New Players for Ajax

Is it just me or is our squad too big...Now that we have Suarez and Luque on the left why not sell Mitea and Keep Manucharyan depending on how Luque performs. On the right we have Kennedy and Rommedahl..I know Leonardo is injured but when fit....can we please let him go... I am happy with the defense with the exception of Jurgen Colin...but that could change depending on how he performs. But now there are rumours that Ajax want to sign another midfielder. Another thing.. I have no idea why we signed Delorge...I saw him play a few times..and against Heerenveen he was useless

Why would you sell Leonardo? I've not seen that much of him (for Ajax) but he looks a really useful player and I think there's a lot more of him to come.Ayman schreef:I know Leonardo is injured but when fit....can we please let him go...
De Dominee mentioned Urzaiz as well. Tbh I'd never heard of him before we'd signed him but from what I've read about him he could be really useful, definately a squad player, and a sort of "supersub" (and unlike Perez last season he'll probably be ok/not underused in that role).
Neither of these players have cost a fortune in fees and I assume not in wages either....

Only three types of players are going to move to the Eredivisie.
1. Promising youngsters from footballing backwaters who see clubs like Ajax as a stepping-stone to higher things. (Chivu/Ibrahimovic/Mido)
2. Guys who have become side-tracked at their current clubs and are desperate to move to revive their flagging careers. (Luque/Kinkladze)
3. Ageing Dutch has-beens who want a couple of seasons at home, before they finally adjourn to the golf course. (Stam/Davids/Mckaay).

I'd like to add a fourth category, though... (or maybe it's 1B; it's a subtle difference)
4. Talented and much-wanted players from good football nations, who understand that (in the long run) it's a better idea to spend three seasons at a major Dutch side than to start their international career at an average English/Spanish side.
This is the category of players that Ajax should focus on: young players (but not teenagers) who are ready to make the move from their native country to a foreign club, but who are not yet good enough to move to Real Madrid or Liverpool. I'm talking about players who, for example, have a choice between Spurs, Middlesbrough, Mallorca, Palermo and Ajax. If they want cash, they'll choose Spurs or Middlesbrough. If they have genuine ambition and common sense they will choose Ajax (European football and a starting slot guaranteed, Champions League participation likely, plus the chance to actually add a title or a cup to your resumé).
The Dutch league is a very good idea for that type of player.

Yeah, but I still don't know what happened with him. I thought he was a bloody good player, captain at one point wasn't he then had one bad game and was gone, completely on a whim it seemed.Cedric_AeF schreef:Or Escudé....

Actually I don't think D'Alessandro is similar to Sneijder. I remeber watching him when he played for River Plate and the Argentinean national team. He is very skilled but you're right about his temper. He's kind of a whiny wonderboy, but he seems to have fade into obscurity. No more national caps in like three years for him.

Besides the fiery nature, he's like Wesley in that he is small, likes wander around and likes his free kicks/long shots.
I don't think he is as good, but he did play quite well for Pompey and Zaragoza the last two seasons. The lack of caps has much more to do with the Argentina depth at his positions (Aimar, Messi, Insua, Riquelme, Lucho, Maxi, etc.) than anything else, I'd say.... well that and his temper.
Personally, if we want to go grab a #10, I'd prefer Jovanovic from Standard Liege.

Totally agree with OPH.
I think we actually have more quality available upfront, and definitely more options. We have Suarez and Luque for Babel, Kennedy and Rommedahl for De Mul and Urzaiz and Luque as extra options behind KJH.
We lost Sneijder, but Luque and Kennedy can be used as a left-footed and right-footed number 10, respectively. And Anita, Sarpong and Donald are now also fully-fledged first teamers. You can't replace Sneijder one-on-one, so will have to do things differently, tactically. The Ajax midfield will change. The Sneijder role is no more and we don't need a player for a position that no longer exists.
Ajax are still looking for a central midfielder, but it won't be a Sneijder type.
I actually believe that the only line where we have become considerably weaker than last season is the defense: Grygera out, Colin in. On the other hand: I really like Van der Wiel.

Now this is when we differ...I think Ajax should get Orlando Engelaar on a short contract of 2 years and an option to extend it...he isnt great..but neither was Lindenburgh when we signed him....and we need a No. 10 for creativity..I know we got Suarez for it, although i feel he is more threatening on the left flank.
