I note we are signing Perez in the summer for 3m euros. At least he will only be celebrating his 32 Birthday in August.

I believe we have created a world record with signing Stam. A record transfer for a 34 year old. No I am not taking the piss but I cannot think of anyone of that age ever costing that much.Given that he must be on about 3m euros a season in wages he is going to cost us a fortune!! Still we can sell Babel to pay for him.

The expense for Perez and Stam are hugh as they are both short term signings given their age.

I see Grygera is shown by someone above as a defender for next season. I very much doubt he will be here!! Juventus are evidently interested in him and I doubt they will pay much more than we are paying for Stam.

PS If we were getting Stam today and getting 1m euros for Maxwell then I would not be so pissed off. At this moment , with Stam in the side, we could still go and win the playoffs but next season we will be in the UEFA Cup and our income from Europe will be down by millions. The club may then have to sell Sneijder.

I mixed my German and English in a pot and tried to decipher what was being said on the Dutch part of AT about Perez. I could gather that Perez is being called a judas by the AZ fans? Is this correct? Why? Any thoughts?

It's not a done deal yet, as written on Ajax.nl :
Ajax and AZ have reached an agreement in principle, but need to work out some further details
Meanwhile, AZ.nl have published a news in which they say they haven't reached an agreement with us yet, and that they will confirm it when it will be finalised. They also say they're unhappy with the way Ajax behaved : Ajax announced the news just before AZ - MVV (3-0 at the moment)... ;)

Anyway, I published the news on my website, this is official :D :headbang:

As long as the next two signings aren't Dean Gorré and Tom Sier...

A good #10 would be nice.

With any luck, Stam will put a rocket up Stekelenburg.

PSV: Stam was te duur

According to Hiddink, they were interested in Stam but did not sign him because he was too expensive ….
Would it be that we are buying too high just as we are selling too low ?

Ofcourse one would sooner believe the manager of the competition whose fans are crying wolfe because 'their' Jaap Stam signed with their hated rivals...
Apart from that, PSV lack transfer funds, have serious financial difficulties and I presume that since Jaap Stam is too old for a second career in England, so PSV's mothercompany Chelsea INC. didn't want to fork out the cash.

Shame on our board for assigning Van Geel (who has done a fantastic job so far), contrary to Van Gaal, thanks to whom we now see our talent walk out for nothing or almost nothing. Credit where credit's due.
Try me, I'll make you famous.

Thanks, Cedric.

I'm a bit late this time, because I had to pick up an award yesterday evening... :D

Anyway, the whole Perez drama is now up on Ajax USA as well. The report includes a very interesting interview with Perez. Seems a special guy.

Well, thanks to the fantastic play-off system we are likely to compete for a Champions League berth until the end... Nevertheless, I agree that this is a bit surprising: Stam and Perez are fantastic purchases, but let's look at the present. A taxi van full of players has left, but we did not land anyone we can use now. Which means we will actually have to finish the season with a rather small squad of 20 outfield players plus a few newbies from Young Ajax. That's not a lot. Two or three injuries and we'll have a serious problem, especially for big games.

Christian Wilhelmsson, now that FINALLY would be a decent signing.

It's about time.

Wilhelmsson would indeed be a great signing. He would bring a great deal of speed to the attack, and he can both cross and shoot, as well as beat his man.

But he is not cheap. We'll really have to open our wallet to get him.

EDIT: That he'd like to come to Holland and Ajax was a big surprise for me. He's not that young anymore, and I thought he wanted to move to one of the big three...

Is Ajax no longer interested in Julian Jenner? I know he signed a contract extension early last year, but he would probably be no more expensive than Wilhelmsson.

Todays headlines suggest Stam has a get out clause after 1 year.

Great, we pay 3m euros and he can leave one year later for nothing.

PS Press seem to suggest that Milan have used this transfer to try and tap up Sneijder!!!!

Yep, I totally agree with u... I mean they both have quality, but come on, 3 millions for Staam and not even get him now is stupid in my opinion. Your predictment about Sneijder is very possible in my opinion as well... No Champions League, no money :redcard: (I hope this wont happen, though)

Let's hope against a team liek Inter we can get the resources needed to buy good players, such as Jenner. He is notoriously expensive though, around 5.3m demanding or so I heard.

If there's really an escape clause you can bet there's some small print to take care of the financial unpleasantries of a premature goodbye.

Can I just say that I am not moaning about signing Stam. I think he is just what we need BUT no other club in the World would pay 3m euros for a 34 year old who could then leave after 1 year.It would not happen in England where clubs are awash with money.
However if we end up in the Champions League at the end of his first year at least the money will be recouped.

I just think we have a different policy on transfers to other clubs in Europe !!

Sorry for being so late to the dance, illness don'tcha know, but can I just say I'm STOKED about the Stam signing. He is good against the opposition aerial threat, adds leadership , and is an aerial threat from dead balls in our favour. Also, Kenneth Perez adds pace and elusivity to our front line.I like that he has played in big games, witness AZ's league form and UEFA campaigns, and is a proven commodity.

I really think we finally have a shot at Wilhelmsson. The moves made show him a level of seriousness on Ajax part. Seriousness about turning "CLUSTER***'s R US" around . Ajax, for their part , must realize that a debacle ,as this year has been, is bad for business. So ,spend the cash now and see a reward down the road.Plus, the wings aren't exactly talent rich these days.

I think it was more to do with the fact that Milan are still in the champions league and did not have a quality defender ready to replace him. Maybe Ajax could learn from this.
