GREAT GAME FROM DAVIDS. MAN OF THE MATCH IMO.
TOO AGGRESSIVE GAME FROM AJAX THOUGH NICE FOOTBALL
IN THE SECOND HALF BUT VERY WEAK AFTER BEING A MAN DOWN
AND IT SHOULDNT HAPPEN TO A CLUB LIKE AJAX
BUT WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS THE 17TH CUP WINNING

Later this week, mate. Later this week. That's a promise. April 1992 and May 1992 on one day. And June 1992 will be published on time.
Oh, isn't it great to have impatient fans... ;)

Not entirely, no. The two ends for the supporters were jam-packed, but the second tier, long side, was half-empty, possibly as a safety measure. Even now, there were a few fights in 'neutral' sections...philippe schreef:just one thing : your report mentions an attendance of 35.000

Well lucky or not this is a result we deserve after what happened in the league when Steks was almost decapitated by de Zeuw, and they stole two (Eredivisie winning) points.Kowalczyk schreef:Just returned home after a long, long 'cup final day'... but what a final it was. This was one hell of an exciting game. Bloody great atmosphere at De Kuip, Ajax supporters waving thousands of white T-shirts over their heads and screaming their players to the finish line... Boody wonderful.
A quick breakdown (will write the match report tomorrow)...
The first half was fast and exciting, but not very good. High speed, loads of duels, but not too much accuracy. AZ were the better side over all. Dembélé gave them an early lead. Vermaelen didn't look good, to say the least. I think Ajax were really, really poor in the first half.
After the break, Ajax recovered quite well and they did it very quickly: Huntelaar equalized and I think the second half was pretty much for Ajax, especially the phase between the 60th and 85th minutes. I thought Ajax's second goal was in the air, but then Gabri couldn't control himself and was sent off.
With then men into extra time... We have to be honest here: we were amazingly lucky in extra time, especially in the second 15 minutes. AZ had four or five massive chances, Arveladze hit the cross-bar... Ajax were totally knackered and were merely trying to remain upright until the final whistle - and the penno shoot-out.
The shoot-out: I was surprised that Davids and Stam were not picked for the first five. Vermaelen and De Mul were. I had a very bad feeling when they came forward (I was 100% convinced that De Mul was gonna miss), but it must be said: they were perfect. All penalties were perfect, really: the two goalkeepers never had a chance, until Donk missed the only penalty of the day (good save from Steks) - and Davids wrapped it up for Ajax.
Fucking hell, this was exciting. Nice one.

Kowalczyk schreef:By the way, folks: I think the celebration at Museumplein is gonna be an embarrassment. It's been warm and sunny for weeks here in Holland, really as if summer had started early, but now it's pissing down and quite chilly. Also, it's 'only' the cup and Museumplein is huge. I think the square will look painfully empty...
