The really super-talents are already contracted by the bigger club, like Madrid of Milan. They have far better connections, even psv has better connections in Brazil than Ajax.
Why there are not so many U.S players, i can't give you a reason. I don't know the level of skill in the U.S. It's a bit of a third world country when it comes to football.
Something else: if Ajax signs Ten Cate, there will be a chance that Davids will come with him. The Spurs hired Davids, so the Spurs have noting to say about him. Ten Cate is a huge fan of Davids. Last year, when Davids played a half year for Barca he did some good things. His passion and aggrression 'woke up' the players.

That's not as true as it used to be. The U.S. isn't quite on the level of England, Holland or the like, but they've closed the gap considerably in the last 10-15 years.GangstaRiB schreef: Why there are not so many U.S players, i can't give you a reason. I'm personally a proponent of buying the better American players: they would likely come cheap, they're generally hard workers and very athletic, and if you buy them young enough, they can develop their skill significantly. Here's a list of American players that could conceivably do well at a club like Ajax:
Eddie Johnson F
Bobby Convey M
Landon Donovan M/F
Clint Dempsey M
Freddy Adu M
Eddie Pope D (He's not young, but he is good)
Oguchi Onyewu D
I'm sure there are a few more. I'm not saying these guys would all be stars, but they would be highly valuable relative to how little they would cost. Plus, as an American, I would love to see more US boys at Ajax.

I have never heard of Defour and have absolutely no idea as to whether he's any good... I do know that he's very young (18), so there's a fair chance he won't be an immediate starter.orange goblin schreef:it seems that we are near to Mendes Da Silva and Defour. Opinions? I liked the first and I am happy he could have another chance with Ajax
As for Mendes da Silva: he's a good player, always liked him, but it's a bit daft that we had him on loan with the option to sign him up for almost nothing... and two years later we're about to pay 2M for him...
Anyway, another rumour then! This is on the BBC website:
Liverpool will let Jan Kromkamp, signed in January in a £2m deal, move to Ajax for £3m. (Sunday Express)
The 'new Trabelsi'? I think it would be an excellent idea!

BTW where would you play him? He's a great talent (IMO worth the money), but just like Sonck I doub't he's fit for Ajax's system. I've only seen a few matches of Ajax recently and I can't seem to find anything that resembles a system. Defour could fit in the old role Litmanen had (closely behind the deep striker, making the openings towards the wingers), but is there such a position now?
nope, not really. But chances are we might return to that old fashioned 4-3-3 style next season. He might be used as a rm, our midfield would look something like this:
---Sneijder-----------------Defour---
----------------Maduro--------------
but i think that might be too offensive, it requires a lot of tracking back by the lm & rm. Not exactly Sneijder's forte, how is Defour at that?
By tracking you mean closing in on the player in possesion? Well he's quite good at that. Defour isn't the traditional 9.5 who only runs when he has the ball. He thinks defensively as well. Still, he's quite short and fragile, so you don't have to expect he will recuperate as many balls as let's say Maduro.
Well rock and roll is such a crazy drug,
It wraps you up in a great big hug
It wraps you up in a great big hug
Give him a chance he has only been at Liverpool a few weeks and only half a season in Spain. Any player needs time to adjust in a new country.
As I said the other day we are only buying Dutch , and Flemish footballers.(plus a couple of Danes who have been in Dutch footy a while)
Do you guys agree with this policy ??

Yes. If there are two options (of similar quality) and one of them is Dutch, we should go for the Dutchie.SPL schreef:Do you guys agree with this policy ??
In the case of Jan Kromkamp: I haven't followed him at Villarreal and Liverpool, but I know that I was always very impressed with him when he played for AZ. Excellent right fullback, with a similar forward drive as Trabelsi. I would have been in favour of buying him, even if he was Chinese.

Liverpool always saw him as backup for Steve Finnan. Much of his playing time has been out of position, e.g. in midfield. Kromkamp probably just hoped to have enough playing time this season to get picked for the World Cup squad. I think he would be happy to move on.[/b]At Liverpool, is lack of impression, dats why he aint playing much.

Very well said Ko and that is the exact same reason Kromkamp has not been playing a whole lot. Both Villareal and Liverpool prefer using players from there own country, Javi Venta plays right back in Villareal and Finnan(Yeah he's irish but he is from the UK ;) ) at Liverpool. We should apply the same philosophy i'm all for Kromkamp returning to the Netherlands :xyxthumbs:Kowalczyk schreef:Yes. I think it might be due to the colour of the shirt he wears on international duty ;)bryan schreef:hehehe, good point :Ddws schreef:bryan, you suggest Spurs reserve Stephen Kelly as a potential full back for Ajax, but you dont view Kromkamp as good enough.bryan schreef:If Kromkamp can't hack it at Villarreal or Liverpool, why should Ajax want him?

That's why I said: if there are two options of similar quality, Ajax should go for the Dutchie. Also, Ajax scouts should primarily focus on the Dutch market. If there is no Dutchie of the required quality, then of course they must sign a non-Dutch player.rahul9687 schreef:I don't really agree with this Dutch/Flemish policy....a good player is a good player....whether he is from Argentina or Arabia.......we should look for the best player we can possibly have in a position...not his nationality...all the big clubs do this and that is why they succeed.

Yup. That's the way to do it.
Sad thing was though, that Ajax had no idea what the market looked like on the other side of the ocean. That's something I find inexcusable for an organization that wants to be seen as professional and wants to contend for the top silverware in the world.
