I wouldn't laugh too much. By your analogy that's Brown 14 France 9 and I wouldn't rate Gordon as a hell of a lot better (or has Sarkozy been particularly flag-waving - I haven't seen).

To say nothing of the fact that Sarkozy beat NZ, led by Helen Clark, who is a pretty big lefty.

Well at the risk of being controversial and political (the second one is a bit of a taboo on this forum I know), I'd agree that Helen Clark pursues a broadly left wing agenda but I'd hardly call a pretty big lefty.

Perhaps I missed something (or perhaps it depends on your starting position :hypocrite.gif: ).

I don't follow Rugby Union anyway. In England (not so much Scotland/Wales) it's definately a much posher pursuit than football....................

At least Sarkozy is authentic French, whereas Broon is pretendy English.

I wouldn't say so tbh, that's certainly not how the English media portray him. In politics he's obviously English (and Scottish/Welsh etc) PM but in real life he always at least seems keen to stay close to his roots.

At least I suppose Brown is a genuine sports fan - Raith Rovers, unlike Blair who 'supports' Newcastle and claimed to remember watching Jackie Milburn play, despite the No. 9 retiring 5 years before Blair was born.....

Fair point. In this example, my frame of reference is that I would consider Clark to the left of Brown and Sarkozy. That seems a fair statement, (and not straying too far into taboo discussion areas) no?

Aye and the same Maggie Broon who claimed his favourite ever goal was Fat Gazza's goal against Scotland at Euro 96 - never known a Scotsman in my life to claim that was his favourite goal ever.

Oh and while I am here too - rugby in Scotland is as much class ridden as it is down south - mostly played in public schools and the farming areas of the Borders, although maybe now watched by all but I would say the same as it is in England.
O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

lol, oh yeah - I'd forgotton about that - damn silly thing to say. How to alienate yopur own part of the UK (Scotland) and make yourself look an insincere prat to the rest of it.

Re the Scottish Rugby, that's what a guy at work keeps telling me when I say I don't watch it - seems about right to me though, thinking of the Scots RL club teams I've heard of.

you should have seen him jumping up during the NZ game;

besides the French coach is about to join the gouvernment;

anyways, as I said before, the right wing brings bad luck, even with rugby :smallgrin.gif:

Which is why I bring up the example of New Zealand, led by someone who is clearly to the left of Sarkozy, losing to... France.

If I were a kiwi, I'd question the absolute inability of the new zealanders to make their way through the french barbed wire defence, I'd say that Dan Carter's injury surely affected his production, but the referee??

Come on, you know better....
Ah yes, like noone here on these boards has ever had a go at the ref after an Ajax game. I will point out that I said NZ choked, and did not actually outright blame the ref.

As to Helen Clark, like someone said, broadly left-wing, but politics in NZ have yet to become radical. The two main parties are still very close to the centre.

That's a bit of a myth .................................... nowadays. :icon_biggrin.gif:

Just a couple of points:

In the last few years the presence of state educated players in the Scotland squad ( eg; Euan Murray, Scott Murray, Ally Hogg, Jason White, Nikki Walker and Ally Kellock) has increased dramatically.

I'd bet my life that most people ( players, officials and supporters) involved at clubs such as Gloucester, Bath, Bristol and Leicester are from working class stock.

ps: Great result against Ukraine .... here's for more of the same in Tbilisi.

This is brilliant.

For some reason they named this little video 'Worst Goals Ever'. Weird title, because they're not goals at all... (except for the last one, which is why it's the most hilarious one of 'em all).

Dutchman to get bravery award
http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/ ... d=rss_news

A bit of a follow-up to the shootings here in Melbourne in June of this year.

The heroic efforts of a Dutch backpacker who nearly died during a triple shooting in Melbourne's CBD have earned him a prestigious international bravery award...

Nice one!
