Headline today states talks to be held for new contracts for Heitinga Babel
Vermeer Vertonghen and Manuchayran all contracts currently to 2008.

Pleased that we are looking to renew contracts over 18 months before they run out.About time . If any say no then they can be sold in the summer!
The only 3 younger first team players whose contracts run out in 2008 and not mentined are De Mul Rosales and Maduro.

I think Rosales will leave in the summer and the jury is still out on De Mul but
what about Maduro!! He was put into the Dutch team before he was ready and is not picked for every game this season. Not sure whether HTC rates him or not!! If he does not will we unload him at seasons end????

Would welcome comments on Maduro . What do you guys think of him at present??

Maduro is having a very very hard time. Made his debut under the reign of Koeman during a lost match in France against Auxerre. All of a sudden he was the new star and the media jumped on him. He played for 2 years without any vacation, playing for Ajax 1, Jong Ajax, Jong Oranje and Oranje. Ten Cate says that Maduro is still not fit enough, but I have my doubts personally. This season Maduro had a lot of rest, played only a few games. But when he plays it looks like he left the handbrake on, its going very slowly. His movements, his passing.. everything look slow. Maduro's contract will be renewed, waiting/hoping for that final breakthrough.

Heitnga's contract will not be a problem I guess.. who else wants to contract him? ;)

It's not gonna happen with Maduro.

He's alright, but not great. De Jong material. If we can sell him, I'd say let's do it.

Ajax are currently in talks with three players: Ryan Babel, Edgar Manucharyan and Jan Vertonghen. The club want to renew their contracts. They have offered Babel a new deal until 2011.

Good news about JH . The only 2 main players whose contracts are currently 2008 and need sorting are Maduro and De Mul. ( I expect De Mul will renew but sadly I think Maduro will move on . He seems to have got in arut here and possibly needs a new club.)

I will put this here rather than new players but last week we gave full contracts to 2 more A1 players.

Toby Alderweireld ,a Belgium defender born March 1989, to June 2010.

He is the last of our link with GBA our former Belgium partner.


Vito Wormgoor , Dutch born Nov 1988 , defender to June 2009.

I find Heitinga the most maddening player of the lot. He's got skill and can play very well and then.... some horrible brain fart occurs and Ajax are looking at a 1-0 deficit after 35 minutes of dominance.

I think he has the skills to be an above average defender, but he needs to get over these mental lapses.

PSV is said to be interested in Maduro btw (when he'll be out of contract).

There's also Manucharyan with a contract untill 2008. I think you didn't considered him as a main player and you may be right, but he is a strange case... He doesn't play much with Ajax 1 again this season, but at least, he is not anymore injured every game. Maybe next season will be the good one...

Ajax wont let Maduro run his contract down. I imagine if he is not offered an extension Ajax will sell this summer.

I did not include Manucharyan as a main player even though he is a first team squad player. I did read they are are in talks with him.

Players like Stam Davids and Lindenbergh also have contracts to 2008 but obviously in view of their ages Ajax will not be extending their contracts this season.

John Goossens 18 year old reserve left winger has extended to 2011.

Another young player Tayeb has had his contract extended to 2008. He is a forward.

PS I will just add that I am pleased we have given Daley Blind a contract already as Barcelona have listed him as one of 3 young players they liked from the recent U 17 Internationals.

Youngsters at such tournements must know that they are being watched by the big clubs but Daley signed for Ajax just before this tournement.

Ajax are gradually working through the 2008 contracted players and extending.

The only main players to be decided are Maduro, De Mul plus Sarpong and Anita.
Ajax has not made a decision on Maduro yet and De Mul has indicated he wants to move but hopefully Anita and Sarpong, both only 18, will sign extensions soon as they are 2 of our most promising youngsters.
