Cheers Ko, My little girl was christened yesterday so out all day and missed this one. Nice Christmas present from Ajax this - makes a change from their usual offerings (Vitesse away sticks in the mind). Six good goals here.

Suarez is seriously getting on my nerves though. He's a good player so what's with all that simulation s**t! The sending off for instance, without even mentioning the free kick that led to it. It's clear that he was jostled by the defender but did he really need to go down like he'd been shot in the face?? Totally ridiculous and for me spoiled an otherwise excellent performance.

I have to say I disagree with you here...

For starters: the Ajax player that got elbowed in the face was Cvitanich, not Suárez (you seem to be unaware of that, but I'm not 100% sure).

Otherwise? Suárez was guilty of three dives against Slavia Prague (and he got what he wanted for the third attempt). Embarrassing. I don't like that shit at all. But against De Graafschap...? He deserved that free-kick just outside of the box in the first half, he sure as hell deserved a penalty this time - and I thought he had a brilliant match. No cheating whatsoever, as far as I'm concerned.

It's interesting how defenders now try to turn things around. The formula is very simple: let's mow Suárez down in the penalty box, and if he falls down we will all act as if it was yet another of his annoying dives.

Not every 'dive' by Luis Suárez is a 'dive'... Let's not forget that he is one of the Eredivisie's best forwards, and that he is quite frequently brought down by defenders.

For the referees it's all very simple:

Is it a dive? No penalty and perhaps a yellow card for Suárez.

It is not a dive, but a real foul? Penalty and a yellow card for the perpetrator.

Simple. Reputations don't count. Every case is a 100% isolated case.

OK, I probably need glasses, but in my defence the screen on my PC is very small and they do both have dark hair :blush.gif: . I suppose I'm falling into the same trap as everyone else too - it looked a bit exagerated to me so it must be Suarez.

As for the free kick, it's not so much that I think there wasn't a trip (there was), it's the "I've just walked on a landmine impression" that comes afterwards that pee's me off. Totally with you that some of Suarez's falls are genuine and that defenders exploit his reputation but that's exactly the point. If you've got a reputation like he has then of course defenders are going to react to that. I can't work out the percentages but as well as winning some dodgy penalties he's also lost some genuine ones as everyone assumes he has dived which could potentially cost us points if it hasn't already.

As I said, he;s a good, quick and skillful player but I really don't like the diving s**t

Just another of my two cents: Is it me or did the captain's Armband really suit Vermaelen? I felt he did far more as a captain than Lindgren had been previously, for instance standing up for Enoh when he got fouled, admittedly a problem could be that he's young and got a bit of a temper, whereas Lindgren in effect near sage like at around 26 compared the general youngsters of our team. I think when Steks comes back he will find it hard to move up from vice captain, My Vote: Vermaelen!

Overacting??? OK, next match, you stand just behind me...and I'll treat you to the same treatment that Cvitanich had!

An elbow in the mouth when you aren't expecting it is very unpleasant! Start looking at the positives!!!

They came, they saw, they conquered! What more can you ask??

Just to point out that Lindgren was only 24 last month. Still one of the older players in the squad .

Back to yesterday the elbow incident was bad at first sight then I saw Cvitanich on the ground with blood from his mouth. My thoughts are for offences like this you should get more than a3 match ban . A cynical elbow in someones mouth has to be worth more than 3 match ban.

Would agree Suarez did not dive for the penalty yesterday but he certainly did some diving the other night.

The problem with Suarez is that he's learned how to play this way his whole life. It's a rare Uruguayan that isn't taught how to simulate from the get-go. It's hard to un-learn the habit.

Doesn't matter too much, because I suspect he'll be gone this summer to Spain or Italy, where that kind of behavior is much less frowned upon.

You got that right.

He got five today. Plus another match conditional.

Nice one. Dario wasn't over-reacting. That elbow hit him hard and right in the face. I saw blood, too.

OK, well you guys who saw it live or on proper TV saw it better than me. That does sound bad but it didn't look so bad when I saw it. As I hinted at this morning, I think my view was tainted by the fact I thought it was Suarez again. I don't think I'm generally one to whinge on here, certainly not a players who have a bad game for example. Dario, if you're reading this, didn't see the blood mate - if I had I don't think I would have cried over-reaction but the shot I had I wasn't even certain it got you in the face particularly

It was interesting yesterday in that Vidic of ManU was given a straight red card for an elbow to the face that really did look accidental compared to what Cvitanic took yesterday. Vidic is set to miss at least one (maybe up to three) of ManU's CL matches coming up.

I agree with the others that the shot Dario took was deliberate and not a soft touch.

The 5 match ban for Vollmer is spot on. As for Vermaelen , I'm not surprised at the way he comported himself as captain. I saw him in that role with Jong Ajax on several occasions. He seemed a natural at marshalling the defense on set plays and directing the ball out of the back .

shite. been away for weekend in scotland for xmas and cum back to this pish.shite, without suarez for this part of season ajax would be fuckin nowhere. he alone has kept out season going, not huntellar, not a defender wee luis whether he fuckin dives or net has kept our club, alive for part 2 of the season. the wee bugger has taken mare shite on the field than any ajax playe than i remember in 5 years as a season card holder but he gets up and gets on with it. if hintelarr took half the fuckin crap suarez has ans survived he would be worth a lot more money.

am drunk at 4 58 on xmas eve but all i will say is that some of you should get a fuckin grip and look at reality. we are 2nd in league at half way stage with some awful players and so far no wonderful performances but we are in there now and roll on part 2 because as ajax fan i have feeling we are gong to do something no ajax team has done in 4 years and win the fuckin league.

anyhoo merry christmas and go on the ajax

My my I seem to have touched some nerves don't I! Haven't criticised the team, or even Suarez's general contribution which has been excellent.

Just the diving.

That's all.

And I think we'd still be 2nd without it.

Must try to stay away from controversy in future as it's obviously too controversial.

Merry Christmas.

Suarez is indeed our star player and I agree we would be in the shit without him.If he stopped looking to dive and looked to pass more then we would score more goals and he would be an even bigger talent.
