Re: seedorf
Holland beat Eire in Dec 1995 (Anfield) in the play-off that qualified the winner for Euro '96. Davids was sent home for talking to the press and falling out with team mates (apparently there was a race issue).mick schreef:can someone please tell me about the dutch view of the career of clarence seedorf? i think he is one of the best midfield players i have ever seen. i first saw he and davids play together in the dutch team that beat ireland to reach the euro finals in i think it was '94. why is he not considered for the dutch team now? why was he sent home from the euro finals in england?
Seedorf has done well with his club career, but failed to deliver in an Orange shirt, while at the same time he's got a big mouth, and in some ways represents the worst of the Oranje "self-destruct" culture.
When Van Basten decided to "clean house" I think Seedorf (as with Kluivert) were seen as "the past". Players like Davids and Van Bommel (other potential negative elements) are currently on the edge, and need to perform at club level while making the right noises if they want any chance of going to Germany.....this is relatively new for Dutch players......they are used to mouthing off in the press and getting picked for Holland anyway.....
Good on yer Marco.... :worshippy:

Rafaël van der Vaart
Our man Raffy has become a hero in Hamburg overnight, but Hamburg's recent home game against VfB Stuttgart wasn't exactly the highlight of his career.
Here's what happened.
Stuttgart were 0-1 up a few minutes before the end, so Hamburg's goalkeeper decided to go forward when they got a corner kick, in a desperate attempt to equalize. The ball was headed out of the penalty area by a defender and then Raffy picked it up and decided to pass it all the way back to the Hamburg goalkeeper.
"Ummm... Excuse me Ko, but didn't you just say that the Hamburg goalkeeper was upfront for that corner kick?"
Yes, that is correct... :nooo: :D

What were you thinking, Raffy...?

Yeah, that was quite unreal....I've watched it twice and still can't work out what he is trying to do (or what language the commentary is in - Spanish/Portueguese maybe??)Kowalczyk schreef:

This clip of it is even better - notice at the start of the clip as the goalkeep sprints upfield , VDV actually looks at him going past before he takes the free kick. Even funnier in my opinion is the fact that before passing back towards his own goalmouth is the fact that he looks up at his goalmouth and then passes.
Definitely a blonde moment for Mr VDV

Kluivert back ? Babel and Charisteas out ? :eusa_liar:

Don't know... I just can't believe they're interested in Kluivert... I mean: he's been... shit. For years. Yet, he genuinely can't understand why he's not playing for Holland (he is actually capable of saying that on TV without laughing), so the clubbing hasn't only f*cked up his body, but also his mind...

I don't believe it either and I completely agree with you, Ko. Kluivert was once the ideal striker for the Ajax style of football. Nowadays he's finding it hard to even get on the pitch. Besides, we have Huntelaar, who I think will become a sensation.
For the position of attacking midfielder I'd prefer Sneijder over Kluivert right now and I don't see Kluivert being the right man for the role of mentor either.

Yes, that's quite possibly an entry for this years "understatement of the year competition". Frans is right about class be permanent I think by the way. But on the same score, Cruijff, Hoddle, Platini and many others have class - perhaps we should be signing them? ;)Thomas schreef:I don't believe it either and I completely agree with you, Ko. Obviously you should inform your self more on Kluiverts situation, did he say he expected an invitation? No because he himself acknowledged that he was injured to much. But on the other hand he hadn't heared a thing from van Basten not even a call about how things were.
And playing shit, no I don't agree on that either, he has been injured to much but when he played the last couple of years he mostly played well.
But be honest how many games have u seen of Kluivert the last couple of years/months?
Zaakwaarnemers en corruptie gaan hand in hand...
