Summing Up The 2005-2006 Season

Bericht door ajaxusa » di mei 09, 2006 4:11 pm

What are your "summary" thoughts about the season? Of course I have a very limited perspective, but here are mine:

* Surprises in a good way: Stekelenburg, Vermaelen, Emanuelson, Boukhari and (times 10) Huntelaar
* Disappointments: Juanfran, Mitea (injury)
* Signature moments: Stankovic's goal in Milan, Rosales' goal against Feyenoord in the first play-offs
* Controversies: attack of the ADO fan home, anything to do with Danny Blind (but what a lovely way to say goodbye to the fans)
* Favorite personal memory: My day in the Amsterdam Archives with Menno.

All in all, an interesting season, with drama, controversy, some good football, a lot of crap football, and some 'minor' silverware at the end. And a lot of optimism (at least by me) for next season.[/list]

Nice topic :xyxthumbs:

For me:

* Surprises in a good way- KJH (!!!), Vermaelen, Emanuelson, Maduro

* Disappointments- Juanfran, Sneijder (he had good games, but I've expected more great ones), Mitea (injury), Lindenbergh, Galasek

* Signature moments- Sneijder's goal against Groningen, Stanković's goal in CL, KJH transfer

* Controversies: attack of the ADO fan home, de Jong's transfer

* Favorite personal memory- I didn't have any great one, so I'm looking forward to the next season :).

Yeah, I missed that one. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a near train de-railment quite as much :blush:, if we could just get that atmosphere in the ArenA every week the place would be a cauldron!
Forza Haarlem. HFC Gone but not forgotten!

this inparticular season, no one absolutely no one was affraid to come to the Amsterdam Arena. It must be the exact opposite next season. Ofcourse its a bittersweet end for our dear friend Danny Blind, once again I have to reiterate how sorry I am for the way things are. But 10 defeats in a season is absolutely unheard of at the Amsterdam Arena. I hope next season that we dont concede anymore then 10 goals. and to bring back our 30th Eredivisie ever. Also we must ward off any challenge from PSV, I heard van Nistelrooij is linked back there, Galasek might follow aswell because of Koeman. I would like to see a two horse race between us till the bitter end, aslong as we win it. and it would be nice to have an all dutch champions league final, and why not, there was a spanish one in 2000 and an italian one in 2003, so we shall see.

*Surprises: Huntelaar, Rosenberg playing well on the left, Urby, Vermaelen and having a jong Ajax player (Gaston Sangoy) coming to play for my favorite team here in Peru.

*Dissapointments: Manucharyan, Juanfran, ending 4th in the eredivisie

*Signature moments: Huntelaar arriving to Ajax. Huntelaar's bycicle kick goal in the last minute, Huntelaar's last minute goal against PSV in the final, the first half against Inter.

*Controversies: attack of the ADO fan home

*Favorite personal memory: When we were winning 2-0 in Amsterdam against Inter. The 7-2 against feyenoord and my last good memory is the final of the gatorade cup. When I saw Blind and the players lifting the cup it was really a great image :xyxthumbs:

* Surprises in a good way: Emergence of Urby, 1st half against Inter, some of younger players showing more passion for club than more experienced players.

* Disappointments: After good start in JC Shield the utter awfulness of the season until March, senior players definitely not playing for jersey until too late in season and imo ultimately being to blame for Blind's dismissal, too many games finishing with hit and hope tactics.

* Signature moments: 6 game run against lower placed clubs came at right time to rescue season, The Hunters equaliser in cup semi and indeed his arrival at club.

* Controversies: ADO incident

* Favorite personal memory: First away game in Europe, meeting a lot of Ajax USA guys although only briefly, Cup semi (well injury time and extra time)
O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

* Surprises: somehow making it to the CL playoffs next season, Vermaelen actually becoming a half decent defender, the board keeping blind for the entire season, the fans giving Rosenberg a chance while he was struggling early

* Disappointments: hardly any enjoyable games to watch esp the first 3/4 of the season, so many injuries which didn't help the first point, Blind blaming the refs for our poor season

* Signature moments: Anything KJH related, the wonderful team goal against fword

* Controversies: ADO incident

* Favorite personal memory: The Ajax USA trip. Photos with some of the team, the last min winner in the cup and scoring a lot of goals against Fword.

* Surprises in a good way: Rosenberg contributing as a winger, the number of goals Huntelaar was able to score, playoffs actually benefiting Ajax
* Disappointments: Not contending for the championship, loosing favourites Trabelsi, SQD, De Jong and Vonk
* Signature moments: Eradicating Fword in the play offs, home game against Inter
* Controversies: Danny Blind and ADO fan home
* Favorite personal memory: Babel and Schneider’s goals against Brøndby. In fact, there are too many personal in-your-face-moments about the Brøndby games to list :eusa_dance:

Sangoy had a good start of the season here. He scored in the friendly games and I belive he scored 3 goals in the Libertadores Cup (its like our champions league in south america). But then the team started getting poor results and his level also started to go down. I remember one game where he was right in front of the goal and he kicked the ball to the corner flag, absolutely the worst shot I've ever seen. I think he'll go back to Argentina when the season ends. The one positive thing about him is that he gives 100% effort in every game.

Yeah he looks pretty fat :D
I'm not sure about Cevasco he was injured but I think he is ok now. He even played 2 games ago and scored. I think he has been rested for the last game. Cool to know that you follow Universitario Steef :xyxthumbs:

Okay, here goes...

* Surprises in a good way: Urby and KJH (thank f*ck for that guy...)

* Disappointments: the 34-game Eredivisie season as a whole and - more than any result in particular - the football

* Signature moments: the rare moments of euphoria: the first half against Inter, the two Feyenoord play-off games and the second half of the cup final (that's three football games in total)

* Controversies: attack of the ADO fan home, Danny Blind's annoying excuses (poor attitude of the players, bad referees, negative home fans... but never his own work), the sale of Julien Escudé and the slightly embarrassing Leidseplein celebration that should not have been organized in the first place (come on, it was only the Gatorade Cup)

* Favorite personal memory: the cup final and the trip to Switzerland (Thun away)

K.
Still alive...
