I am far from convinced about some of our reserve signings. I see today the Dutch beloften team ie U21 team are having a training 3 days next week and of 29 players only Anita and Goossens are in it.

3 other players ( 2 obscure) in this squad have come through our youth system. Wormgoor, sacked by us is already a Utrecht first team squad player . 2 other players who were not good enough to get a contract with us are Godee of Sparta , released in 2007 and Lachman released this summer signed for Groningen.

Uiterloo left us in the summer aged 17 and has played for Utrecht first team already.

In 2007 we signed Hasselbaink and he is still struggling to get regular games plus in 2007 we signed a Liesdek but paid him off with a year left of his contract.

Of this summer's signings from our youth , Schell, Lazic,Jongebloet and Supusepa are mainly subs and only Will plays regularly. In addition Aslan has not played through injury and a McIntosh has a long term injury as well.

Blind and Danilo Campo Sousa are exceptions and in fact are still eligible for our A1 team.

It seems the quality of our senior A1 youth team over the last couple of years has not been very high and we must hope that this years A1 team will bring forth some better talent as several are already under contract.
Castillion Sneijder etc.

One thing we have let go 2/3 kids who are probably better than some we have kept.(Lachman must clearly be better than the rest of our 2008 signings! )

Hopefully Frank de Boer, A1 coach will ensure we do not let any good kids go next summer. Zeegelaar has already been spotted by a Juventus scout
and scored yesterday within 10 mins of his debut.Hopefully he should start playing in the reserves from now and given a contract.

That was quick I just put on the headline site to see that Jongebloet will leave in January. He will not be the only one!!!

Unfortunately, I think that's been a problem throughout the club and has happened with the first team over the last few years as well. The incidents with Perez, Lindgren come to mind as well as others who came through our system, never played for the Ajax first team, but have since made an impact after going to other Eredivisie clubs. I really think the club needs to improve on rating talent at all levels.

Sno left our youth system in 2005 because he was not getting a contract and 3 years later we pay money for him.

That's another great example of what I was talking about. There seems to be a lot like Sno, though, that never came back. At least we haven't lost more money paying to bring some of them back...yet.

And why did he leave? Wasn't it for bad behavior?

Not sure about Sno probably explains why he left in 2005 at 18 with still a year in the youth left. Fword signed him then loaned him to NAC and he played in their first team in 2005/06. Had he stayed with us that season he might not even have got in the reserves!!

On the subject of problems I believe Liesdek was paid off early from his contract due to disciplinary problems. He signed for Huizen this season I believe.

A friendly game last night v Katwijk we won 2-0 with Sulejmani and Manucharyan the scorers.

Several first team squad players involved.

Gentenaar

Kappelhof, Delorge(46Apau), Shakison, Schilder,

Sno(70Schell), Sulejmani(60 Manucharyan) , Lazic,

Martina(46 Hasselbaink), Bodul, Leonardo( 60 Jongebloet)

Some of the regular reserves were rested to give fringe reserves a game

The 3 A1 youths are all defenders Kappelhof, regular right back with A1, Shakison shares left back position with Burnet( who is not only a year younger but has a contract) and Apau , who has only really come on this season as a sub. The 2 regular central defenders for the A1 are Van Rhijn, (with the Dutch u18's this week along with 6 other A1's) and Van der Meulen. Not sure why he was not in last nights squad .

At least Sulejmani had a run out and Gentenaar is now fit to be our 4th choice goalie!!

3-0 win over Jong De Graafschap

scorers de Jong, Sarpong and Bodul

Vonk

Silva, Alderweireld,Anita, Schilder,

Gabri, Blind, Aissati(65 Sousa Campos)

de Jong, Cvitanich( 65 Bodul), Sarpong

Good to see the 3 injured back.Very much a game to give our spare first teamers plus injured a run out. Not sure Gabri needed 90 mins !!

Another game on Thursday v Vitesse so maybe Cvitanich and Aissati will play some more.Perhaps Goossens and one or 2 regular reserves will also play!

Vitesse game tonight postponed until next Thursday. It means Cvitanich
and Aissati wont be getting any more playing time before the weekend.

May be this weekend is too soon for them but they may get on as subs!!!

2-0 win over Groningen for what in effect was a senior team. Leonardo and Goossens scored both late goals.

Vonk,

Silva, Alderweireld, Anita, Schilder,

Sno, Aissati(77SousaCampos), Sarpong,

Kennedy, Bodul(77Goossens), Leonardo.

Subs unused included Peristerides, who is only A2 goalie, and the A1 right back Kappelhof. Both being given the experience.

Poor old Martina did not even make the bench. Obviously with Ist teamers coming back from injury and with about 25 fit Ist teamers available most of the young reserves are not getting a look in at present. However there is a match on Thursday v Vitesse.

I still say 29 first teamers plus 19 reserves , appreciate many injuries, is too many. ( counting the 11 contracted 17 year olds in the A1 and A2 teams we have 59 contracted). We should be playing some of youth team after all Zeegelaar has played 90 mins for the first team but still only 20 mins of reserve team. There is talk of Castillion coming into the first team squad after 45 mins as a reserve.

Rant over.

Great to see Ismail Aissati get 77 minutes. Hope he'll be available for some of Friday's match. Any creativity added to Ajax-1 will be appreciated.

This is the league table now:

1. NEC: 13-26
2. Feyenoord: 13-25
3. PSV: 13-24
4. Ajax: 12-23
5. De Graafschap: 13-22
6. FC Twente: 12-20
7. AZ: 13-18
8. Vitesse: 12-16
9. Willem II: 12-15
10. Heerenveen: 13-15
11. Sparta Rotterdam: 13-13
12. Groningen: 13-12
13. Utrecht: 12-10
14. RKC Waalwijk: 12-4

If we win the postponed fixture against Vitesse, we'll go tops, ahead of Young NEC on goal-differential. Nice one, especially because the Ajax A1 are also top of the table at the moment (sharing the top slot with Heerenveen).

Didn't want to use up bandwidth in quoting the table standings. I think what we are seeing is a rejuvenation of the youth program at Ajax. This bodes well for the future with players who will make significant contributions moving forward. The key issue is how long we can keep them before transfering to Spain (which seems to be the preferred destination these days).

Only 3-3 v Vitesse. Bodul 2 goals Zeegelaar the other . Vitesse equalised in 86th min so we are now 3rd at the winter break.

Goossens was to play but got injured in the warm up.I see they decided not to give Sarpong or Aissati another run out this week .

Bizot,

Kappelhof(46 Zeegelaar), Alderweireld, Anita, Supusepa,

Claasen(72 Lazic). Sousa Campos, Delorge,

Martina, Bodul, Rommedahl.

Bizot is the A1 goalie and Kappelhof and Zeegelaar making 3 players without contracts. 2 more unused subs without contracts, Peristerides A2 goalie and Van der Meulen A1 centre back. Good to see we are giving some of the A1 players a taste of action and looking to see if they are going to be good enough for contracts. 6/7 regular members of our A1 team have contracts of which only Castillion has played for the reserves. It shows there is talent coming through at 17/18 year level.

The only game left before christmas is a cup match v Utrecht next Monday.

I will put this here. Goossens has had enough and wants to leave.I thought he should have had a chance and maybe a loan may still bring him a first team chance next season as his contract is to 2011.

Delorge, also an official reserve will also leave.Manucharyan will try and go although he still has a contract to 2011 and who would want someone who is never fit. In addition Jongebloet, in his 1st year and getting no playing time wants to be loaned out.

To add to these Hasselbaink and Lewis are never going to make it as they are half way through their 2nd years and getting little playing time. Ajax should let them go elseware and given the A1 youths a chance .

Usually Ajax have a clear out at the end of the season but they must be ruthless and clear out now. As I said before if 11 kids were worth giving 3 year contracts to last summer they should stick some of them into the reserves.

Reserves currently playing Utrecht in a cup game. At present after 50 mins we are 6-0 up and Bodul sent off after 38 mins. He did score 2 goals and you will not be surprised that it is a strong team out with Kennedy Sno and Sarpong the other scorers.

I will post the final score and team plus subs later and hope we score 10 !

Sadly no further goals so 6-0 v Utrecht. Bodul scored 2, Sno scored 2, Kennedy and Sarpong 1 each.Still not bad having played for over an hour with 10 men.

Padt,

Silva( 66 MacIntosh), Alderweireld, Anita, Schilder,

Sno, Sarpong, Sousa Campos( 66 Schell)

Martina, Bodul, Kennedy(77 Jongebloet)

Calvin MacIntosh is a non contract player. He was injured all last season and was signed as a non contract player to prove himself but after a couple of reserve games in August he has been injured ever since.

Goossens was an unused sub , no wonder he does not see a future at Ajax.

Alot of first team squad playing. Gentenaar and Rommedahl are both fit and along with Delorge and Manucharyan did not even get on the bench.
The point of mentioning these 4 is that the sooner Ajax get rid of them the better.

No more games until January. As I said last week Ajax need a clear out before the January season starts.

So, Ajax won their group in the first stage of the cup.

Final table:

1. Young Ajax 4-10
2. Young FC Volendam 4-8
3. Young AGOVV 4-7
4. Young FC Utrecht 4-3
5. Young FC Omniworld 4-0

As far as I know the draw for the next round is still to take place.

This was Young Ajax's last game of 2008. They will remain in training for one more week. Then they have two weeks off, followed by a training camp in January.

EDIT: the draw for the 'round of sixteen' is... Young F-word vs Young Ajax! Game to be played on Thursday 29 January.

He's definately Russian. Could well be of Georgian descent though. Seeing as Georgia was under Russian control for many years I assume that Russia has many people with Georgian names (and vica versa).
