Probably the most sensible words I have seen written on this subject anywhere. At the end of the day it is up to the players themselves to behave. The ref in the Germany v Italy game let the game flow and to me both teams responded in a great fashion - no diving about etc.ZoefdeHaas schreef:I think it's a nice idea for all this, but it's the players who have to do something. They need to learn or re-learn the ethics of soccer (if u may) to keep the game "beautiful". You can't expect everything from the ref or his assistants.
O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

Dont disagree with you Zoef, but the chance of this happening is pretty slim. An example needs to be made of these guys, so the younger generation know its wrong, then maybe in years to come all will be well...we can only hope hey?ZoefdeHaas schreef:I think it's a nice idea for all this, but it's the players who have to do something. it would be nice if the players themselves could step up and be men by stopping the diving about, but do you think a team like portugal or italy would really do that? not much of a chance. players need to be punished for this behavior, they are making a joke out of the sport to be honest. players need to be exposed as cheats, and this is what will really stop the diving. i've seen too many games in this world cup be decided by a bullshit dive, or a ref error. if i wanted to see diving, i would watch women's olympic diving, not soccer. if i want to watch someone diving around the place, it will be a girl in a bathing suit and not tierry henry, c ronaldo or an italian.

>Well not exactly, the flow off play was very good but you just have too keep an eye on Totti if want to see a diver, he's in the same vein of Figo,C Ronaldo and Robben. Great players but horrible divers.jamcocteau schreef:Probably the most sensible words I have seen written on this subject anywhere. At the end of the day it is up to the players themselves to behave. "Yes, I was a cheater. When I was a player in Swiss Amateur League I was making the dives" - said Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA. "When you come to a penalty area and suddenly you loose the ball, you're getting frustrated. Then you fall down and try to make a penalty kick. It's a part of the game... So I can understand Cristiano Ronaldo and other divers...".

Ok, the small final is over. Germany have bronze medals. I must say that they had really good game. On first half Portugal were good, too, but the second was for Germans. Bastian Schweinsteiger proved that he is one of the most tallented player in Germany... It was nice to watch how they played - even if I was rooting for Portugal.
PS: Cristiano Ronaldo was fouled at most one time, but now he is known as a diver, so the referee didn't use his whistle when CR was on the ground... Here's the nice link of how Ronaldo plays :D --> http://shinymedia.blogs.com/photos/unca ... e001_3.gif
Anyway... Very good game, I'm afraid that tommorow's final won't be as interesting as this one.

Couldn't be bothered to watch as the game has no meaning and quite frankly I have had a gutfull of watching Portugal and their diving etc. As I have said before this WC will be remembered for players diving . According to some report today Italy have recorded the most dives in the WC. Well they invented it !!
I just hope the 2 finalists try and play football and give us a good final to remember.

Zidane : from hero to zero.... :redcard:
I don't think France deserved to lose this game, especially in this way, and against... Italy. :pukey:
Italians were slightly better during the first half, but did nothing after...
Overall, we shouldn't forget that is quiet a good result for France. It is slightly better that what I expected anyway... :eusa_liar:

Well, I suppose that makes me the Nostradamus  .SE6Ajacied schreef:
I've just got this feeling that all the scandal in Italy might fire up the team to do well ("we'll show them!")
Anyway, very sorry to see France lose tonight, I can't imagine what was said to Zidane to make him do that. I know the man is no saint or anything but not seen him do anything quite as stupid as that before, especially in the WC Final :nooo:
So, how many World Champions will be playing in Serie C next season then??? My price, none, Juve will go to Serie B at most.

There was an idea that no club will be relegated when Italy win the cup. Just to avoid sad days after such a great success... So it won't be surprise if Juve, Milan etc. will stay is Serie A.
As for the final - I agree with you. Italy had very good first half, but after that they didn't exist. France were better, but was a bit afraid of making offensive actions (I understand that, the teams just didn't want to make mistakes). The only thing I don't understand is Zidane's reaction. A player like him shoudn't make such a stupid things. Not only in World Cup final, but never. Don't have any idea what Materazzi told him, but I must say that it could be great provocation if Zidane attacked him. And don't care that it was against fair play rules! It's a war - if it was the only way to stop Zidane, I'm for it!
I'll never forget the scene when Zidane was going out of the pitch a few metres of the cup... The only thing worth to remember from this World Cup. The end of a great legend finishing his career in the worst possible way...
And now a time for a short summary:
It wasn't the best tournament I've ever seen. I really hoped that it will be, but it wasn't... Only a few good games (and no great ones). The tournament of divers and - and it's very sad - referees' mistakes. The worst thing is that this World Cup finals haven't promoted any young and tallented players  . No great games, no great young players... Definietely not a tournament of my dreams. Maybe I think that also because of Poland's crappy games? Or maybe this WC was really crap? One thing I know for sure: the journalists will have very hard work to make "best 11" from this tournament. The only players which are worth this are: Buffon, Grosso, Cannavaro, Ribery, Vieira and Klose... Also Bosacki for me (no mistakes against Germany and 2 goals for Poland against Costa Rica, but he played only 2 games, so he doesn't have any chance). I hope that Euro Championship will be better...

I wonder what Materazzi told Zidane to get him so upset. It's a pity that one of the world's smartest player left the field in such a way. I thought France deserved more today, they played better but that wasn't enough for them. I just want to mention one player in particular that impressed me: Cannavaro. What an awesome defender, great world cup, great game.
Well I think it was a good world cup, we had pretty intense games but we missed THE player (like Maradona in 86, Cruyff in 74), no new players, poor referees.
The world cup is over and now....lets concentrate on Ajax! :headbang:

Well, it's official. Even Sepp Blatter has confirmed it: it's ok to cheat at the World Cup.

Yes, that's what I was on about. The BBC packaged up all the dives and mimes nicely in their highlights programme.aveslacker schreef:You're right. here's Ronaldo (and the rest of the gang).Steef schreef:That;s not Ronaldo...That's Helder Postiga.

Good to see it's gone to a wider audience now anyway, hopefully all the way to Lisbon.
After the France game I actually changed my support to Germany for the third place game (not that I watched it), glad to see the obnoxious Scolari has now lost two finals games, they were going on so much before that he hadn't lost any.....
