Germans Rig WC Draw!!!

Matthaus denies World Cup draw conspiracy theory
December 12, 2005
BERLIN (AFP) - West Germany's 1990 World Cup winning captain Lothar Matthaus has hit back at a report in Italy that he manipulated Friday's 2006 World Cup draw.
Matthaus had the task of drawing teams from Pot Four and Italian television channel Sky Italia reportedly accused him of picking up a ball for Italy's group before putting it back into the bowl to pull out another instead.
The television channel claimed prepared hot and cold balls allowed Matthaus to know who he was picking, as he pulled out the United States, seventh in the FIFA rankings, for Italy's group.
"The Italians are mad if they think that," former Inter Milan star Matthaus informed Bild daily.
"I had no idea which ball corresponded to which team. That is utter nonsense."
Italy were handed a tough draw for the 2006 World Cup finals, running from June 9 until July 9, with the Czech Republic, Ghana and the United States their three opponents in Group E.
Couldnt think of anything better for my 200th post :eusa_dance:

Jesus this guy's are such whiner's the only thing they do is cry on the field and of the field, i mean come on they got an easy group(relatively speaking) in Korea-Japan and they fucked up at the Euro`s with the supposed weakest group(oh right Denmark and Sweden had an arrangement X'C ) Pure nonsense. If anybody got screwed it was Argentina, for the second straight time they get the hardest group of them all (Lionel Messi said some similar comments, but a least he's got some basis) . Stop Crying Italian's and put you're money where you'er mouth is.

Haven't posted in this thread since the draw, so...
This is one shit draw for Holland. I wouldn't want to call it the 'group of death' (the Italy one seems worse, over all), but it's a tough one, for sure.
Also: almost all the pot 1 seeded countries were hoping that they wouldn't get Holland from pot 2... Which means that Holland were sure to end up in the group of death, because basically Holland's presence as the pot 2 team is what essentially [/i]makes[/i] it the 'group of death' in the first place... If you know what I mean.
Anyway: we must beat the Serbs and Ivory Coast, so that the Argentina game doesn't matter anymore. That's the plan.

I'm not so sure you'll get all three points against the Serbs. They are very dangerous. I'm even less sure Argentina will get the three points against them. I have a feeling Argentina-Holland will be a very important game, in which the South Americans will say good bye again, just like in the the WC 2002.ZoefdeHaas schreef:It isn't a "group of death". We'll proll get the game in our hands against SaM and Ivory Coast, so by the time we play Argentina it's reserve V reserve. Not a group death.

There is so much hype about Group C being the group of death, if you ask me I think Group E is the group of death, Ghana are the best African side, USA are no push-overs and the Czechs are pretty strong in general. That would be great if Italy went home early, seeing them cry.......lol :yes:I also hope to be hearing the same complaints and conspiracy theories after Italy are sent home early.

Now that i have had a better look at the group's and studied the teams a little better i think youre right, if you analyze both groups team by team you'll see that they are very similar except for one key point, the oponents they'll be facing after the first round, this is wherre group E gets the extra dificulty, the two teams that make it trough that group will have to play the teams from group F.... Yes Brazil!!!! Can you imagine Italy-Brazil or Czech Republic-Brazil in the second round!!! Damn that's tough, meanwhile the survivors from group C will face the weak group D with Mexico and Portugal as probable opponents.Ayman schreef:There is so much hype about Group C being the group of death, if you ask me I think Group E is the group of death, Ghana are the best African side, USA are no push-overs and the Czechs are pretty strong in general. Can anyone in my motherland shed any further light on this report?
Neeskens lands Socceroos spot
from www.skysports.com
Johan Neeskens has reportedly been appointed as assistant coach to Guus Hiddink in the Australian international setup.
The former NEC Nijmegen coach has widely been expected to take up the role after assisting Hiddink as Holland finished fourth in the 1998 World Cup, and reports in the Dutch media now suggest the deal has been completed.
Neeskens scored in the final of the 1974 World Cup, although Holland ultimately lost to West Germany, and has again been handed the chance to participate on football's biggest stage.
Hiddink's other assistant Graham Arnold has welcomed the appointment of the former Barcelona and Ajax star, insisting there will be plenty of work to do come June.
"Hiddink thinks that we need at least three coaches," said Arnold.
"So I'm not worried that there will be nothing for me to do.
"With South Korea Guus even had four trainers, because it's very hectic at the World Cup."
Neeskens' first role will be to lead the country in qualifying for the Asian Cup, as Hiddink will not be available due to his commitments with club side PSV Eindhoven.
This is the first I have heard of it. Trying to hunt down some further information.
Cheers

No room for Seedorf, Makaay
Reuters
Netherlands coach Marco van Basten has left out experienced duo Clarence Seedorf and Roy Makaay in naming a provisional 33-man World Cup squad for the June finals.
Bayern Munich striker Makaay (pictured), who has scored only 6 goals in 43 appearances for the Dutch side, lost his spot in the squad earlier this season and is no longer considered as back up to first-choice striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Ajax Amsterdam striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the first division's top scorer, gets a place in the squad for the first time.
Van Basten ignored the claims of AC Milan midfielder Seedorf, despite a convincing season for the Italians in Serie A and the Champions League.
The 30-year-old won the last of his 77 caps in Euro 2004 and has not been selected since Van Basten took charge after the finals.
The Dutch squad gather on May 9 for a four-day training camp in Noordwijk. The squad will be trimmed to 23 players by the May 15 deadline.
Netherlands squad:
Goalkeepers: Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax Amsterdam), Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord)
Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (SV Hamburg), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Urby Emanuelson (Ajax Amsterdam), Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ Alkmaar), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Barry Opdam (AZ Alkmaar), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord)
Midfielders: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Philip Cocu (PSV Eindhoven), Edgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur), Nigel de Jong (SV Hamburg), Denny Landzaat (AZ Alkmaar), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax Amsterdam), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax Amsterdam), Rafael van der Vaart (SV Hamburg)
Strikers: Ryan Babel (Ajax Amsterdam), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax Amsterdam), Dirk Kuijt (Feyenoord), Martijn Meerdink (AZ Alkmaar), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven)
=================
So 10 players to go from this squad...lets see
GK: Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord)
Defs: Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord), Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven)
Mids: Edgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur), George Boateng (Middlesbrough)
FW: Martijn Meerdink (AZ Alkmaar), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax Amsterdam)
Man thats tougher than it looks. Not sure about Klaas and with van Basten, you just never know what surprises he will bring up.
Looking at this squad though, I think the next Euro Championships and the following WC are where these guys will shine. (and hopefully in Germany 2006!) :xyxthumbs:

"What do you want me to say?"

Sure, Makaay is in a bit of a dip this season, but he still scored more goals than VofG did, in less matches, and in a better league. So you can hardly say VofG is in the squad based on current form. Or past form either.
Makaay is a world class striker who was never given a chance to prove himself for Holland. It's really been a mystery to me.
With a name like that he should have declared for Ireland or Scotland.
