De fans hebben gesproken. Traditioneel mochten zij via een verkiezing op deze site de starters aanwijzen voor de All*Star Game.
Voor de Noord All*Stars zal in eerste instantie Darnell Hinson van Landstede de bal opbrengen en hij staat bij het begin in het veld met Travis Reed van MPC, Teddy Gipson (Demon) en Kees Akerboom van MPC. Vijfde man zou Joe Spinks zijn, maar de Demon-speler heeft nog last van zijn knie, zal hopelijk rond de All*Star Game zijn rentree maken. Een optreden in Rotterdam zit er echter niet in. Coach Herman van den Belt mag daarom een andere forward aanwijzen als starter.
Randy Wiel kan als coach van Zuid twee van zijn eigen spelers aan de wedstrijd laten beginnen. Leon Rodgers was natuurlijk een zekerheidje en hij heeft gezelschap van zijn schutter Gert Kullamae. Het spel wordt opgezet door Vincent Krieger van Rotterdam, misschien een wat verrassende keuze, maar een duidelijke waardering voor de international. Hij kan in de basis onder anderen zijn ploeggenoot Joshua Helm aanspelen, maar ook Chris Woods, de topscorer van Upstairs is een optie.

ESPNWade takes over game, rallies Heat past Pistons in Miami
MIAMI (AP) -- Dwyane Wade led the comeback and then the celebration, skipping along the sideline and high-fiving jubilant fans.
The Miami Heat finally showed they can beat the elite, especially when they have Wade as a weapon. He scored the Heat's last 17 points, including the game-winner on a 16-footer with 2.3 seconds left, and they edged the Detroit Pistons 100-98 Sunday.
Touted before the season as title contenders, the Heat improved to 1-7 against the NBA's four top teams. But they needed a frantic rally to do it.
Miami trailed 90-83 with 4½ minutes left when Wade took over. His 17 consecutive points were a franchise record, and he finished with 37.
"It was a lot of fun," he said. "It was time for me. I had to come through and help this team win. I put it on my shoulders at the end to make some plays."
Wade sank his final seven shots and scored 28 points in the second half.
"Dwyane took the game over," Detroit coach Flip Saunders said. "He got a lot of shots up, and we couldn't get any help over."
Shaquille O'Neal kept the Heat in the game early and finished with a season-high 31 points.
"It was a big win," O'Neal said. "We could have let it slip away, but we kept on fighting. Now we have to develop some type of consistency. Anybody can win one game. We have to do that night in and night out."
Chauncey Billups had 29 points and 10 assists for the Pistons. They've lost three of their past five games but still have the NBA's best record at 41-9.
"The Heat might look at this as being bigger than it really is," Billups said. "It's just another win. But they have struggled against teams with better records, so beating the team with the No. 1 record is a big win for them."
After Wade's basket with 55 seconds left made the score 98-all, Detroit missed twice, and the Heat regained possession with 25 seconds to go.
Wade walked the ball up court, letting the clock run down. He then darted to the left against Tayshaun Prince, pulled up and hit a jumper.
The Pistons' inbounds play following a timeout went awry, and Prince launched a 3-point try after the buzzer that missed. Detroit went 5-for-15 in the fourth quarter, scoring only 14 points.
"We just missed shots, and the young boy hit his shots -- that's all," Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace said. "It was a good game. It was what the people wanted, and we supplied it."
The Heat overcame an 84-71 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, making the comeback their largest this season. Making the win even sweeter: Detroit beat Miami in seven games a year ago in the Eastern Conference finals.
Richard Hamilton scored 25 points and Wallace 21 for the Pistons.
With the onus on the Heat to score a breakthrough win, coach Pat Riley tried to ease the mood before the game, dancing to Doobie Brothers music in the locker room.
"He did a great job getting us to lighten up and have a smile," Wade said. "Coach has got a little rhythm -- I didn't know he could move like that. It made us think about something else besides playing the best team in the league."
The Heat repeatedly pounded the ball early to O'Neal in the low post. He had 21 points at halftime, his high for any half this season, showing he can still be a dominant force.
"I still can be and still am," he said. "You give me the shots and call my plays, I'll be there every time."
But foul trouble limited O'Neal to 17 minutes in the second half, and with time running out on the Heat, Wade took over.
The Pistons failed to score on their first seven possessions of the final quarter, allowing Miami to cut its deficit to five.
Wade split two defenders to sink a reverse layup, drawing a foul that sent him skidding along the baseline. He made the free throw to cut the margin to 90-88 with 3:45 left.
Wade then made a steal and hit two more free throws to tie the score.
Detroit quickly regained the lead on Billups' 3-pointer, and his jumper made it 98-94. But Wade scored on consecutive possessions, his baskets sandwiched around a steal by Gary Payton.
"This win is important for our confidence," Wade said. "Any game where we're down, we can always look back to this game and know that we did it against a good team and can pull it out."
Game notes
Billups' double-double was his 15th this season. ... The Heat have 0-2 records against Dallas, Phoenix and San Antonio, the top teams in the Western Conference. ... It was the sixth time two Heat players have scored 30 more points, and the third time O'Neal and Wade have done it. ... Wade's first basket was a highlight-reel effort: He caught an alley-oop pass from Jason Williams and spun 180 degrees in the air for a layup.

NOSOranje-heren stuiten op Engeland
De Nederlandse heren moeten het in de kwalificatiewedstrijden voor het EK in 2007 (B-divisie) opnemen tegen Albanië, Wit-Rusland, Slowakije en Engeland. Op 3 september begint Oranje de serie met een uitwedstrijd tegen Wit-Rusland.
De dames werden gekoppeld aan IJsland, Noorwegen en Ierland. Op 9 september is het eerste duel. Nederland speelt dan thuis tegen IJsland.

Een best out of seven series geeft de underdogs weinig kans om voor een stunt te zorgen.

Two Western Conference players are also making their initial All-Star appearance as center Pau Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies and guard Tony Parker of the 2005 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs have each been invited to Houston. Also named to the Western Conference All-Star team are guard Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics and forwards Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks, Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers, Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns.
The 14 players selected -- seven each from the Eastern and Western Conferences -- were chosen by the 30 NBA head coaches, who were asked to vote for seven players in their respective conferences -- two guards, two forwards, one center and two players regardless of position. They were not permitted to vote for players from their own team.
Previously selected as starters for the East through the 2006 NBA All-Star Balloting Program were Cleveland’s LeBron James, Indiana’s Jermaine O'Neal, Miami’s Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade and Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson. Houston’s Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, Phoenix’s Steve Nash and San Antonio’s Tim Duncan will start for the West.
The 2005-06 Pistons joins the Celtics (1952-53, 1961-62 and 1974-75), L.A. Lakers (1961-62 and 1997-98) and Philadelphia 76ers (1982-83) as the only teams in All-Star Game history to have four players selected to play in an single All-Star Game.
The selections of Gasol (Spain), Nowitzki (Germany) and Parker (France) along with voted-starters Duncan (U.S. Virgin Islands), Nash (Canada) and Yao (China), gives the 2006 NBA All-Star Game a record-tying six international players in one year. The 2003, 2004 and 2005 NBA All-Star Games each featured six international players on the rosters.
Should any player be unable to participate in the All-Star Game due to injury, NBA Commissioner David Stern will select the replacement.

This year's All-Stars will be outfitted in new uniforms from Reebok which were inspired by the exploration of space and the Texas state flag. As has become tradition, the East will be the road team wearing predominantly royal blue uniforms accented with red and silver, while the West will be the home team wearing white uniforms with red as the featured color and royal and gold accents. The NBA logo on the jersey has been enhanced with the All-Star version and the player's team is represented with the team logo on the center back neck of the jersey.
NBA.com will provide basketball fans with the opportunity to have their vote count towards selecting the MVP of the 55th NBA All-Star Game, as a part of the site's exclusive 2006 NBA All-Star coverage.

Milicic heeft helaas nooit zijn belofte in kunnen lossen. Was ooit zelfs 2e keuze in de draft! Werd altijd als een groot talent gezien. Vergelijkbaar met Nenad Krstic van de Nets die overigens wel zijn belofte aan het inlossen is. In de persoon van Zoran Planinic (Nets)en Aleksandar Pavlovic (Cavs) lopen er in de NBA nog meer lange, jonge mannen uit voormalig Joegoslavië rond. Bij Orlando zal Milicic waarschijnlijk meer aan spelen toekomen. Zal de concurrentie aan moeten gaan met Tony Battie en Dwight Howard en de Kroaat Mario Kasun.

Altijd wel lachen met die voetballers. Krijg je opeens scores van 7-6. De topverdedigers kunnen opeens niet zo goed meer verdedigen. ;)
