I think the only way we will win this one is to score early and often. I think our defense is crap, and is doubly so with the injuries/suspensions for this game, so I think we're going to concede 1-2 goals.
I don't think it's going to be as easy as the last few years, and we're going to be in serious trouble if we don't score early; that will be momentum for more goals and a big win. If Twente score first, it's over; we're not digging ourselves out of that hole.
I can be done, I just hope the right team shows up to play the game.

Bad, bad feeling about this one...
Koster says "1-0 is enough"... yeah right, that's a fact, but are we going to keep a clean sheet? We all know the answer to that one - and it's a big fat no.
If Twente score just once, we'll need two goals for extra time and three for the win. Which means, in practice: we're pretty much fucked if Twente score, because so far we only managed four goals against them in 270 minutes of football this season.
Statistic fact: the chance of Ajax conceding either two or three goals in a home game is nearly twice as big as the chance of Ajax keeping a clean sheet in a home game (clean sheet 4 times, against 7 home matches in which we let in two goals or more).

I have the same sort of bad feeling. Those stats confirmed what I had suspected, although are more troubling. I've seen the way we play at home in games like this, and if the opposition scores, everyone (fans included) seems out of it and can't get back into the game.Kowalczyk schreef: Statistic fact: the chance of Ajax conceding either two or three goals in a home game is nearly twice as big as the chance of Ajax keeping a clean sheet in a home game (clean sheet 4 times, against 7 home matches in which we let in two goals or more).

I'd like to see Slijngard play. I think we would have done just as well, if not even better, had we used more of the reserves in defense this season considering Silva was the only effective purchase.
Van der Heijden has played central defence regularly for the reserves this season so I would have thought he may have been used in recent games ,at least as a sub.
I would pick Slijngard on Sunday as he is regular left back and has being playing regularly. Colin Kuffour and Ogararu have had no playing time in the last 4 weeks.
Not for this thread but with only 2 fit regular defenders Colin is still unlikely to play!! Keeping him is one of the biggest mysteries.

The only mystery here would be why Van Basten wanted to extend his contract, and I tend to think it's only to have a cheap sub. As far the rest, it's not a secret that Colin and Koster doesn't get along very well...SPL schreef:Keeping him is one of the biggest mysteries.

I sill think it was a MvB "making his mark" scenario. He can't really lose here - if Colin does well then MvB will be seen as the visionary coach and if not then no one will have expected anything else and MvB can say that he wanted to fully evaluate the player etc.......but call me too cynical if you like.Cedric_AeF schreef:The only mystery here would be why Van Basten wanted to extend his contract, and I tend to think it's only to have a cheap sub. It makes you think! If we'd have played at this tempo earlier in the season...would we be here now?
I think not! We'd still have hangovers from celebrating the Championship!!!

Yep. I think we (Suarez in particular) are guilty of fart arsing around a bit too much on the wings but we seem to be stringing together some nice passes.SydAjax schreef:They are being really physical w/KJH and Suarez...lets hope they are a bit 'too' physical in the 2nd half and get a red or give up a penalty. Love watching Silva play, Gabri and Davids are playing their hearts out. Somethings gotta give here....
We can do it!
