RESPECT to AZ and Heerenveen. Absolutely great performances. AZ lost 5-3 in Russia, had an early goal disallowed and then went 0-1 down (what a fantastic bicycle kick, by the way!). They equalized just before the break and the way they turned it around in the second half was impressive. Very, very well done.

As for Heerenveen: their performance was probably even greater. They lost 2-0 at Banik Ostrava (mind you: they are a top side in the Czech Republic), but gave them a good 5-0 stuffing in the return leg. Extremely well done.

Too bad for Willem II. They just had no chance against AS Monaco. They were never even close. Too bad. They can't be blamed.

And finally... Feyenerd: X'D X'D

Im going to add this K...

Halmstad 3-2 Sporting Lisboa, it was an an exciting one, the swedish team had lost the home fixture 2-1, went ahead at the start of the game, Sporting tied the game but then in dramatic fashion at the 93 minute mark(the referee gave 3 minutes) tied the game swedish style(long lob from midfield headed in) then Sporting tied the game in extra time via an own goal, just to be killed by a corner kick goal with five minutes left, last year's runner up has been decimated. Talk about fighting swede's what should per and jakobg say????

On another note looks like there is a Bulgarian revolution in the Uefa Cup, I believe all of their teams made it against in theory stronger oposition, especialy the teams from Sofia, Levski beat Auxerre(the team that kick are butt last year  ) and CSKA Sofia beat Bayer Leverkusen.
BRING IT ON !!!!...

I resent that remark :D

Otherwise, fluke game. Halmstad are a quite poor team this year.

Indeed. They are currently 10th in Allsvenskan, but it's nice to see that one Swedish team can step forward, as the ones who were surposed to be able to make it in Europe this year were total flops.

Who cares? They beat one of the more negative, cynical, whining teams out there. They are to be commended for that. :xyxthumbs:

Tough away games for both F-word and p$v this weekend: feyenerd play at Utrecht and p$v at Heerenveen... If we manage a win at Sparta I think we will close in on at least one of them.

AZ play NEC at home. They will win that one -- no doubt about it. If they somehow drop two points or something, it would be a 'bonus'.

Carcajou schreef:I think we can even leapfrog Feyenoord !!!!
The only ones we can leapfrog are PSV. But to be honest I still consider them to be our #1 competitors for the title. I hope AZ will stay in the race, but I have my doubts (especially for the last - say - ten games of the season). And Feyenoord? They are so shit... it just can't last. They'll collapse sooner or later. We have a better football team than them and I am 100% convinced that this will be reflected by the final table. Period.

By the way: two rather spicy regional derbies in the Eredivisie this weekend...

The first one was RBC Roosendaal vs NAC Breda on Friday night. Always a pretty emotional game (especially for the underdogs, RBC). The key figure in this game was Pierre van Hooydonk, who started his career at RBC but became a 'Judas', a traitor and an opportunist in the eyes of the RBC fans by joining their enemies NAC. After having made some more enemies around the globe (in Nottingham, Glasgow, Rotterdam, Istanbul and other places) Van Hooydonk returned to NAC... and scored the winner in Friday's derby at RBC (from a penalty). I'm sure his popularity in Roosendaal did not increase.

The second emotionally charged derby this weekend is Heracles vs Twente. The last time the derby of Twente was played was in the 1985-1986 season, precisely twenty seasons ago. Heracles were piss-poor that year and got relegated with only twelve points, but 25% of their points were grabbed against neighbours Twente, whom they beat in spectacular fashion in Enschede (0-3) and held to a 0-0 draw in Almelo. There's a big article in de Volkskrant today about John ter Mors, striker of Heracles at the time. He was born in Enschede and was (as a youth player) deemed not good enough by Twente scouts. He ended up at Heracles as a semi-professional: he also had a dayjob as a postman in Enschede, in the neighborhood around Diekman Stadium, where the most fanatical Twente fans live. The weekend before Twente vs Heracles, Heracles got painfully stuffed by Ajax (1-8 in Almelo; 5 goals by Van Basten) and Ter Mors had a terrible Monday morning because all the Twente fans were making fun of him when he delivered their mail the next day. Six days later, however, he scored twice against Twente and delivered the mail with a big fat smile the next morning...

Twenty years later Ter Mors is still a postman in the same neighbourhood and he promised in the paper that he will deliver the mail in a Heracles jersey on Monday if they win again. :D

Great stories. I love it.

As always derbies are more emotional for the underdogs (RBC and Heracles) than for the 'big ones' (NAC and Twente). Both RBC and Heracles feel that the regional media focus on the 'enemy' too much and that they're looked down upon, etc. I guess that's universal...

Van Hooijdonk is sort of a mysterious character to me. When he was here on the island and when you see him on tv, he seems such a nice guy. He's unbelievably friendly to the fans, etc. But then again he's been a troublemaker at just about every club he's played for.

Btw Ko, the 4 points Heracles took from Twente that year meant
33,33333(etc)% of their production, not 25%. ;)

Ha! Old Ko is not crazy!

At the time you got two points for a win and one for a draw. They got 3 points off Twente.

Van Hooijdonk is also one of the best free kick takers I've ever seen -- better than Juninho (though not by much) and possibly as good as Koeman. I once saw a highlight reel of him when he was in Turkey. It was just insane the number of goals he scored from far away off of free kicks.

Wait wait wait.... I think you haven't heard of the recent improvements of Juninho. He used to be damn good at curling the ball but couldn't do it for far away. He's worked a lot on it and has now a devastating power curl strike (like X-Men super attack or something). He's recently scored amazing FKs...

Assunçao from Sevilla is not bad either.

We refuse Arveladze, he scores tons of goal for AZ, we refuse Koné, he does the same for PSV, is it serious ? :nooo:

Did we refused Kuijt and Kalou too ? Oh well, I don't think so, they lost today :D :cheer:

He is actually a very good keeper. Played previously at PSV and Groningen.
I think he played one leg of the semi against Real madrid in '88.

Hmmmm, maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I remember Kone didn't join Ajax after a failed in medical tests. Our board and coaches sasid, that they will try one more time later. And we were just too late... Sad, but true. Anyway, I hope that Rosenberg will be much better and we forget this transfer soon :xyxthumbs: .

UEFA Cup draw

Bericht door Kowalczyk » di okt 04, 2005 1:47 pm

The draw for the UEFA Cup group stage took place today.

AZ are in group D with:
Middlesbrough (Eng)
Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk (Ukr)
Grasshopper Zürich (Swi)
Litex Lovech (Bul)

AZ play Dnipro and Litex Lovech at home and take in Middlesbrough and Grasshopper in away games.

SC Heerenveen are in group F with:
CSKA Moscow (Rus)
Olympique Marseille (Fra)
Levski Sofia (Bul)
Dinamo Bucharest (Rom)

Don't know who they'll be playing at home.

As for F-word: I studied the schedule for a long time but I couldn't find them anywhere... :hypocrite:

Good Draw for AZ .... Heerenveen's advancement depends on which OM turns up on the night: the OM that beat Depo 5:1 or the OM that failed to score in two matches v's Beerschot.

Yep.. AZ at home to Boro.
