and according to reports are in negotiations with Ajax Amsterdam’s former Dutch international Edgar Davids.

Apparently the 35-year-old is a keen follower of Argentine football, and is interested in a move to River Plate. Reports indicate that the defensive midfielder could join the Buenos Aires giants for one year.

With a good deal, Davids would jump at a move to the club. He is hoping to end his career in Argentina, and his preferred choice would be River.

Davids, who was born in Suriname, South America, has been out of action for many months, due to injury, but he is motivated to return to professional football this year.

River boss, Nestor Gorosito, affirmed that he is searching for an established defensive midfielder, but he has yet to reveal that this could be Davids.

Since making his professional debut with Ajax in 1991, Davids went on to play for European giants AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, and Inter Milan. Prior to his return to Ajax, he played for Tottenham Hotspur.
It also says he's been out due to injury, anyone know what that's about? I thought he just hadn't found a club since van Basten dropped him.

Fixed Your Post. Don't wish to be pedantic but I think if anything it was the other way round - Davids ran out of the door as soon as he heard MvB was arriving.

The move to River Plate would indeed be interesting, he would then be the second ex Ajacied on their books (Rosales is also there)

Nigel de Jong is interesting Man City for £15m. Due to our poor management at the time we let him go for about £500,000 .
Doubt we will get any of this by way of a sell on clause.

Looks like Nigel is going to Man City.

Sky news the other night reported that he wants to join a big club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I turned to my son and said he did that already when as a little boy he joined Ajax and then at 18 when he played for the first team.

Hamburg and Man City are not big clubs compared with Ajax. Man City are a nondescript club with a rich owner.

If Hamburg sell Nigel de Jong to Manchester City for 20 million, Ajax will receive almost the entire 'youth development fee' of approximately 1 million euros.

In all fairness: I don't think Ajax are 'big club'.

Big historic reputation, yes, but when players talk about a 'big club' they normally mean: "A very rich club, playing in one of Europe's major leagues, that can pay me sh*tloads of money and that I can win trophies with."

I see that.

But even then: I don't see why Manchester City are so much 'bigger' than Hamburger SV, to be quite honest... I'm quite convinced that the cash is the only thing that will be considerably 'bigger' at Man City; not so much the league he'll be playing in, the stadium, the attandances or the title chances...

Nigel de Jong has joined Man City. They are only bigger than Ajax in 1 way They have more money than any one else but they are a small non descript club.He has joined for money and no other reason.

In todays paper their CEO states , if we have not got Kaka it is not the end of the world , we have got Craig Bellamy.I really had to laugh at that.

I do agree with your point Ko , about us not being a big club etc, but we are still a great club and our record is still better than nearly every other club in Europe.Man City and Chelsea may be mega rich but they can only dream at winning the European cup 4 times.

That really is quite hilarious. Is Cook not a football man?

It's strange, I was reading an article about the transfer and he seemed surprised that Milan and Kaka's agent were trying to take them to the cleaners. What do they expect? Everyone knows they've got more cash than brains...

An obscure name but Jordy Brouwer is being loaned by Liverpool to RKC for the rest of the season. He is nearly a striker who left us for Liverpool back in Jan 07. At the time he was in our A1 youth team and Ajax had not decided to give him a contract but Liverpool jumped in and he has done very little in their reserves for 2 years and is now coming back to Dutch 2nd division.

In the last 3 years at least a dozen Dutch kids have been nicked from Dutch club youth systems by English clubs and luckily Brouwer is the only one from Ajax.He is clearly no loss.

This is one of the reasons players should stop leaving so early. Holland has one of the best youth developments in Europe. Why on earth would you go to England when you aren't even 18? I cannot honestly see what you can learn there, that you couldn't in Holland at that age, especially if you aren't playing in the first squad.

Happy to be told otherwise, but I am going to assume the youth coaches in Holland are better for technical development than the ones in the UK.

Would go along with you DAN. In fact of all these young dutch kids who have come to England Brouwer was by far the oldest at nearly 19 when he came whereas the others have all been 16/17 and in 2 cases 15 year olds have been signed.

The 16/17 year olds at Ajax are so far staying with us and hopefully that will continue.

There has been talk of UEFA stopping u18's from moving abroad. The sooner this is brought in the better.

Back to Brouwer, good luck to him, I doubt he will return to Liverpool.

Nope, he's a marketing guy that has been brought in by the Sheikhs to sheikh things up a bit at City.

Apparently during the negotiations Kaka's dad asked him "Just how much money will you be paying my son?" Cook had no answer, instead he started waffling on about International image rights, etc. That's more or less when Kaka's people gave up.

Cook has achieved the near impossible feat of making Silvio Berlusconi look like an upstanding and moral person. I suspect he won't be round all that long.

Our old friend Mido has joined Wigan on loan. Pro club no 9 !! and he is still only 26.

Egyptian club , Ghent, Ajax, Marseilles, Celta Vigo, Roma, Spurs, Middlesbrough and now Wigan.

And what has he done since leaving us ? sod all . Hang on what has he ever done !! I would be mortified if we every signed him again but clubs keep signing him .Overweight, never fit and overrated.

I watch a lot of Spanish football and I do follow that basket case called Real Madrid, however somethings making me sad! Our hero Huntelaar is barely playing and when he is he looks a shadow of himself. He played against Numancia last night for twenty minutes and was utterly awful, knocked off the ball constantly, could have had a great chance on goal but produced argubly the worst ball control of a simple pass I've ever seen from him. He looked positively amateur in comparison to his team mates, perhaps he needs to settle, but i dont see how he is going to gain pace magically. Poor Klaas Jan, COME BACK!

I watched part of the Oranje Madrid match today. Van der Vaart looked quite good, almost had a brace. Sneijder also started and played well. KJH was in the selection but did not play. I continue to beleive that this was a wrong decision for him. No way will he play ahead of Raul (a Spanish icon) and he seems to be now behind Higuain.

The youth development fee for Nigel de Jong is great, but surely Ajax stuck a sell-on clause of 10%-15% on the sale to Hamburg? It would be absolutely criminal if they didn't.
