02 Nov 2006: Ajax - FK Austria Wien
And there we go: the first UEFA Cup group game.
Austria Vienna are quite a good name, historically, but they're absolutely crap in the Austrian league, so we really should win this one. In fact: we should win this whole group, if you ask me.
Looking forward to this one.

I really believe we can win this competition, if we keep on playing the way we are right now and avoid key injuries i think we have a shot at lifting the silverware. Still a long way to go though and this is the first step towards that goal.
Keep it up lad´s i think this team can really go places  :xyxthumbs: ;)

Having lost their first game already i wouldent expect that, they will probably play an even fist half and if the game is still tied after halftime then they start closing the shop. It's up too us too score early and not make it tough on ourselves.GangstaRiB schreef:Hopefully Austria Wien wants to play football and doesn't decide to place a copy of the Berlin wall in the Arena..

Quote from Frenk Schinkels, the Dutch ex-manager of Austria Vienna, who got sacked a couple of weeks ago: "I would have loved to play Ajax with Austria. On the other hand: there will be nothing to gain for Austria against the current Ajax side. I put on a video tape of Feyenoord - Ajax in the team bus recently and it started to smell funny... The players really are crapping their pants for Ajax."

Both. Ajax played from the 1st minute attacking. It gave Austria Wien one or two opportunities, but after Huntelaar scored 1-0 it was settled in my opinion. Austria Wien kept playing defensive when they were behind in score, Ajax just kept on playing as they use to do this season: attacking with some nice one-touch football.Dubbel schreef:How did we look out there? Was it a superior performance by Ajax or did we win because we played against a lousy opponent?
@andy: this season could indeed be the revival of 'ons aller Ajax'. I don't know if we're going to win a prize, because some elements in the team aren't topclass. But the way Henk ten Cate brought the football back into the squad is remarkable. You can see that the players are growing under this trainer. More condidence and Henk's tactics are great.

I actually felt like i was watching Ajax vs IK Start again, after the first goal from Huntelaar the players started sleepwalking, Austria Wien even scored the equalizer but it was anuled because of a dubious off-side call, some off the counter atacks after the first goal also showed some vulnerable points, in fact i was watching the game with my friend and i told him " If we keep this up they (Austria) are going too tie the game, but if we score again we will score a third and a forth" it almost turned out that way .Dubbel schreef:How did we look out there? We played well but we could have played better, we need to take these games more serously. Right now i feel like we are more concentrated on the Eredivisie than on Europe. We need too even that out if we want to get far in the Uefa Cup.
PD: Way to go MANU :xyxthumbs: ;)

Pardon my French, but this was a crap opponent...
Ajax weren't great and the game wasn't very interesting, but it's a very reassuring thing that this Ajax can actually beat teams like these easily. There you go, bang, 3-0. No probs. Last season we had tremendous difficulty against literally every opponent. Always tight. The days of comfortable easy wins seem to have returned and it feels good. This team seems to have a certain power, a certain control.

Eurosport haven't shown any highlights and De Hems don't seem to be showing Ajax games anymore so hadn't seen these. Three good goals, especially number 2 by Manu :headbang:
Forza Haarlem. HFC Gone but not forgotten!
