Here we go again...
According to Sp!ts, one of Holland's fantastic freebie newspapers (the full colour toilet paper that commuters read on their trains), Ajax are preparing a 2.5 miilion euro bid for Nwankwo Kanu (who's now playing for Portsmouth).
Nwankwo Kanu is the 'new Dennis Bergkamp', when it comes to transfer rumors: each and every time the transfer window opens, at least one newspaper will claim that he's about to return to Ajax...
Something tells me it's not gonna happen.

Now this is what I call good news... (it's from NOS Teletekst):
Ajax and Twente are once again talking about a possible transfer of defender Rob Wielaert to the Amsterdam outfit. Ajax's previous attempt, in the summer of 2008, was unsuccesful, but the situation has changed: Ajax received a large transfer fee from Real Madrid (for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar), whereas the renewed deal Wielaert penned in Enschede (until 2012) includes a special clause for a limited transfer fee (reportedly 3 million euros).
That would be a very good move. I don't think we need another fast, sexy forward like Elia (unless it's a real centre forward), but we can sure as hell use a proper, 'no bullshit' type defender.

I would also prefer Wielart over Elia, but I don't think we'll be getting either, at least this winter. I think it would be worth even paying an overvalued transfer fee to get a proper defender at this point. The Huntelaar money should easily cover it, but I'm not expecting anyone of much quality coming in over the next few weeks, unfortunately.

According to the infallibly accurateSPL schreef:I think he is about 28/29 so it may only be about £3m max.

I confess I know nothing about him. Would he really make that much of a difference?

We are apparently looking at 19 yr old Sofiane Feghouli from Grenoble. Appartently, he is a playmaker.
With this much interest, no chance though.

VI.nl is running a story that Robbie Wielaert, currently with Twente in Spain, has lost the captain's armband. The report indicates that Blaise N'Kufo is FC Twente's new captain.
Not sure is this is punishment for being linked to Ajax or the first step of cutting ties with the player.

Can't imagine that makes Wielart want to stay or feel much more welcome with Twente. I honestly didn't think we'd get him at first, but this and the buyout clause he has in his newly signed contract seem to indicate that it might very well happen.
I think he's a player we need, more than another midfielder or forward. He's 30 and I'm not convinced that he's anything special, but I do think he can fill a hole this squad has had for a few years. How long he can do it is another question.
