Well. Machlas was not known for his great goal scoring. He only did this in one season, but not in the seasons before that (and unfortunately not in the seasons after...).

Huntelaar was known for his great goal scoring in the youth of psv and at the age of 19/20 or so he became the topscorer of the first division, playing at a minor team. After his move to Heerenveen he prooved that his goals were no luck, since he scored again a lot of goals in his first real season and a year later he is on top of the scorer ranking again! And again not playing for the best team of the league.

So this guy has proven that he can score easily. Thát makes the difference to Machlas. And to Charisteas. And to Rosenberg.

Besides: Huntelaar is not the type of player that needs a 4-4-2 system. He is very skillful on a couple of square meters. So I am happy with this deal.

We still have to give him some time, but we will be thankful for this deal!

Machlas was/is a somewhat immobile central striker; Huntelaar is very dynamic ... much more a classic Ajax central striker.

8m euros, lets hope this guy is worth it and makes our guns fire. Wonder how Rosenberg would fit in with him, seeing how he's in good shape. Charisteas, well hes been playing pretty well but he has somewhat a reputation with Blind, so I dont think hell last long.

A real goal poacher. Hallelujah! I love any move that will giving opposing defenses fits. A scoring ace coupled with a large, scoring capable ,space eater ...Rosenberg, or maybe Babel . A scorer whose skills can create space for other attacking options due to the attention he draws. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! A target for the likes of Sneijder or for a winger's cross. If we can find a non-dracula-esque...hates crosses...winger that is.

Adios Harry. A serviceable player, but that's all.Get what you can for him.Plus Rosenberg and Babel are younger. I'd sooner see Harry gone than Yannis. I think Anastasiou is a positive attitude team player . Skilled and knows his role. Not a crybaby.

Sky Sports ran a headline tonight, 7pm est, that said Spurs pulled out of a 2.5 mill Vlaar transfer move. Don't know if there's truth in this or not.

How does this sound blind3? I believe it's from the Spurs website.
Tottenham Hotspur have revealed they will not be signing AZ Alkmaar defender Ron Vlaar.
The Holland international appeared set to join the Premiership club after AZ announced they had agreed a fee with Spurs.
AZ had accepted a £2.3 million offer for the centre half, who has also been attracting interest from Dutch giants Ajax. But a move to White Hart Lane now seems to be off the agenda after Spurs boss Martin Jol dismissed the transfer.

Jol confirmed he is aware of the stopper's ability, but insists he does not need Vlaar in his White Hart Lane squad.
With five centre halves already on Spurs' books, Jol questioned the validity of bringing Vlaar to The Premiership.
He also expressed his disappointment with Eredivisie side AZ for leaking Spurs' purported interest in signing Vlaar.

The young defender is keen to leave AZ after losing his place in the team, but it would seem that North London is not his future destination

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Vlaar has a contract till summer 07 in Alkmaar. That would mean AZ is unlikely to release him for free to us, their closest friends, before then.

You're right. He has a conract till 2007. Im quite convinced that Ajax wont try to buy him anymore, which means that Vlaar will stay at AZ this year. It depends on his progression (if he plays...) if clubs like Ajax are willing to pay for him at the end of the season.

Imo, it is nice to buy him, but only for a cheap price. He is still very young and unexperienced. So either you pay a little bit of money, or you just save your money for a real experienced defender. Stam?

I actually can't wait to see this Klaas in action. Hardly a revelation I know but the one thing we've really missed is a true goalscorer to rival Kuyt/Kalou/Kezman etc etc from recent seasons. This guys actually got a proven track record in Eredivisie as well as opposed to say Sonk who should have been good but wasn't.

Anyway, he rivals Kuyt in more ways than one, a real stunner in the boat-race depaprtment :D *

(* don't say you don't learn anything on here - rhyming slang - boat-race = face - geddit?)

MERRY CHRISTMAS (again). I'm actually quite gutted, went out for a drink after work Thursday night, one too many and came in late and managed to only tape the first half of Roda v Ajax from Channel 5... X'C

SE AJACIED

Just to point out that channel 5 repeat the game on Monday 2nd JAN at 4.45 in the morning. It was actually NAC and not Roda.

PS Sorry this is not in the correct posting.

Pleased to see we are signing a proper goalscorer.

As for Vlaar I would not be surprised to still see us sign him . AZ are just trying to get as much money as possible for him and probably invented the Spuirs story just to get the amount higher.

Hi SPL, Yes, you're right, I don't know why I typed Roda (probably still hung over from Thursday  ).

Anyway, you're right, wouldn't normally be such a cause of gloom but as Sunday is Xmas day, they're not showing the repeat this week.

How does it work, is Klaas Jan Huntelaar allowed to play in Champions League for Ajax? He has played a couple of matches with Herenveen in UEFA-cup, but I am not sure whether he can play in CL or not.

Edit: I got the answer in another thread, no worry then :D

I dont think Huntelaar will be elegible to play in the champions league. But hey we can use him in the league since that is more important, because I think the chances of us winning the champions league is minimal.
All we need now is Landzaat at the end of the season and Kromkamp on loan and hopefully convince him to stay for a couple of seasons at Ajax, then we are on the brink of 'knowing what might be'.

P.S one thing is for sure Vlaar will come to Ajax (Player Power, contracts dont mean shit these days) :eusa_dance:

Yes, unfortunately we have to deny your statement... blame on him

But I agree with you, now we have to go for landzaat and krompkamp (or vandenborrè, although both don't seem to be enthusiastic to join ajax).

FEYENOORD SIGN RON VLAAR
International Ron Vlaar will join Feyenoord 1 January. The AZ defender passed a medical in Rotterdam Wednesday afternoon before putting his signature to a contract that will keep him at De Kuip for the next three and a half years. The 20 year old has made his name in the Eredivisie and on the international scene over the past year, and is now felt to be one of the hottest defensive talents in Holland.

The move ends a period of ambiguity about the future of the youngster, who found himself on the sidelines at AZ under Louis van Gaal after a good start. He was seen in England earlier in the week where he, his father and his agent spoke with Tottenham Hotspur. The English side were interested in the defender, but Vlaar ultimately opted for Feyenoord. ‘And I am very pleased with that. It was also my preference to play for a big Dutch club. So when Feyenoord called I didn’t really have to think for too long,’ says Vlaar, who has already spoke to his new coach Erwin Koeman by phone. ‘He explained a few things about how things are in Rotterdam and his way of working. That was very instructive. We talked indirectly about my position in the squad. I thought that was great, because I realise I have to show what I can do from day one in Rotterdam.’

Vlaar has already fielded calls from a number of new team-mates over the past few days. ‘Dirk Kuyt rang me and told me about Feyenoord. Patrick Lodewijks left me a voicemail later in the week. I really appreciated that. It gave me the feeling that I am welcome in Rotterdam and that was very nice. After a period in which I was faced with other things than football it is now nice to know where I’m going. I can hardly wait until the first training session.’

The transfer of Huntelaar is complete, and will begin his first training on Jan 8th with the Amsterdam outfit. It is believed to be about 9m euros for the striker, and his contract will run from 1 Jan 2006-30 June 2010. DB has expressed his delight and trust in Huntelaar.
