I'm not sure about Foe, but Terry Yorath's son Daniel, a youth player with Leeds Utd, died of SDS aged 15.

Next weekend is F-word vs Pee-SV, by the way (in Rotterdam).

Not that we have anything to do with the top of the table, but I thought you'd want to know...

PSV will piss it, is my prediction.

Remarkable... NEC head-coach Cees Lok resigned today. Very strange, because they are doing exceptionally well so far. They were 4th until this weekend and 5th at the moment, right behind Ajax. Lok had a conflict with the NEC board, but no-one really expected it was this serious. He informed the players just before their Christmas reception at the ground.

Anyway: good for us, some internal unrest at one of our direct pursuers... :D

My "other club," besides Ajax, is Southampton in England. Southampton is currently without a permanent manager.

Media reports over the last couple days in both England and Holland (or so I've been told) state that Feyenoord technical director Mark Wotte is the leading candidate for the job. I considered these stories to be rumors and didn't give them too much of my attention. But today, Feyenoord officially announced that they are releasing Wotte, effective immediately, so that he can pursue other opportunities. Interesting.

Does anyone know anything about this development at F-word?

Brace yourself,... Wotte sucks! :D

Nothing is definite though, they are still talking.

By the way, why on earth did they approach Wotte? Maybe because Jol's doing ok at Spurs?

I don't really know much at all about Wotte (only that he has a so-so record as a manager... nothing great, nothing terrible)... does he really suck?? Why? What's his style like, etc.?

The other Dutch (ex)manager that has been interviewed for the Southampton job is Willem van Hanegem (currently working in television?). Any thoughts on him as manager?

(Ko, let me know if this should be in the "general discussion" thread rather than here in the "other clubs" thread.)

Wotte, for what I can remember.

Likes discipline. Always liked the way Van Gaal approached his players. Doesn't care for players with long hair, earrings etc. Never had any particulair tactical system in mind(expect to see a 442) and his teams(like Den Haag, Utrecht) didn't play very attractive football. Nor does he seem to make players better. His time at the KNVB didn't have any highlights that I remember. He's very serious in the media although his media presentation is a field where he's definitely grown in over the past few years. Overall he's a pretty average guy and I suppose to say he truly sucks is a bit harsh.

Overall that I don't really see how he'll be an extra value for The Saints. But who am I to say it can't be a success...

Van Hanegem on the other hand is a type on his own. Very colorful. Full of humor, lots of football knowhow and a coach who expects professional players to act like pros without using a lot of discipline. He's got as much football experience in one toe as Wotte has in his entire body. He can make players better, I think. Van Hanegem works more like Ernst Happel always did. He's definitely a lot less serious then Wotte. His media presentation is pretty strange.

I'd go for Van Hanegem but he's no guarantee for succes either. He'll probably be much more expensive.

Thanks for your thoughts, Dubbel!

I don't know a lot about either one of these guys, except for what I read in articles, so it's nice to get some insight from people that have a closer perspective of these managers, their histories, their styles, etc.

Tying into the above comments of the last couple days regarding Lok and Wotte, here is the latest:

Apparently Wotte has said he left Feyenoord due to not just a desire to get back to being a manager, but also because of Huntelaar. He strongly wanted to get Huntelaar at F-word, but when the club wouldn't settle on a price to spend and Huntelaar proceeded to agree terms with Ajax instead, that was the last straw for Wotte.

Also, it's now being reported that Lok could be joining Wotte at Southampton. The club is having a board meeting tomorrow, and a press conference is scheduled for Friday, where it's expected that Wotte will be named manager, and the rumors are that Lok might be named his assistant at the same time.

Surprise, surprise! Turns out that Lok has unilaterally ended his contract at Nijmegen(NEC) last tuesday because of a sudden 'difference of opinion' with the way that NEC is being run. Perhaps you already knew that but it is news to me. If this is just an excuse to be able to make an easy switch to Southampton then I've got little respect for the guy because for then he is feeding the NEC fans a load of crap!

EDIT: no Dutch coaches for Southampton? And Holland has two more unemployed coaches. :D

Soooo, all that talk about Lok, Wotte, and Southampton... umm, yeah, never mind.

It was a bit of a smokescreen, a false alarm, and basically, I'm sure it was a case of the media seeing Lok and Wotte leave their positions, seeing Southampton's chairman in Holland last week, and adding two and two together to equal five.

Anyway, Southampton today announced the appointment of George Burley, who has been out of management for two months after surprisingly taking Hearts to the top of the Scottish table and then resigning in October.

FC Twente drew 1:1 at Lightbulbs 'r Us tonight. Twente actually led until Cocu equalised on 69. Seems like Twente is something of a bogey side for the Pees.

Let's go Ajax.Time to take advantage. I doubt Willem II will do anything except get beat at F-word, but one good result is enough.

Exactly. A win tomorrow would cap off an extreme;y good month of December for Ajax. It's only weeks ago that PSV were 14 points ahead. Then they lost a game, so that three teams (PSV, F-Word and AZ) were 11 points ahead of Ajax.

If we win tomorrow we are 9 points behind the leaders (PSV) and 8 points behind F-Word and AZ. Still a serious deficit, of course, but I never thought we could close in this much in one month's time.

Obviously though, we'll need to win tomorrow. Which won't be easy. Heerenveen away... Out of the last five editions: one win, one draw, three defeats (including 5-1 and 4-1 defeats...).

Come on Ajax!! Do you smell what I smell...? I smell BLOOD!!!

It shows what an opportunistic little brat this kid is, but otherwise I don't realy care about it. When I first read that Ajax were after him, I thought: talented kid, good defender, but he's played like 6 games for AZ and he's very young. If we can sign him on the cheap; fine with me. But we shouldn't pay more than 1.5 million for him.

Ajax reportedly offered 1 million. AZ turned it down. F-Word now paid 3 million, which is a lot of money for them (much more than it would be for us). He's not worth that, if you ask me.

Michael Ball was the only Englishman to play in the Eredivisie for only a couple of days... Today, NEC announced that they have landed David Jones on loan for one year. Jones comes from Man Utd and is a U-21 international for England.

He also has the same name as David Bowie, but that's irrelevant, I guess... :D

NEC... So he will probably play against Ajax on Sunday.

That would be the bloody limit: losing to NEC on a goal by f**king David Bowie...

:D
