Julien Escudé

I have to be honest here: in the first year and maybe part of his second year I really thought that Escudé just had a lack of quality for Ajax. He's slow -- which is on itself not the worst if he could compensate it with tactical skills, but that wasn't always the case either.
Later he played some decent games and I thought he was a good match with Grygera in the center of our defense. And it seemed that he grew to a higher level as well.
Especially now the defense is so poor I don't understand why they let this guy go.

Its a good thing that he has gone, we already have good central defenders in Grygera, Vermaelen and Heitinga, YES! heitinga, he is a good player and he will do well this season, all we need now is another left footed centre back, I say we go for Hengaaland of Norway or Arnold Kruyswijk of Groningen, they are 20 and 21 respectively. What do you guys think?

and I think the left footed defender is not arriving from a transfer move, but from our youth development: mr robbert schilder...
so in defense I suspect that Ajax will go (at least I hope so..) for a right back, maybe good also for playing CB..years ago there were rumours about Alcides, Benfica and former Schalke 04..who knows...

Well, you also felt very sorry when Bergdolmo left. And he turned out to be disgracefully bad at Dortmund.
The few times I saw Escude play for Young Ajax he was terrible. Certainly didn't look like he was 100% fit, or that he'd ever become so again.
Good deal for Ajax. This guy won't make the grade at Seville either.

I couldn't have put it better myself....the Escude/Heitinga comparison really shows how ridiculous things have got.ozzerdibazio schreef:what a disgrace. I dont understand how this can be justified, when somebody like Heitinga is making the starting lineup. Escude was a very good defender and a very good person. A real proffessional, and i thought a long term captain. Abysmal. I genuinely want Blind out, he just annoys me.

Jeeesuuuuus!!!!! you would think we had chosen to dispense with Blind at his best in order to keep Hans Werdekker.Manneken Pis schreef:I couldn't have put it better myself....the Escude/Heitinga comparison really shows how ridiculous things have got.ozzerdibazio schreef:what a disgrace. I understand what your saying DWS, but the fact is Escude is better than Heitinga. He was our best player last season and looking likely for a call up to the french national team. After one bad game against Feyenoord he is gone. Blind has been in the Job for a year, and in my opinion he is the wrong man. There is no way he or anybody can Justify selling Escude. I accept Julien isnt a danny Blind "how ironic" but he cant justify selling him. I just think it's a real shame. It annoys me as well about Charisteas, as soon as he is coming good, he is told he is surplus to requirements. Why? Personally i think he's better than Rosenberg.
Escude has certainly shown better form than Heitinga, but neither player is of the quality that Ajax requires.ozzerdibazio schreef:I understand what your saying DWS, but the fact is Escude is better than Heitinga. Unfortunately Hangeland has already signed up with FC Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee. I guess its around 1,3 million Euro, though.Ayman schreef:Its a good thing that he has gone, we already have good central defenders in Grygera, Vermaelen and Heitinga, YES! heitinga, he is a good player and he will do well this season, all we need now is another left footed centre back, I say we go for Hengaaland of Norway or Arnold Kruyswijk of Groningen, they are 20 and 21 respectively. A little bit of a sad moment, people... The last Escudé discussion seems to have died down, so I will close this thread. If you have anything to say about Escudé, or if you want to update your fellow Ajax fans on his achievements with Sevilla, please do it in the Former Ajax Players thread.
