Exactly. If Chivu moves to Madrid I'll have to find some form of sympathy towards Barcelona's rivals.

Surely he's not old enough to play for the geriatricos yet.

Once again lads, Clarence Seedorf covering every blade of grass on the pitch, picking the ball up at the edge of his area and spraying passes all over the pitch, supplying killer passes at the edge of the lyon box and down the flanks, having a few long range drives, he is the very heart of the milan midfield. but he can't even get on the dutch panel?????

I think he's a decent player. So what, he missed a penalty once against Turkey? Plenty of Dutch players have missed penalties, but only Seedorf got villified in the way he did.

I also think Seedorf is a decent player.

I'm just having a wee laugh at the number of times Mick has seen fit to inform us of Seedorf's good form at Milan.

He only ever posts about Seedorf and he only ever asks the self same question.

Why the red card? Well, I'm begining to think Mick is Clarence and repeated self pleading deserves a red card. ;)

PS: He's posted the same bloody message in the 'General football discussion' thread. :eusa_liar: :D

If he had played well when he was in the dutch team, maybe he'd still be there.

A former Ajax man goes to America: Dave van den Bergh came out of the Ajax youth system in the years after the glorious Van Gaal era, but never really became a starter for Ajax. He joined Utrecht and had a good career there. He actually made it to the Oranje squad once or twice.

Earlier this season he asked Utrecht to dissolve his contract. The reason: love. Van den Bergh is married to an American woman and he wanted to move to the U.S. with her. Utrecht gave him permission to go and Van den Bergh signed a contract at the Kansas City Wizards today. He will play for them until 2008.

Wasn't he hyped as the next big star at Ajax?

I think he spent a couple of years in Madrid with Rayo Valecano prior to joining Utrecht.

Not as far as I can remember. In those days just after '95 and '96 almost every Ajax youth player was a hype. If the name of Ajax was on a youth player's resumé he could almost immediately sign a great contract at some Italian or Spanish side.

Over here Van den Bergh wasn't much of a hype, though. He was a skillful guy, but a little bit too slow for a winger. I think everybody saw that.

On the highlights of the eredivisie I've seen over the last couple of years, he seemed a classy player, if not a bit disinterested/lazy. Other than that, a couple of times this year he scored goals with his right foot and the commentator seemed amazed. Was he really that one-footed?

His problem is not the way he plays, it's his attitude. Remember in Euro 2004 he demanded to play in the # 10 position or he would not play, thats the kind of attitude that Van Basten has been avoiding since he started as the dutch national coach. He wants too build a team as a unit, their is no place for headcases in the "Oranje".

Some hype that would be hard to match:
I recall a newspaper (can't remember if it was a Scottish or English Title) describing a young Jan Venegoor, rumored at the time to be interesting a number of top English clubs, as the next Dennis Bergkamp. :drecul2:

Only a two year deal for Dave? I think he could easily play through to his late 30's in the States.

Didulica found guilty of assault
from www.theworldgame.com.au
AP

Australian-born goalkeeper Joey Didulica has been found guilty of assault for a mid-air foul on an opponent a year ago and fined E60,000 ($A100,000) by an Austrian court.
Didulica, who plays for Austria Vienna and Croatia - the country of his parent's birth - tackled Rapid Vienna forward Axel Lawaree on May 26 last year, leaving Lawaree seriously hurt.

Judge Bettina Neubauer suspended half the fine on condition Didulica does not break the law for a year. He also has the choice of going to prison for a year instead of paying the fine.

The judge also ordered Didulica to pay Lawaree E1,000 ($A1,660) compensation for his injuries.

Lawaree suffered multiple fractures of his nose and skull as well as eye injuries when kicked in the face by Didulica.

The keeper, who was banned for eight matches following the incident, insisted he was playing the ball.

Didulica's lawyer said he would appeal.

Has anyone here actually seen this incident. The fine (and alternative prison sentence) sound extremely harsh if there is even the slightest doubt that this wasn't intentional.

I've got no big problem personally with the law getting involved in football if there is real criminal behaviour occuring like what happened to 'Kung Fu' Cantona at Crystal Palace and like what should have happened to Schumacher for the attempted murder of Batiston at World Cup 82, but if Didulica claims he was playing the ball and there is any doubt then we are in dangerous territory (I don't think Cantona could have said that he was playing the ball ( ) and Schumacher would have had a problem trying that excuse........)

I haven't seen it either. I must say though I have seen Didu a few times and he seems a pretty down to earth character (not that this means he doesn't have a mean/nasty streak hidden somewhere of course).

If anyone knows a link to it can they please point me in the general direction? I would love to see how intentional it was. But if he got an 8 month ban from the football federation, then there must have been something in it you would think.

I've not seen the incident either. I can only say that I find it difficult to believe and think it would be totally out of character for the Joe D. I met on several occasions while he was at Ajax.

Not a Gooner supporter in the least, but congrats to Dennis The Menace and GOOD LUCK in the final. If he is playing his last year, how great would it be for a CLASS ACT to end his career with a CL winner's medal? Sorry to any TH supporters for these blasphemous thoughts, but Dennis The Menace ranks just behind Blind and is tied with Petterson on my fave Ajacieden list.

This hasn't been mentioned yet, I think...

A great former Ajacied has decided to call it quits: Frank de Boer will leave Qatar, where he spent the very last season of his player career, and return to Holland. This report is from the Sky Sports website...
De Boer calls time on career

Veteran defender Frank de Boer has announced his retirement from football.

The former Holland international, who was capped a record 112 times by his country, will become coach of Ajax's youth team and will attend a professional management course.

The 35-year-old has been plying his trade in Qatar this season, but missed the last few games with a knee injury.

He is now longing to return to his homeland to pursue the next stage of his life, after more than six years away from Holland.

"It's been enough," de Boer told Ajax's official website. "There were a couple of offers and I could have kept playing, but my family and I also wanted to go home."

De Boer enjoyed a lengthy and memorable career with Ajax, where he won the UEFA Champions League, as well as Barcelona, Galatasaray, and Rangers before moving to Qatar.
If I remember it correctly De Boer will become a youth coach at Ajax while attending the KNVB Coach Professional Football course.

A lot has been said (also on these boards) about the way Frank and Ronald de Boer left Ajax. They had just extended their deals, then suddenly wanted to join Barcelona. When Ajax said 'no' they 'forced' a departure, strangling coach Morten Olsen in the process.

This was dirty and a black page in the careers of the twins. But is it dirty enough to hate them forever and to forget about everything they've done for Ajax? My answer: absolutely no way, if only because Frank and Ronald deeply regret what happened. I've seen interviews in which they've admitted that, and they seemed to be sincere.

Things happen. Johan Cruyff left Ajax three times after a conflict with the board, and after one of those conflict he actually joined Feyenoord. Do we still hate him for that? No. Again: things happen. Forgive and forget.

To me, personally, Frank de Boer's career underscores that I'm becoming a bit of a veteran myself: I remember his début as if it were yesterday. 21 September 1988. PEC Zwolle away. Coach Kurt Linder had been fired the day before and the next day De Boer made his début under interim coaches Kohn and Van Gaal. Ajax lost, 4-1.

http://www.ajax-usa.com/history/fifteen ... -1988.html

A couple of weeks later I was there at the Olympic Stadium when Frank de Boer played his very first home game for Ajax-1, against PSV in the pissing rain, at an almost empty stadium. Bad times. He was great, Ajax beat PSV 2-0. It was the game of Ajax's resurrection.

I was there in person when Frank de Boer's career started and I saw him play in the Ajax jersey for thousands and thousands of minutes. Feels a bit strange. And now he's no longer a football player. Good luck, Frankie. We'll see you around.

Welcome home Frank!!His skills and experience are a great resource for Ajax to tap.

As for THE TRANSFER, Lord knows, people make mistakes. If not, the letters ST would appear as a prefix to all our names and churches would be erected as monuments to our piety. He and Ronald screwed up in the aforementioned forced transfer. That was then.Time to move on.
