Ajax star wowed by Wenger
Ajax starlet Ryan Babel has conceded it would be 'a dream' to play under Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are understood to be taking a keen interest in the Ajax player who is currently starring for Holland in the European Under 21 Championship.
Babel - who scored in the 2-1 win over Portugal on Wednesday - has now admitted he would leap at the chance to work with the Frenchman in North London.
"If I get the chance one day to train with Arsene Wenger it would be a dream," said Babel.
"From when I was young I supported Arsenal. I liked the style, the ambience, how they show themselves on the field - everything."
Babel was also linked with a move to Newcastle in January, whilst talk of Arsenal's interest was fuelled when the young forward was spotted in London visiting his good friend Robin van Persie at the turn of the year.
The 20-year-old admits he is keen to test himself in the demanding arena of the Premier League.
Babel added: "I think it's maybe the best league, it's a very high level and there is good football."

Yeah, that was in "The London Paper" (Murdoch's free-sheet) tonight as well. I'd personally be sad to see him go, a lot of potential and he's not being played in his best position half the time.Van basten schreef:Ajax star wowed by Wenger

If they offer enough EuroCents though I suppose he should go - the other side of what I've written is that he isn't exactly setting the world on fire or essential to the team at the moment.

i absolutely beg to differ, my friend
RB had a terrific second half to the season, with a couple of notable exceptions (i.e. @RKC)
many days, he was the piston revving the attack forward

I'm probably thinking from a more historical perspective and I do think he's an excellent player. Do we think he'll go though??

Babel is a rare, RARE talent. Few of us(or nobody) will get to live to see a second one like him. In the next 5-6 years he will become one of the stars in Europe along with Kaka and C. Ronaldo. It would be another act of outrageous stupidity and foolishness to sell such a talent at such a young age right now. Fortunately, the new contract he signed several months ago shows he will stay at least another two or three seasons.

Well, now we have a proper debate :hupajax.gif: . I agree that he is/has been overhyped but he's hardly alone in that..."utter shite" is a wee bit strong though, I've seen some class moves from this guy (but also some games where he's just not been involved and frankly doesn't look interested....WP_LeGeNd schreef:I think he is utter shite and I'd love to see him sold while he is still a hype...

I must say I'm not really convinced by Babel but I'm also afraid to see him leave and finally show his full potential... Because he has definitely some... Once he will know how to score simple goals, he will already be a lot better. He again missed a great oppotunity today, and what about the one against Israel !

a) got a lot of potential,
b) played out of position, and
c) still VERY YOUNG.
If he goes to play for someone like Wenger I think he could well blossom.

or disapear, he is still too green to play in the premiership, if he stays a couple of years and then goes to ARSENAL THEN he can blossom. ARSENAL IS A GREAT TEAM FOR YOUNGSTERS BUT HE WOULD HAVE MORE COMPETITIÓN THAN HE CAN HANDLE RIGHT NOW.Manneken Pis schreef:I think he's;bluedaddy19 schreef:WP_LeGeNd schreef:wow How different views of a player can people have.. Loads of new signings (and re-signings) for Ajax, as documented by Ko on AUSA:

One question about Poepon - how's that pronounced? Like the mustard? Or like what that effing pidgeon did to me in Florence? Or what an Englishman does to a bike for a quick ride? Or...

I don't know if our European colleagues have been following the Concacaf Gold Cup (and I don't know why they would) but the U.S. has a potential gem of a midfielder named Benny Feilhaber. He is (I think) 19 years old and plays at Hamburg. However, he can't really crack the first team and may get loaned or sold.
I think he would make an excellent understudy for Sneijder, and would fit in well at Ajax. He probably would be fairly inexpensive. He needs some seasoning, but I could see him (assuming Sneijder stays another year) backing Sneijder up and then starting. He has a lot of potential.
For your reference, I direct you here. Enjoy the Mexican commentary. A "golazo" is an extraordinarily brilliant goal.
