New Players for Ajax

I think he's a player we need, more than another midfielder or forward. He's 30 and I'm not convinced that he's anything special, but I do think he can fill a hole this squad has had for a few years. How long he can do it is another question.

The problem is that he does NOT have a signed contract with Twente. There was a verbal agreement on the contract and the agent immediately contacted Ajax about the availability during this transfer window. I think this stinks and is not ethical behavior (though most agents and ethics don't go together). We will probably get him and it's a good thing we already played Twente at their arena as I'm sure Ajax will not be welcome there for some time to come.

No agreement over Wielaert evidently Twente want 4m euros!!!

I do not know what the rest of you guys think but this is way too much for a30 year old who has not played internationals. Anything over 2m euros and Ajax would be throwing money away. We will get 1 good year out of him and by the summer of 2010 we will sell him for next to nothing.

At 4m that makes only Cvitanich Sulejmani and Suarez who cost more!!!!!!!!!! Crazy.

Well the Independent this morning had v.d. Sar to Ajax for £8m. It was in the "rumours" section of the sports pages and at that price I hope it's exactly that.

I agree 100%. this strikes me as some kind of panic purchase. It made some sense back in the summer before we picked up Oleguer. We are thin in the back but I think we can make it thorough this campaign and then reconsider in the summer what needs to be done. If pressed Lindgren can move to the back line as he played there during the league playoffs last spring when there was a gap because of yellow card accumulations (can't remember who was out for one of the matches).

Maybe we should give up on trying to get Twente's players and turn elsewhere.Signing Elia is a dead duck and surely we can get someone better than Wielaert for the price.We offered 3m euros they want 4m!!
After all is he any better than what we have. Vermaelen and Vertonghen are rated among the best defenders in the Dutch league this season.I do not believe he is any better than Oleguer either.

4 million definitely is too much for Wielaert. If that really is the fee they want, we should forget about the whole thing and start searching elsewhere.

Who do you see us buying for attack? With Kennedy, Rommedahl and Martina all likely to leave this month we have only Suarez, Sulejmani
Cvitanich and Leonardo as attackers. Bodul probably not yet ready, the only reserve of note.

We surely need to get another attacker and I cannot see Elia coming as Twente will not want to let us have another of their players. Some rumour of Tom de Mul, who has spent 1 and a half years on Sevilla's sub bench since taking the money and leaving us.

De Mul would be a good move, cause we have not real right wingers anymore.
but I insist that we need a central striker behind cvitanich. I would have expected bodul in the squad that trained in Portugal, quite surprisingly MVB did not call him.

I agree that Tom De Mul would be a good move ; especially if Rommedahl and Kennedy leave. He has more experience than other rumored wingers.

I don't think it's a good thing to bring back players who thought they were too good for Ajax and then miserably failed abroad. And I'm not sure De Mul would be ok, I thought Ajax was too harsh with him?

Here is a prediction. Assuming we lose Suarez in the summer 2010, I will put my money on Ajax signing Roy Beerens of Heerenveen, he has been impressive this season, he can play on both flanks, and completely tormented Urby Emanuelson earlier this season.

I predict Liverpool will steal Suarez this summer. Who knows, maybe Babel would come the other way?!

Seems like the new Ajax strategy is to poach players from Gronnigen and Twente and Heerenveen the past few years.

de mul signed to genk, elia is in contract talks with twente, but, most surprisingly, leonardo seems near to a move to turkish side trabzonspor, this according to some reports.
this means that, with rommedahl bakircioglu and martina possibly going, we don't have real wingers, except suarez and sulejmani, athough he recently is playing on 10
leo away would be a very, very bad move.

It does seem all the players who can leave are wingers . If players like Rommedahl and Kennedy are not wanted by Marco we do need to sell them quick but we are short of attacking players as already posted.

Our young reserves are not ready as the regular wingers Martina and Goossens can go Manucharyan plays about one hour of football a month and Bodul is not yet ready.
Letting Leo go would be a bit stupid as he has looked good coming on as
a sub.

Who we buy remains to be seen but we need to bring in a couple of players if all the above mentioned leave this month.

good news. today marco van basten is reported to say that leonardo will remain an Ajacied. good move!
as far as I am concerned, the squad for the rest of the season is almost done. I insist that we need a backup for cvitanich, but let's hope that the man is darko bodul and that he'll be gradually added to the 1st team.
now we have just to get rid of gentenaar, rommedahl, martina, gentenaar. non easy but.. and maybe anita on loan.
24 players (I am not considering the recovering donald and van der heijden) plus bodul is the perfect number. it would be a good job by VB and Blind, but the transfer market is not over yet....

Too bad we did not go out and get someone to replace KJH. 3 goals against a lightweight team is not good enough for Dario. I was expecting to see photos of angry fans around the fan shop like during the dark days of Ten Cate on ajax foto side after the Heerenveen loss. Not that they are a lightweight club, or Groningen for that matter either but 2 losses in a row! Brutal! Transfer window shuts Monday but I guess there is no point in shopping now that AZ won and is 9 points ahead, playoffs it is, AGAIN!

Didn't see any of yesterdays game (just as well as it sounded pretty bad) but aren't we a bit premature in writing off the whole season? I agree it's unlikely on current form of both teams but we still have to play AZ and if we beat them then it will be "only" a three point gap.

We're a little bit late with the traditional Christmas slump surely but didn't we lose the title on only goal difference or something the other year having had a similarly disasterous period over Christmas/New Year.

Not saying things are good, just that I think we're being a wee bit premature in writing the whole season off. Not that it makes finishing second any better btw but I thought they had scrapped the CL play-offs now?

Number 1 and 2 don't play play-offs this year.
