If anybody wants to listen to NL v Wales at the weekend, BBC Radio Wales are broadcasting live commentary and you can listen by following the link from here

I think it might be on Sky TV as well but I'm not rich enough for that as well as Setanta...... :hupajax.gif:

There may be a more appropriate thread, but...
Looks like we will be missing 3 of our starting back 4 due to the Olympics during August (Urby for Oranje, and Vermaelen/Vertonghen for Belgium).
I'm not sure if they will get any rest before coming back, but the Olympic tournament will be taking place during the games against Cardiff City, Sunderland, the Amsterdam Tournament, and Real Murcia. I just hope none are injured or else we'll be in big trouble without purchasing another defender or two.

With Urby and Vermeer, Holland looked to have taken initiative against USA with a goal from former boy Babel, until they ended up trailing 2-1.
Only in injury time did Sibon of Heerenveen save Holland to give them a chance to continue in the Olympics.
Man, without De Ridder, Rigters, and Donk, this team sucks.

Both Holland and Belgium moved on today in the Olympics. Sibon scored again in the 2nd straight match.
Belgium will play Italy, while Hollands plays Argentina in the quarterfinals, so it's going to be a little longer before these players are back. Probably good we don't have a CL qualifier today.

Oranje lost over the weekend in extra time to Argentina, but Beligium won and made it to the semi-finals. So Urby and Vermeer are coming back, but Vermaelen and Vertonghen will be there a little longer, maybe.
Vermaelen picked up a red card in their match so he's suspended for the semifinal and final and Ajax want him back now according to van der Aat. It appears Vermaelen is planning to stay in China, though, until their eliminated. Hopefully this doesn't blow up too much, especially as there are midweek international friendlies anyway (which also looks like Huntelaar and Stekelenburg will be Oranje starters after the retirement of van Nistelrooy/van der Saar).
I'd really like to have them all back at this point, though, as it looks like Urby and the 2 Belgians will be in the starting XI and I think now is the time to really have a set lineup and they need to be working together. I really hope it doesn't take us a few weeks to get going in the Eredivisie this year because of all the changes, but I think it might happen. We really need to start strong, or hope PSV doesn't, as I think they're the favorites again.

Steks and KJH are in the Dutch squad for next months internationals.
There are 2 u21 internationals also and 7 Ajax lads are in the initial u21 squad. Vermeer , VdWeil plus 5 listed as midfielders Aissati, Anita, Sarpong Urby Emanuelson and de Jong. Sno is not in this squad and he is only 21!!!! With those midfielders plus Gabri and Lindgren and Schilder and Van der Heijden are also really midfielders I can see why everyone on this site is wondering why we need Sno!!!

I sort of agree on the Sno thing seeing as we need a true defender more and he will probably be competing with Gabri for time.
On a different note, I was quite impressed with Vermeer in what I saw of him in the Olympics. I don't think Stekelenburg will be here in a few seasons (maybe even next season) if he stay's Oranje's #1, so I hope Vermeer can get some time and more experience before that point.

Not a good week for the Dutch u21's 1-1 draw v Norway and 1-0 defeat to Switzerland means they are out of the Euro u21 championships.
Vermeer, Urby and Siem de Jong played from the start in both games and Van der Weil , having come on as a sub in the first played all the second.
At least there were Ajax players in those games as the Dutch u19's beat Scotland 5-0 and lost 2-1 to England with no Ajax players. Blind and Castillion were picked originally but both dropped out injured.
Thus the squad of 20 plus about 10 others on standby contained no Ajax!!

Maybe that's why they lost!SPL schreef:At least there were Ajax players in those games as the Dutch u19's beat Scotland 5-0 and lost 2-1 to England with no Ajax players. Blind and Castillion were picked originally but both dropped out injured.

With only KJH left in the senior squad there is an U20 /reserve U21 ( refered to as the beloften team in Dutch)international next week and 4 Ajax are included. Van der Weil, Anita Sarpong and de Jong with Goossens as standby. We are well represented at this age but a 30 man U19 squad has only Daley Blind from Ajax.
Bad news from this U21 /promising team (beloften in dutch) Goossens went off after 5 mins with an ankle injury and Sarpong did not even play due to a neck injury. Anita came on as Goossens replacement and de Jong played 80 mins in a 0-0 draw with Ukraine U 21.
In the U19 game this week Daley Blind was the only Ajax player in a 4-1 win over Lithuania.
