I too will be happy when 1st sept arrives and KJH is still here.
Real have been linked with Adriano, Berbatov and Milito thus KJH is just one on a list.As for Guillitt saying Milan should buy him, so what.!
Milan will not fork out the best part of 40m euros on a player not eligible for CL.

We are struggling to find another attacking midfielder to replace Wes so trying to find a replacement quality goalscorer in a week will be near impossible.

As this a new player thread do I take it we are not looking for asecond midfielder to replace Davids???

for now all efforts seem to be focused on signing Albert Luque from Newcastle and formerly Deportivo La Coruna, where he really impressed.
I think, just like riera, he is more a left winger than a number 10, but I could be wrong and he reallly could fulfill the vacant spot in the midfield toghether with gabri (RM) and heitinga (CM).
For sure he's a good player that in england lost a little himself.

Despite the "Exclusive" on VI.nl and other postings , I'll believe a signing when I see it reported by someone like Ko , who doesn't leap at rumours du jour , or on Ajax.nl . I got my hopes up over Riera. Once bitten, twice shy.

IF ,BIG IF , we did actually sign Luque , perhaps he could play off KJH as a shadow ,with Suarez as the left wing , Kennedy in the center , and Gabri on the right.

With such a formation , Suarez could move inside , or Gabri , and free Kennedy to move to the right center channel or the right , Urby plays his normal LB position , and Rommedahl is speed off the bench. My way of agreeing with Ko's assessment of using the strengths and versatility of players you have without clearly designating a fixed # 11 , # 10 , etc..

He's the perfect fit for a 4-4-2.

Milan need him, after Inaghi and Ronaldo who are not gettting any younger, they have nothing. Problem is that they can't get rid of Gilardinio as no one in their right mind would pay the kind of money that they want for him, 24 mill. Only if they could sucker someone into that then they can buy Huntelaar. BTW, I was recently in Milan and went to the San Siro and by coincidence, almost everyone there was an Ajax fan! Their history Museum sucks compared to ours!

I saw one post in the reliable transfer rumours section about our offering more than Real Betis ; 2.2 vs. 1.5 for Betis. I saw one funny post , on AN , which used a translator to translate a spanish language piece and had Luque joining two old women of Spanish football , Gabri and Urzaiz , at Ajax.

like K. was saying in previous posts, it seems that we should change something tactically IF the luque deal should be confirmed. and it should, at least according to the quotes of the player himself.

According to reports in the Spanish media Albert Luque Martos is an Ajacied. An Ajax delegation went to Newcastle yesterday, for talks. Betis Sevilla were also after Luque, but according to Spanish newspaper ABC they offered him a salary of 1.5 million euros, whereas Ajax will pay him 2.2 million (!!).

Luque is 29 years old, he is a left footed midfielder or left winger and he played for Malaga, Real Mallorca, Deportivo La Coruña and Newcastle United.

We can safely assume that this is true, and that Ajax.nl will confirm later today.

It's been tough for Luque at Newcastle, he appears to be one of those guys who gets injured every time he cuts his toenails, so it's been hard for him to make an impression on new coach Sam Allardyce, or his predecessor Glen Roeder. When he did play it was mostly as a left-sided midfielder, with occasional run-outs as a striker. So I think Ajax are signing him primarily as a squad player, to bring some depth and options to the attack when the injury list grows (as it always seems to at Ajax.)

Pre-season Newcastle 'shop-windowed' him in a couple of friendlies, and he scored twice against Celtic and once against Juventus, though typicaly he picked up a knock against Juve.

In theory, yes, but as far as I know this was the last player Ajax were looking for (a left-footed, offensive midfielder/flank player).

This is a major buy, though. I've seen Luque in action a few times, and he looked class.

Seeking success is not such a terrible thing to do, I would say...

If Luque can bring us success, I wouldn't be unhappy, to be quite honest.
