That's our bigest problem- we buy players with intencity to sell them. besides, i don't think, that davids would cost us a lot. i think he could be very useful for the team and great leader on the pitch for couple yearsBertje schreef:Not another player we won't be able to sell. I'd rather get some younger players.
Ofcourse we don't buy with the intention of selling. That's utter crap. We buy with the intention of making the team better. When the team is good, you will get good results and when the results are good you will get a lot of money of you do have to sell. You will need that money to get a new player.
Nog steeds eens met Boem.

Hmm, I think we also have at least half an eye on selling them. For instance Huntelaar, there's nothing that says you can't buy a young player, improve the team, and then sell him on and buy someone else.Bertje schreef:Ofcourse we don't buy with the intention of selling. .
It seems an accepted fact on this forum and elsewhere that Huntelaar/Babel/Sneijder etc will move on eventually having improvethe team in the meantime (before anyone reminds me I know two of those three weren't signings as such but you get the point)
Forza Haarlem. HFC Gone but not forgotten!
Players are kept under contract so that they can't leave on a free. That's the reality of football in the 21st century.
But whatever approach you take, does it really make a difference in how you scout? Looking for good players and players that you can make a profit on is essentially the same thing.

The bad thing is: Spurs know that every paper and website in Holland has now announced it, so there's no way back for Ajax. Ajax would look like a bunch of twats if the whole thing falls through. Spurs know that - so they will probably play it tough and ask for a high fee. Which would be ridiculous for a thirty-something with only five months left on his contract. I have a feeling that we're going to pay too much for this one.
Spurs want him off the payrole, so we should be able to get him for free. But because of the media pressure we're not in a good position, negotiation-wise.

Just glad to see the potential for bite and toughness in the midfield. AT LAST. Not that Gabri doesn't have any d skill, but his play seems to go from inconsistent to non-existent; if I ready supporter commentary accurately. The Davids move could really make Olaf Lindenbergh odd man out. His time might truly have been measured in hours not days . Except that our central D took two hits today.

Davids on free transfer to Ajax
AMSTERDAM, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Midfielder Edgar Davids is to join Ajax Amsterdam as a free agent, the Dutch press agency ANP reported on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur have given the former Dutch international a free transfer back to the club where he started his professional career in 1991, the agency said.
Davids and Ajax reportedly agreed an 18-month deal on Friday and if the 33-year-old passes a medical examination he is set to make his debut next weekend against arch-rivals Feyenoord.
Davids helped Ajax win three league titles from 1994-96 plus the UEFA Cup in 1992 and the Champions League in 1995.
A year later he joined AC Milan before switching to Juventus where he won three titles in 1998, 2002 and 2003, Barcelona and Inter Milan before moving to Spurs in 2005.
He has represented the Netherlands at four major finals and has played in four Champions League finals

Under the Uefa rules if you start in the line up or come off the bench and play then you are inelegible to play in the same competition for another club in that season, but if you are on the bench its quiet a different matter.
He was on the bench for one of the uefa cup games for tottenham, therefore he is elegible to play for Ajax against Werder Bremen.the only bad thing is that he won't help us against werder, because he already played for spurs in uefa cup this season
