Looks like the media jumped in to early (gee thats unusual!)
No Houllier deal yet: FFA - SBS
http://theworldgame.com.au/home/index.p ... &cid=72971
Football Federation Australia (FFA) has denied it has reached an agreement with Gerard Houllier for the Frenchman to coach the Socceroos, but admits he is one of a 'number of candidates' for the position.
A report in English newspaper The Mail on Sunday said the FFA would allow former France and Liverpool coach Houllier to see out the season with Lyon before taking over the Socceroos, but in a press release FFA denied it had reached any agreement.
"Contrary to media reports, the FFA has not signed an agreement with Gerard Houllier for the position of Head Coach of the Qantas Socceroos," the statement read.
"Talks regarding the Australian Head Coach position are continuing with a number of candidates, including Gerard Houllier."

Shocking news - a few websites told that Greece could be banned from a european football games (clubs and national competitions) because of ingerention of government into their FA.
Now I'm afraid that it will be the same with Poland. We have f*cking mess in our FA, so the prime minister said that it is possible that our government will put someone from the gov into football's structures. As I know it is forbid by FIFA, so it could happen also for us.
On the other hand - I think that FIFA just wants to scare Greece and they will give them a second chance to correct their mistakes. I can't imagine football games without Panathinaikos or Olympiakos...

The story about a possible European ban for Greek sides even appeared in today's Philadelphia. Inquirer. Must be serious, the clowns at the Inky wouldn't know a football if it drilled them in the mush and rarely report on it.

The fraud case against a number of major Serie A clubs is about to reach its climax. Today the prosecutor demanded the following sentences:
Juventus:
- relegation to Serie C or lower
- to start the season at minus 6 points
- loss of their two most recent Italian championships
AC Milan:
- relegation to Serie B
- to start the season at minus 3 points
Fiorentina and Lazio Roma:
- relegation to Serie B
- to start the season at minus 15 points
These demanded sentences are heavy and according to many newspapers the judge will be tempted to grant them as demanded. Juventus coach Fabio Cappello resigned immediately after the prosecutor had revealed his demands.
Verdict expected on 10 July.
Wow - this is serious sh*t...

WOW! I too hope those judged to have committed crimes will be dealt with severely. Let it be a hard lesson learned for Italian football. The decision may even become legal precedent which, where applicable,is used to deal with future cheats inside and outside Italy.
Sadly, I still see the usual suspects in the transfer market circling the courthouse like vultures. Reals's Emilio THE VULTURE Butragueno is quite literally among them; but isn't alone. Several big clubs will now be seeing this more as opportunity to fatten themselves than a cold hard dose of realty.

My verdict's prediction:
Juventus - still in Serie A, but minus 3 points at the start of new season (plus a few mln euro penalty)
Milan - just like Juve, but lower pay penalty (thank to Berlusconi)
Fiorentina - relegation to Serie B, because it is the worst of the suspected clubs.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think that we all know that football is connected with money. I really don't believe that italian federation/ court/ whatever will punish the clubs in worse way - just because they all have money for that. Serie A without Juve and Milan won't be as atractive for football fans around the world, so punishment could be as pathetic as I wrote...
If I'm wrong - give Ibrahimović back to Ajax :D .

I saw Advocaat's name and ,for a split second, thought the rest of the sentence had him coaching Juve.
Speaking now of corruption, leave it to paragon of virtue Sleazio Berlusconi( SARCASM), he with no vested interest in the decision(MORE SARCASM) , to speak harshly of the prosecution.

Don't know where else to put this, but I am super excited about the new eredivisie season, particularly with the way this world cup has gone.
And it looks like I'm not the only one:

Nano soccer pitch etched onto glass
Reuters
http://abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1679412.htm
A German scientist has used nanotechnology to create what he believes is the world's smallest soccer pitch.
Dr Stefan Trellenkamp, from the University of Kaiserslautern, made the pitch by using an electron beam to engrave lines onto a tiny piece of acrylic glass.
The pitch measures 380 by 500 nanometres and can only be seen through an electron microscope.
"I am really, really proud," the nanotechnology researcher says.
"The only problem is that I really don't know what to do with it. I can't put it on show as no one can see it," he says. "I guess it'll just stay in my drawer for the time being."
Trellenkamp says it took him a whole day to etch the pitch, which is so small that 20,000 of them could fit onto the tip of a human hair.

Absolutely vital, this creation. Where would the world be without it...?

What’s frightening about the whole small pitch article was that my wife found it and told me about it and she was actually interested in it. Not only that, but she has really gotten into the world cup (getting up at 2am to watch games!!!) AND she even suggested we finally buy a new TV for the World Cup as our old one was too small to watch the games properly. WTF?!?

OK. Get this, as if what I wrote above didn't scare the bejezus out of everyone...No problems with the rules either. She understood offside rule AND was even making correct calls during the game (eg: that was/wasn't a foul, that was way offside, the Portugese dive too much etc).Henk de Gier schreef:did she ask you to explain "offside"?
I guess I should be thankful, but I am waiting for the 'remember when I watched the wc? well I need you to do me a favour..." comment
