According to Gazeta Wyborcza Leo Beenhakker will be new coach of Poland (it is not official news, but the newspaper says that they are sure in 90% for that).

And now it became official news :yes: . Leo Beenhakker signed a contract with polish FA. He will work here 15 months, but the contract could be extend when Poland qualify to Euro Championship.

Frans Hoek, former coach of goalkeepers in Ajax and Barcelona will help Leo Beenhakker in Poland. Hoek will join coaching squad as a consultant, which role is to inform Beenhakker about goalkeepers' form and to help our GK coach with prepairing them to the games. It can change, so actually he could be our first GK coach.

AT5 Teletext reports that Danny Blind was involved in a serious car crash on Wednesday evening, around 11:45 PM Dutch time.

The accident happened near the Stramanweg in Amsterdam South-East, near the Amsterdam ArenA. Blind was speeding and crashed into a car that had broken down and was standing still. He hit the vehicle at full speed. Mind you: the car was standing on the side of the road and its lights were working. The driver, a 48 year-old woman, was injured and had to be set free from the wreck by the fire brigade. She was brought to hospital for treatment. A 2 year-old child (!) in the backseat remained unharmed - thank God.

The police arrived very soon and it turned out that Danny Blind was under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol level was three times as high as the maximum allowed permilage. His driver's license was taken from him immediately and quite obviously, he will be prosecuted for drunk driving.

Painful, this. Thank God no-one died. What an idiot. When will our 'heroes' from the world of football finally realize that they're role models for generations of young boys? Show responsibility and behave yourselves, dammit.

Bloody hell, that's really bad. In Britain he'd probably end up in prison for an accident that bad. What will he get in Holland? Totally agree with you re. the "role model" thing. It's so stupid and dangerous to go drink driving and at 3x the limit he can hardly claim that he didn't know he would be over the limit to drive :nooo:

Phillipe, I've never really had an online disagreement with you (solidarity between Yannis fans?) but that's a massive broad, contentious (and fairly offensive to those of us who are responsible adults) statement there.

There's a damn huge difference between having one (or 3) too many and falling over and hurting yourself and getting in a car and driving it. Do you delight in winding people up or are you serious?

To misquote Marx, "Drink is the opium of the masses" - what have you got against that. Watching Ajax these days is enough to drive you to drink and I don't begrudge anyone a drink - it's the driving that's the problem.

Perhaps this is why I don't (and can't) drive?

And btw on a different subject I think (and hope) that I'm as anti rascist as they come - I'm just trying not to over-react to that as well.

I don't have any problem at all with Blind getting drunk. I couldn't care less, really. That, by itself, is a non-issue and doesn't impact me. What I do care about is him getting behind the wheel and endangering other people. That does potentially impact me.

There is a huge difference between the two.

The booze isn't the issue here. The issue is his lack of responsibility and disregard for others. A responsible person would stumble home on foot, call a taxi, get a ride from a friend, etc.

Phillippe, I have looked at myself many, many times and I have never had to think more than once about driving after a drink. Never. It has nothing to do with the drinking. It has everything to do about making a decision before stepping into a car. (actually, it has to do with decisions well before then. If I go out, do I drink? If so, how do I get home? etc). There is no excuse for doing this (unless there was a life or death requirement to get into his car while under the influence). As I stated earlier, he his lucky he didn't kill anyone. Bloody lucky.

You can forgive someone for having an accident (thats why the call them accidents!), but by drinking and driving, he has removed his judement and reaction time, therefore increasing the chance of this happening.

Did Blind mean to crash? I am positive he didn't. I am sure he wouldn't deliberately hurt someone in this way. I am sure he is also sorry for what he did, however the fact remains he was 3 (I say again) 3 times over the limit. He had plenty of time to make a decision not to drive.

Many years ago I lost a friend to a drink driver, so maybe I am reacting to this more so than normal, but unless it is proven his drink was spiked or aliens came down and injected him with some weird form of alcoholic plasma, I cannot forgive him for this.

by the way, those who like to drink as a hobby should show compassion towards those who have a problem with alcohol (i.e. most likely are addicted), that's the least one could expect

Philippe - I'm absolutely proof positive that we all do - I've re-read all the posts and can't see what has given you another impression! There's no shame in being drunk (it's the driving that's the problem) whereas racism in always reprehensible and shameful.

Since when did anyone say that Blind has a drink problem anyway? You're the first person to mention that but whether he has or not, it's still the driving that's the bad thing. I don't think one person (other than you when you criticised others for drinking without driving "hypocritical......") has criticised Blind or anyone else for being drunk. In fact DanK and others have positively said they couldn't give a flying one whether he's steaming drunk or sober. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, I'll say it again - it's the driving when you're drunk that's the problem

Hmn, so did I actually. I just thought 666 was being ironic that in the field of driving you can be pretty much any kind of evil/predjudiced person (rascist/rapist/murderer etc etc) but as long as you are just concentrating on the driving you'll probably be a lot safer than the worlds biggest saint who happens to be driving drunk. I certainly didn't pick up anything more than that in 666's post
