Aye boring right enough mate, just have to come and watch the Jocks with me instead - crap football but good bevvy sessions.

I love 'em actually. Really nice.

These are actually inspired by two classic Oranje outfits. The orange 'home' kit looks almost exactly like the kit they wore in 1959. The 'away' kit with the diagonal Dutch flag is the kit Holland wore in their very first official international game against Belgium in 1905.

I always like simple kits. Plain colours, no shiny patterns. I love these.

By the way: there is already an 'affair' about these kits. Reportedly, the idea of designing retro jerseys inspired by the 1950s and 1905 uniforms came from journalist Hugo Borst and writer Matty Verkamman (the latter is the national 'Oranje authority'; he writes all the Oranje chronicles and stuff). They talked to Nike and Nike promised them to think about it and let them know what they were gonna do. Borst and Verkamman spent quite a lot of time drawing the designs and talking to Nike people, so they asked for some money for the idea. Nike (reportedly) said that that was no problem.

Borst and Verkamman never received a phonecall and - if Borst and Verkamman are to be believed - then presented the whole idea as if it was their own. According to the papers Borst and Verkamman will now take 'em to court.

Gawd, we always end up in politics....bloody muti-nationals trampling over everyone again...nice shirts though, whoever designed them but why couldn't they have gone the whole way and used the classic badge instead of that stylized lion........

Well, at the end of the day it is 2006 you know... Not 1959. The KNVB logo has changed. Not the same anymore. These uniforms are not replicas; they are inspired by the ones from the past.

Those new Oranje home shirts look awfully like the ones I purchased from a Chinese junk shop for my social team at work. Nike have once again come up with some real stinkers.

Nike have applies this retro look to quite a few of their replica kits for the World Cup. Have you seen the adidas kits, now they are a mess.

Ko, your story doesn't surprise me about not crediting people or paying for ideas.

The Dutch Jeugdjournaal (daily TV news for children) had a very remarkable scoop a couple of days ago. They had a special 'press conference' where Marco van Basten answered kids' questions.

One of them asked: "How many goals do you think Huntelaar will score at the World Cup?"
Van Basten: "I think... twelve goals!"
The kid: "So, he'll be in the definitive squad."
Van Basten (after a few seconds of thinking): "Well, okay, I guess I have to admit that now."

:D Talented little journalist...

Hilarious. He never said a word to 'grown-up' journalists, and then gives the scoop to a 10 year-old kid. :D

That is seriously one of the best things I have read all year (OK so my life is boring!). Absolute classic. Watch the press sign this kid up.

Do you think van Basten was serious though???

Of course he is! Huntelaar is the Eredivisie's top scorer by a mile! How could any sane manager leave him out?

Well, he will have to leave one of the Bundesliga's top scorers out of the squad, for starters... Which he's already done, actually!

Makaay isnt top scorer anymore, and his contribution in Oranje isnt as magnificent as it is for Munchen.

For the May 9th training camp in Noordwijk, Heitinga may well be back in the fold as Van Basten brought him back after coaches were impressed of his performance. Urby Emanuelson, and Maduro won't be in the training that day.

It looks like Van Basten has trimmed down his squad already....dgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord), Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord) en Martijn Meerdink (AZ) have all been discarded by Marco van Basten. Im not going to complain about these lot, I think Urby is very young...apparently Johnny Heitinga is in the squad, I think he should be in instead of Opdam. But Van Basten will trim it even more so expect more heads to roll (hopefully one of that being Ruud van Nistelrooijs :yes: )

With Lodewijks out, does that mean Van der Sar, Stekelenburg and Timmer are our WC keepers? Afterall coaches usually bring 3 keepers and 20 outers.

I really don't get the Heitinga thing for Blind and Van Basten.

28-man Holland Squad Named - Spurs' Davids & Villa's Bouma Excluded, Liverpools Kromkamp Called

Submitted by Scott Harkness on Mon, 08/05/2006 - 14:01.
published in: Latest News | Netherlands Team News

Oranje head coach Marco van Basten has named 28 players that will gather to train, of which 23 players will be making the final Netherlands squad for the World Cup in June.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Edgar Davids has been left of Holland’s 28-man pre-World Cup squad by coach Marco van Basten.

Also left out by van Basten was Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma, with Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay and AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf the big name absentees.

The Oranje coach has not said whether or not any of the players that have been omitted could be included in his final 23-man squad, which must be named by FIFA’s 15 May deadline.

Liverpool defender Jan Kromkamp has been included, even though van Basten had previously said that he considered the move to Anfield a bad career choice, that may have affected his World Cup chances.

Holland 28-man squad for pre-World Cup training:

Keepers: Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar);

Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (Hamburg SV), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ Alkmaar), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Johnny Heitinga (Ajax) and Barry Opdam (AZ Alkmaar);

Midfielders: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Phillip Cocu (PSV Eindhoven), Nigel de Jong (Hamburg SV), Denny Landzaat (AZ Alkmaar), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg SV);

Strikers: Ryan Babel (Ajax), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuijt (Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven).

Tbh Heitinga is a good player for the Oranje, as seen in games during qualification esp. Czech and Romania.

As for Boateng, Holland have a notorious rep for bein "lazy" towards the end which usually counted against them (3-2 against Cze Euro 2004...) so perhaps Boateng (and Davids..) bring an extra oush with their energy.

It sucks Urby is out, but he is still young and will have the chance to be part of the national team in other world cups.
Heitinga's addition to the squad is very good for Ajax. I think he's been doing pretty well in recent games and his call to the national team will boost up his confidence. This call and the presence of Stam next season will hopefully help Johnny rise his level of playing.

I think Boateng is an over rated baboon, I hope Boularouz gets injured, I have my own reasons why he shouldnt be in the squad, also I dont want van Bommel or Nigel de Jong in the squad either, last but not least, Van Nistelrooij should be left out, he creates a dilemma, as we have Huntelaar, who IMO, should start, and Kuyt aswell.
