Would you not want Dwayne De Rosario playing for Ajax? I'd love to see him play for the red and white. I don't think he would cost too much money for his caliber either. Look at the Kakerlaken, they have Jonathan De Guzman from my beloved Toronto.

Ajax are going to be looking in N. America wether you like it or not. There is Ajax Oralando, the first step in their N. American plan.

Totally agree with the scouting, we need to look farther afield and develop our own talent. Africa seems to be somewhere we should be scouting better. A lot of their players go to the French League. Look at how Wenger at Arsenal has found some real African gems for cheap. We do have Ajax Capetown but we need to expand our scouting there.

Also, France is not too far from The Netherlands and players from Belgium don't seem to work out too well for us. 8 Million Euros for Defour who has scored only about 7 goals this year in Belgium?! Give me a break!

Ummm, Ajax Orlando became Ajax America and then pretty much died... I believe Ajax America still exists as a women's soccer club or something, but Ajax Amsterdam pretty much left the building, so I'm afraid all of that has died a death.

Africa seems to be somewhere we should be scouting better.

Ummm, Ajax did scout in Africa a lot (Ajax Cape Town, but also Ashanti Goldfields from Ghana), but after a few years decided that it did not yield the desired results due to cultural differences. Too many of those boys didn't make it and some of them got in trouble, far away from home.

The club also wanted to return to their roots and become more 'Dutch' again.

So Ajax's scouting is actually focused on The Netherlands and western European countries. That's a conscious decision. But if they happen to stumble across a good American/Canadian/Peruvian/Namibian/Philippine player, they surely won't hesitate.

I just don't like it when someone says that Ajax shouldn't sign any Americans, because they're Americans. I mean, come on. Replace the word 'Americans' with the word Africans (or 'Jews', or Arabs) - and it will sound a bit... questionable. Now it only sounds daft. It's too silly to even take it as an insult, really.

Here we go again...i really dont know what to think of this, i mean yeah we could use a couple of players and i would not be mad if we could get Silva but to be honest, this is the second time this has happen this season and its sets a bad example...it sends a messege to every football player that if you want to move abroad you just have to refuse playing for the team, thats very unprofesional and could turn this into a domino effect for us.

I agree about it not exactly sending the best message for players. However if what is in the SportingLife article is true, I'm not sure Groningen is setting a very good precedent either. Take the following:

If that is true, it's kind of a shitty thing to do to a player. If the club is willing to let him go at a set price, it is a little dubious to not follow through on that just because the club doesn't like which club has taken an interest in their player. I understand Groningen's position of not wanting to lose a player to a rival, but I can understand why Silva wouldn't want to play for them anymore if he and Groningen agreed he could leave for 2m Euro, but they then go back on that if that is indeed the situation here.

According to the website of TV network RTL, delegations of Ajax and FC Groningen will meet today for talks about a transfer of Bruno Silva to the Amsterdam club. It's 4:00PM Dutch time, so they're probably talking right now.

Martin van Geel will be tonight's guest in FC Godenzonen on AT5. Let's wait and see what he's got to say. Who knows he'll give AT5 the scoop.

I do remeber Silva scoring against ajax in the play off final in 2005, I recall him being somewhat slow but with good positioning and crosses....kind of like Grygera was at the right back position. I dont think this means Ogararu out..it just means that they will have to fight for the position harder...thats a good thing.

yeah it went fast, but in the short time they did produce a couple of interesting prospects, central midfielder dax mccarty and defender nathan sturgis, both MLS pros who played for the US at the U20 world cup last summer

This is official according to Hans Nijland (Groningen). He states on their website that Ajax paid 3.750.000 euro.
