Who would have thought that! As a keeper he collapsed a few times as a result of a nervous brakedown, but as a trainer he seemes to do allright.bryan schreef:Stanley Menzo football genius.
Volendam is a equivelant of Ajax (but then very small). They always want to play attacking football and they have a lot of youngsters in their squad. Most of the time the come from their own village Volendam, which is pretty unique.
I would love to see Volendam back to the Eredivisie, but to be honest: they are not ready for it. Too little financial abilities.

It didn't take very long for troubled times in Ruud Gullit's MLS career.

I watched some of the Galaxy's last match and I have to say that they looked pretty good. Perhaps still not in mid-season form, but they showed flashes of very entertaining soccer. Beckham played quite well and looked in sync with Landon Donovan (who, judging by talent alone, could play in any league in Europe).Manneken Pis schreef:DanK schreef: As an analyst Ruud knows his stuff. I think his record speaks for itself .......
I'm kind of neutral about Gullit and Beckham, but I want to see them do well in LA.

Ruud Gullit is an average coach who can give the squad short-term stimuli. His trackrecord is quite sloppy but people are really too harsh on him. Newcastle? Graveyard for coaches. Feyenoord? Erwin Koeman and Bert van Marwijk are perhaps even worse. Bert in the Warwijk can count on more quality, as regards to the players available. No, Gullit is of course not a great coach, but he is not that rubbish either.

Yes and no.Van basten schreef:fiorentina kicked off psv from uefa cup. sweet
yes as PSV lost
no as its better for Dutch football if they would have continued
I've said this before.
1. I will always support Ajax over anything else
2. I will support any Dutch team in Europe as success or failure here directly impacts Ajax.
If it wasn't for PSV these last few years, Holland would no longer have 2 teams in the Champions League.

Fiorentina played to score goals, which is what football is all about.
PSV tried to squeeze a scoreless draw out of the game: the very thing that anyone who loves the game should condemn without reserve.
So it's a good thing that Fiorentina kicked PSV's ass out of the cup. Some things are more important than petty national interests.

Your point is of course completely valid.666 schreef:So it's a good thing that Fiorentina kicked PSV's ass out of the cup. Some things are more important than petty national interests.
I still cling to my petty national interests though in a world where medium sized countries football teams like Holland are being squeezed out, not by more attacking football but by mega clubs in large (TV audience) countries and a weak UEFA that won't stand up to them.

It's about time UEFA got there act together. The "Champions" League is a f*^king joke.
3 out of the 4 semi finalists are champions of what? Having a lot of money? While the CL can be entertaining, I am sick of seeing Liverpool - Chelsea for what seems like the 117th time already...yawn.
All the CL is doing is making the richer clubs richer, and the gap is getting wider. Either allow just the champion compete, or allow 4 clubs from every country start in qualifying.
Sorry off topic & thanks for listening

While I generally lean towards the view that other Eredivisie teams doing well in Europe is good for Ajax, I think there is a more important issue at hand. Mainly that Ajax does well in Europe, which hasn't been the case over the last few years. This benefits the club and its supporters, and in turn the other Eredivisie clubs, but none more than Ajax.
PSV really has been the only club to do anything significant, and as others have said, the more clubs do well, the better off the Eredivisie is as a whole, especially in terms of money, attracting players/fans, level of competition, and hopefully quality of games.
