Isn't South Africa very hot this time of year?
May as well give it to Brazil, again.

When are we going to do this thing in the winter?
Let's have it in ... Australia!
Orange is also the colours of Ivory Coast btw ;)

Actually, it looks like Australia is to bid for the 2018 WC (cant wait...not that far away :D )

Given the huge success of hosting youth wc's and of course the olympics we could host it easily, I think though logistically it might be a pain in the arse for the Euro clubs. When to have it? It might be the only option for the Euro leagus to have a longer winter break and we host it in Jan or something.

Winter is not really an option for Syndey/Melbourne or Adelaide and given Melbourne (or poss Sydney) would host the final, I doubt it would happen then. The Olympics where held around September from memory, which might be too late to start. I guess the other option might be April (great weather down here in Melbourne), but this may mean too early an end for the Euro season.

Would be nice not to have to watch games at ridiculous times though for a change :)

South Africa is in the southern hemisphere. Weather at this time of year in South Africa is 15 degrees celcius or so.

Oh my god... What a crapy World Cup it is! After a game Germany - Argentina there is no single team worth supporting for me. I'll watch the rest of games, that's obvious, but I know that I won't have such emotional horrors as to this day.

Hehe, I think that you all are impressed and that's the reason why you don't write anyting about the second of today's games. I was really shocked that Italian beat Ukraine as easy as they did it (but I must say that Ukraine had a few chances, they didn't want to put 10 men to defence, but tried to attack). The second important thing is that the Italians played hmmm, let's say that great word, fair!! There were no divings, no stupid fouls (well, it were, but not as many as usual)... And the referee was quite good. He made a few mistakes, but there were not as big as Graham Poll and the rest of black mafia did on this World Cup.

It seems to be quite good game, Germany vs Italy...

Had to watch the first game here in the us, in a good irish pub. sad to say there were about 20 krauts behind us. their accents sound kind of like 20 geese going to their death-horrible. Anyway, couldn't get out of work so had to leave after the first half of overtime..just as well...didn't have to listen to them win... the germans were boring, endlessly pumping crosses into the box. The germans are in the semi-finals for the same reason the South Koreans were in the semi-finals four years ago....good for fifa..

Argentina should have had a penalty about 2min from the end of regular time, except the shite ref gave Rodriguez a card for a dive? wtf?!?

Home ground advantage definately helps.

All of the Dutchies on AT (including me) agreed that it was a sure dive. And a crappy one at that. The defender made contact with Maxi Rodriguez, but so did Neill with Grosso.

It was a blatant dive. and I thought the ref had a good game - especially compared to ivanov.

Lehmann was brilliant in the shoot-out as well.

There was one massive difference. Grosso went into Neill, not the other way around. Anyway thats history, I am over that :eusa_liar: :D

When I first saw the incident, I thought it was a penalty, so did the english commentator (martin tyler). On replay, he thought it was lucky to go the way it did too. Maybe if Rodriguez didnt make so much of it, it would have been given.

Either way. No one left in the WC that I want to win which is a shame after a pretty interesting tournament up to this point. Would be interesting if FIFA got rid of the ranking system. Never happen, but it would open up things a bit. A group with Germany, Argentina, Italy & Brazil...now THAT would be a group of death :)

By the way, if anyone was wondering what the barny was about after the game...(REUTERS)
==================
Players and officials from both teams clashed on the pitch after Germany beat Argentina 4-2 on penalties to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Argentina's Leandro Cufre, an unused substitute, was shown the red card after the final whistle, FIFA said in its official match report.

Although German coach Juergen Klinsmann and his Argentine counterpart Jose Pekerman played down the incident, FIFA is likely to take a very dim view of it especially as TV pictures were beamed to a huge global audience.

German team manager Oliver Bierhoff, caught in the middle of the melee, said he had intervened after an Argentina substitute trod on German defender Per Mertesacker.

"It's a shame that in a game like a quarter-final such pictures end up getting sent around the world," Bierhoff said.

"The fans have shown that they can get on well with each other and we should be able to do the same as sportsmen and team representatives."
...
FIFA officials and referee Lubos Michel were all caught up in the melee and punches and kicks appeared to be thrown in chaotic scenes which went on for approximately 90 seconds in front of a 72,000 crowd.

The trouble appeared to start when midfielder Tim Borowski gestured towards the Argentina players to "keep quiet" having scored his penalty to make it 4-2 in Germany's favour.

Several of the South American players walked towards him and when Esteban Cambiasso's final Argentina spot-kick was saved by German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, the Argentina defender Fabricio Coloccini approached Germany's Oliver Neuville.

Punches were thrown in a brief melee before it was broken up.

Germany skipper Michael Ballack blamed the Argentinians for starting the trouble saying after the match: "I think the first provocation came from Argentina. They were shouting at our players during the penalty shoot-out.

"They said something we couldn't understand but I think they tried to influence our penalty takers.

"When we scored the last penalty, Tim Borowski put his fingers to his lips and they were a bit mad.

FIFA will examine video footage of the incident and both teams are liable for heavy fines or other sanctions.

It's a bit of luck no one was dying as England cannot take penalties to save their lives.............!!!!!!!!!

Also, what is it with Man United players and general stupidity? Firsat Beckham in 98 and now Rooney choses to stamp on someones groin, smack bang inh front of the referee!

What a nob. I don't doubt he will be booed up and down the country just like Beckahm was in 98/99. It was character building for Beckham though and no doubt will be for that pillock.

Does this settle it? I always tend to feel more Enclish when they lose. Goodbye and Coodnight Vienna.

yeah, France played really well today. An absolutely fantastic display of football by Zidane. I wish a player like that would never retire.

Well, you may have to support France after all, as me  Italy ? :pukey: :pukey: Portugal ? :pukey: :pukey: :pukey: Germany ? I don't like them but I don't dislike them either.

I would have never bet that France would go this far, but the result of tonight doesn't surprise me. Brazil wasn't the god of football in this world cup and they paid the price for their laziness. France worked harder and honestly I didn't think they could do it before the game against Spain. Big mistake...

Now, it's time to trash Portugal  The joke has lasted too long now, they must be kicked out of this World Cup.

Hehe my friend said a good thing... He told me that he has to change beer for a cup of coffee when Italy and France will go to the final ;) .

As for today's games - I was really happy that Portugal went to the semi-finals (sorry, english Ajacieden). It is the only team that I'd like to see as a gold medalists. Not because I like them so much, but because I don't like the rest of the semi-finals' squad. English players have to change their minds, because they can't stand the pression during the big tournaments. Beckham (a few times), now Rooney...

I was quite happy with advance of France. Brazil don't deserve for a medal. Geez, it was the worst brazilian team I've ever seen. WTF happened with Ronaldinho? No actions, no passes, no shots... Was it his worse clone? They should thank God that they were in an easy group. They wouldn't qualify from so-called groups of death.

Well done France, excellent game and so happy that the Harlem Globetotters are out. From memory neither of our French Ajacied were supporting France at the start of the tournement but I see that's changed now ;) .

I think it was me that did it. I wore my lucky Zidane shirt to watch the game and he laid on a peach of a free kick for Henry to score.

Anyway, glad to see France through, complete with comedy keeper Barthez. Apparently this is the first time sine '82 that we have all European semi-finalists (which would explain why I didn't remember it happening before).

This world cup started out interesting and exciting and has gotten steadily worse since then. Italy, Portugal and Germany in the semis? Ugh. The only team more objectionable than those three is Mexico. At least they didn't make it.

The more this world cup continues, the more I'm looking forward to the beginning of the Eredivisie season.

Respect to France, though. Zidane was sublime, Vieira was great, Henry magical. They deserved to win, and they didn't do the whole "fake injury with ten minutes left and a one goal lead" bullshit that Portugal, Italy, et al would have done.

I'm hoping they win it.
