Edgar Davids
The transfer has not been announced on Ajax.nl yet, but this will almost certainly happen today. The press reports were a bit premature: almost every new source in Holland announced that it was a done deal, but it wasn't. Ajax and Spurs were still talking yesterday afternoon. Details, but it is not 100% certain yet that Ajax will not have to pay a transfer fee for Davids.
Fact is that he underwent his medical at the Amsterdam V.U. Hospital, yesterday between 5.00 and 7.15 PM CET - and that everything is okay. The expectation is that Ajax will officially confirm the transfer today. Davids might even join the team for training this afternoon.

Davids returns to Ajax
Amsterdam, 30 jan 2007
Ajax have reached agreement with Tottenham Hotspur about the immediate transfer of Edgar Davids. The 33–year old midfielder has signed a contract with Ajax through 30 June 2008.
After playing more than ten years abroad, Davids returns to the club for which he made his debut on 8 September 1991 against RKC Waalwijk. The left-footed midfielder played 106 league matches, 6 Cup matches and 33 European matches for Ajax. He scored 33 goals in those 149 matches.
Edgar Davids won three league titles with Ajax and one national Cup. He also captured three Dutch Super Cups, one European Super Cup, the UEFA Cup, the Champions League and the World Cup for club teams with the Amsterdam side.
Davids left Ajax in May of 1996 and played for AC Milan (1 season), Juventus (6 seasons), FC Barcelona (1 season), Internazionale (1 season) and Tottenham Hotspur (1.5 seasons).
The midfielder will be presened to the media on Tuesday at 14.30 hours, in the presence of coach Henk ten Cate and technical director Martin van Geel.

this is a good move for davids.
its a good way to wind down his career.
and a good throwback to the early to mid 90s,
the ajax sides im most familiar with.
i dont know how much of a presence he will be.
i dont think he did much of anything at tottenham,
though that could have been down to tottenhams style of play
and coaching decisions.
but lets get him in the line up and see what he can do!

If nothing else, he might pass to the younger players a sense of pride in the red and white, and what it means to fight for your club.foxflyer5 schreef:this is a good move for davids.

I think he will be pretty useful.

I don't know if he was the difference (that would be Sneijder, imo) but he certainly helped out quite a bit. Perhaps he was the difference in an unseen way, i.e. the reason we didn't give up a second goal.ZoefdeHaas schreef:He will probably be the key against Feyenoord. Without Stam, we really need a "bull" to run back and forth and help out in defense.
mark my words, Davids will be the difference tonight.

Agree with that. I thought Gabri played quite well today. I think we can attribute at least part of the fact that Ajax didn't collapse after Charisteas scored to Edgar's presence.ZoefdeHaas schreef:Obviously Sneijder was MoM, but I think you saw the difference today. Davids "showed" how to play the ball and pass and his spontaneous surges were the spark Ajax needed. His presence even got more out of Gabri.

He has been suspended for one match. In the league, that is. Which means he will be available for Wednesday's cup game at Willem II, but suspended for Sunday's Eredivisie home game against Heerenveen.
It was not a real 'case' in front of the disciplinary committee of the KNVB: that only happens with red cards. A 'double yellow' automatically stands for a suspension of one match. It is impossible to appeal against it, so this is it.
