as usual, you awkwardly stick stekelenburg in the gripe, and for what exactly?
seriously, please enlighten us all as to how maarten had thing one to do with this 2-leg loss

Unbelievable, we're out again at the first hurdle. It's more obvious now than ever that HTC has to go. We should have won the league on the last day, saving us the ignominy of being knocked out by Eurotrash. The problem that day? We couldn't score enough. Same as what's just happened. We can't score when it counts!
For a team who has traditions steeped in expansive, domineering, attacking football, we have shown none of that under HTC. How can the board simply sit around and take it anymore. I agree with some of the comments. IF a manager asks for players like Rommendahl, Colin, Luque and Delorge, expecting these to put Ajax back into the European scene, he's obviously overly selling his own abilities (remembering that HTC doesn't have a good tactical record). Suarez is quite possibly the only signing Ajax have made in the close season who is worthy of the Ajax shirt!
I figure its time for the board to say enough is enough, we've been f**ked around by this numnut who's been riding on his Barca connections long enough. It's time to perhaps bend over and admit their mistakes to LvG or perhaps CoA and bring something back to this once great club.
Admit it folks, as of tonight, we're the laughing stocks of Europe. The once great team which showed off our remarkable brand of total football featuring greats such as Cruijff, VanBasten, Bergkamp and Litmanen are NO more. It's a sad fall from grace and we really have no one else to blame except the board.
My message to them? Go on, do the honorable thing:

That would be the UEFA. Think about it. Ajax is the only legendary club in Europe that plays in a small competition. All the others, -Real, Bayern, AC Milan, Liverpool, etc- play in the big competitions. The UEFA has favored the big competitions in two ways.philippe schreef:SHAME on those who made Ajax what we now are in Europe : a bloody second division club !
The first is multiple tickets to the CL, which was formerly only for national champions. This means that more teams from those big competitions get to play on the highest stage, and earn profits accordingly. As a result, there are more teams in those competitions that can buy up our best players. This is a typical scenario for the rich getting richer at the cost of the poorer teams (in the smaller leagues).
The second is the lack of a salary cap. Much of the problem outlined above could be solved with a salary cap. That is the equalizer that a club like Ajax needs. It would allow us to keep our players longer, and so develop a team that can play our type of soccer. Why is there no salary cap? Because the UEFA is bought and paid for by donations from the rich clubs? Wouldn't surprise me. That's the way of politics. Not a single team in the big competitions would favor a salary cap. And the clubs in the small competitions lack the voice or credibility to make a stance for it. All, except one.
There is one club in Europe that has been hurt the most by the shortsighted, one-sided policies of the UEFA. One club that previously could not only compete with the best, but outplay them as well. A club that, god damnit, has won the CL/EC1 four times, and now has to satisfy itself with leftovers. And so I really only have one thing to say:
FUCK THE UEFA!!!! LONG LIVE AJAX!!!!

I have to agree with a lot of that, especially the part about our 'physicaly underwhelming' players. Last night Vermaelen just allowed himself to be rolled over, he was forced out of the game by stronger forwards. Stam should have been a commander at the back but to me he just looked like a thug who is way off the pace. Heitinga was wasted in midfield, he did nothing going forward and more often than not he was standing in the centre circle watching the ball go past him.bryan schreef: - Our scouting has been shitty four about five years now. Groningen found Suarez. Heerenveen found Huntelaar. Twente found Kennedy.
- We sell before we buy and when we sell we don't know who to buy.
- Our youth system keeps producing the same highly skilled and physically underwhelming players. A football team also needs big strong centre backs, dominating midfielders and commanding goalkeepers. We all know that Maduro isn't good enough to be a regular starter, but today the team was so depleted that even Maduro was missed. How did it come to this?
If Ten Cate hasn't indicated to Van Geel that we need proper defenders and a goalkeeper who can catch the round thingy flying through the air then, yes, we need a new manager. If he has and the club has failed to buy any, then, Houston, we have a major problem.
I got the feeling that HTC thinks he has done enough work in the transfer market this summer. Last night proved how wrong he is. It really wouldnt take all that much, just a couple of solid defenders and a midfield playmaker. But, and this is a crucial but, they must be players in their prime! Not kids who just want to be showcased for the English and Spanish teams, and not former players coming back as some kind of retirement plan. Ajax need a spine of quality players who will stick around long enough to build a team around them.
Absolutley devastating!!!
I am an ajax supporter from age 13, The CL final 1996 was the first ajax game i watched. And i must admit that from there on ajax only dissapointed me in the european stage. But this one is different. For the first time i am wonder if it all worth it, and i am sorry for being pessimistic.
I follow ajax every day on the internet although i am not from holland, my girlfriend is really angry with me because i am reading this forum every day and dedicate so much time to ajax. I must say that after this game i feel betrayed by the ajax team. It is not only about the results and the european prestige of the club, it is the way the ajax board and players dedicate themselves to the club. As for now it is seems they really dont. If last year is looked really bad, this year it looks like we are doomed. It is really hard to admit but we all must...AJAX are not a european powerhoese anymore, and they dont belong to the european top!!!
We even not the best club in holland. And this is really pissing me off because we should be as we have the tradition for that kind of succes . We cant continue buying mediocure players like delorge and collin and bellieve that this is the properway of the club.
In order to be the best you have to aim for that and that is exactly what ajax are not doing.
I mean common fielding a three man midfield line of gabri( diffencive midfielder), heitinga ( he is a diffender, absolutely not a playmayker) and delorge that not exactly a 'briliant' player. How on earh HTC wanted to create goals??? THIS IS ABSOLUTLEY AMATURE from ajax .

Ajax are run by greedy and lazy fatcats who think they've done their job once they made huge profits by selling good young players.
No real ambition for European competitions !
Appie, stay strong !

None of these bastards deserve their salary, nor do the people behind the screen. THIS WAS A DISGRACE. Obviously Ajax had no power to be a real match in Europe but that's not the point, the point is that traditionally Ajax is a club that SHOULD be in Europe nonetheless. This squad has been lazy, undeserving, and most of all, unreliable. I dont think I speak for myself when I say Ive lost most my faith in this current team. Please, play Jong Ajax against Slavia and they wouldve done a better job. I'm sick of following my team that cant even live up to its necessary expectations. Losing to tiny clubs? Missing out the league by one goal which couldnt be scored against a shitty club? Sparking the fan's imagination with shit players?
I've had enough, I'm gonna get myself high.

Another problem I see now. Which player would want to come to Amsterdam when they can't play CL football? This was always part of the appeal to join Ajax even though they were in a smaller league, but now? Whats the point?
I didn't see the game so can't comment on HTC game plan, but I am highly doubtful of his buying this season. It's dodgy to say the least.
Lets at least win the league this year. Please.

Let's have a great year in the UEFA cup. As good a place to start the climb to the top as any. Ajax won a couple of lesser European Cups in the late 1980's and early 90's, before crowning that period with a CL championship and another CL final. You don't just jump to the top. It goes in stages. At this point the UEFA tournament is more constructive for Ajax than the CL. Let's build something beautiful. From scratch.
