Interesting, I see that you probably know the French history better than me. I will check this out. However, the Army which led terror in 1793 was refered to as "les bleus". Nothing to do with the guys who won a trophy in 1998 though.

Plus the colors of the republicans were blue and red, since they were wearing red phrygian hats and tricolors pants.

right now, i could kiss martin van geel!!!
from de telegraaf

"Na een paar jaar moet je wel een vaste basisspeler zijn, maar Nourdin kan die laatste stap niet maken. Hij is al eens een jaar verhuurd en een keer teruggezet naar het tweede elftal. We hadden een punt bereikt dat er iets doorbroken moest worden."

"After a few years, one must become a solid regular, but Nourdin can not make the last step. He has already been loaned out and was dropped to the second team on one occasion. We have reached the point where something had to give."

Only point re Boukhari is that Blind rates him but Ajax have decided to give him the boot. Who made the decision ,did Blind have any input??

As Blind still thought he was one of his best 11 until Sunday will he keep picking him ??

Would probably be best if he could get a new club before the end of the month.

Mind you if every player who wants to leave or we want to leave got fixed up by the end of the month we would be down to about 14 fit players .

Van Geel is scoring some easy points with the supporters there. I think this particular tactic is known as "kicking somebody when they are down," and publicly, for that matter. It's no way to run a football club.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree with all who say that Boukhari shouldn't be treated the way he is treated by his own fans, but surely letting him go is the right move. How would you propose do do this differently? I'm not asking to pick a fight, I just want to know what the best alternative, if any, is. If Boukhari can't make it at Ajax, he should be allowed to find work elsewhere.

Given the very recent disgraceful treatment of Boukhari: maybe Bryan finds it a somewhat distasteful action by Van Geel to make such a disclosure to the press.

bottom line: it is the correct decision

Boukhari was never good enough for Ajax and had to go.No one disputes that fact, however Ajax could have handled this matter better.

For all Van Geel's comments i am suspicious, given the timing, that Ajax have played to the gallery. I would feel much happier if I could be convinced the grounds for said decision were based on Boukhari's merits as a footballer. If Ajax needs the supporters to state the obvious we as supporters should be seriously concerned.

What's distasteful about his statement? They have decided to not renew Boukhari's contract. The press ask him: why not? And he gives this answer: he's been here for a few years now, he has not become a starter and now it's time to take a decision.

I don't really see the problem. Pretty respectful, I would say. You can't make it any nicer than that, can you?

1- from the current squad : is Boukhari the only player not to be "good enough for Ajax" ? Yes ? Are you sure ?
2-in my opinion, supporters should show respect to any player who does is best and is committed to the club, even those who think he should leave : he is part of Ajax

Boukhari is nothing but a scapegoat. It's a shame for Ajax.

Very difficult to continue to show respect to a player who constantly doesnot deliver the goods and never will. I personally don't blame the player as he is never going to turn around to the coach and say don't play me as I am not up to it. The coach should never have included him.

Having said that, I will put my hand up and say I was one of those in the ground on Sunday that shouted abuse at the guy - I pay my money to Ajax, the train company, and Easyjet, get up at 04:30am in the morning to travel to the game, don't get home till nearly midnight - I think that I have earnt the right to have a go when he plays a big part in trying to ruin my day.

Of course he's not the only one. There are more. And for many months now Ajax have been in the process of offloading those players: Sikora, Soetaers, Sonck, Yakubu, Obodai, now Boukhari and there will be no new deals for Vonk (good enough, but aging) and Anastasiou either. I hope they will sell Heitinga as well, but I don't think they will.

In every single case the technical director will have to answer questions from the press. All he can do is explain, with as much respect as possible, why Ajax decided to part ways with these players. Which is what he did in this case. It is unfair to accuse Van Geel of 'kicking someone who's already on the ground'. What else should he have answered when the press asked him about Boukhari? "No comment"...?

In fact I had in mind some of the supporters.
About the Ajax staff, how can they explain that Boukhari played almost every game since the beginning of the season if he's not good enough?
How many topclass players do we have ? 2, 3 or 4 ?
It's not Boukhari who is "crap" but the way the club is managed. Sickening.

I think I can see what Bryan is getting at. It seems obvious that Boukhari is something of a favourite of Blind and is still very much a current first eleven pick (in the first team the day before), and then Van Geel anounces this to the press.......agreed, not really disrespectful at all to Boukhari who now has more chance to find a new club as he is publicly available. but if I were Blind, I'd be a bit more worried than the night before.

Yeah. That's very true. I am starting to believe that Van Geel is not much of a fan of Blind's. And I can't blame him, I must say.

I think that deep down Van Geel would want to replace Blind with a more powerful leader.

Given what happened at the weekend they could have waited a little while longer before making it known to the press that Boukari's contract would not be renewed. It is the timing of the statement\decision i find problematic.

Why was he deemed good enough to play Sunday and then deemed surplus to requirements immediately afterwards? This is what gives the impression that Ajax have played to the gallery. Ajax need to present themselves in a better light. The way to do this is to start acting proactively and not reactively. If they had pushed Boukhari out the door when thy should have none of this would have happened.

Instead of saying this, he could just say "we have decided not to renew his contract."

There's no need for him to publicly analyse the player, that kind of stuff should stay within the four walls of the changing room. I think, in general, too much stuff like this comes into the open at Ajax, and it's not good for team morale.

gosh, what a fuss over nothing... and yet it seemed like it would literally kill everyone to show rosenberg a little support when he arrived and needed time to adjust

van geel already announced that he would make a decision on grygera and boukhari by feb 1 - he was asked, and he gave his answer (and please let's not forget, the correct answer)

so he does the right thing, does his job and does what he says he will do... but he's a boogeyman for it? and the evidence is because he gave the news after boukhari played a bad game and was whistled by the fans?

yeah... so when IS he supposed to give the news then? wait for a good boukhari game where the fans lavish him with roses and roast pig?

Well if we let Boukhari, De Jong, Vonk, Anastasiou, Charisteas, Escude already left, plus you want Heitinga to go, Piennar, Trabelsi, Maxwell, if I am not mistaken these are 10 players. That means a whole new team for the 06/07 season. And a team that will last how much? not more than a couple of years? What is it with us? No Cl money next year, maybe getting an UEFA cup would reboost the morale but with a whole new team it sounds unrealistic.
May the Force be with you
