Lay off the mighty Oxford . I was born in the city still think it is the most wonderful place on earth and the old Manor unique. For 3 seasons back in the 80's they were in the top league. The old ground was very bad though .
Turning to Brighton I should inform everone that their biggest rivals are Crystal Palace and both sets of supporters hate each other.
Brighton have been waiting for many years for a new stadium and the talk is that approval will be given next week.

Easy, Balompie is the literal translation of Football in spanish, Balon means Ball while Pie means Foot, Spanish speaking country's usually use the English terms only they pronounce and write them in a Spanish way thus Football translate's to Futbol in spanish(Teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid use this style). Fc Barcelona = Futbol Club Barcelona and Real Madrid CF = Real Madrid Club de futbol. Real Betis just uses the exact(and correct by the way) translation. Get it ??? ;)SPL schreef:ODD QUESTION.
I keep seeing the Seville team Real Betis being called Real Betis Balompie.
What does the word Balompie mean or why has it been added???
Can anyone please supply the answer??

Martin van Geel started negotiate new offer with Steven Pienaar. His contract expires at the end of this season, but Ajax wants to sign new deal with him as fast as it's possible.
It should be done very fast, because there is a long list of clubs which want to have him in squad- Valencia, Man City, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica etc. FC Liverpool may try to buy him in nearest transfer window (this winter), but they are ready to pay only 2 mln euro (they said, that he will be out of contract in summer, so it is absolutely right price).
Martin van Geel said, that he is preparing new offers also for our other players, which contracts ends this season (Maxwell, Galasek, Trabelsi, de Jong).

Congrats on 100 posts. I haven't seen the story re Mourinho but if he has done that (which wouldn't surprise me - it's fairly common), all it will mean is that people who make and sell dodgy Mourinho hats/scarfs/books/crap etc. would be breaking a trademark if they used his name. I think his "image" would be much easier to trademark - his long coat or his face etc. The English courts probably won't let him trademark his name (there will be other people with that name) so the dodgy stuff will still exist. It just means he/Chelsea can make and sell "official" memorabilia.AsgAarD_xxx schreef:According to english press Jose Mourinho is a trade mark now. He patented his name in patent office. It means that from this time anyone who wants to have his name on any article must pay him.
PS: It's my 100th post on this forum :eusa_dance:.

It also gives him some protection over his name being used in web addresses (i.e. www. josemourinho .com or whatever). Several celebrities have had to pursue a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in order to keep people from using their name in web addresses (Madonna is a famous example). There is a special branch of WIPO for arbitrating these things.

According to english press, Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger would like to buy Feyenoord player Hossam Ghaly this winter. Ghaly said that he always dreamed about English Premiership and it will be great for him to join to club such as Arsenal.

More on the copywriting your name topic.......
from www.bbc.co.uk
"Fergie 'too famous' for bill ban
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson failed to ban posters bearing his name because he is "too famous," his lawyer said on Friday.
The football manager applied for exclusive rights to the use of his own name on a wide range of goods.
But the Trade Marks Registry rejected part of the application for stickers and posters carrying his image.
His lawyer Alan Fiddes said he would appeal against the decision under the Human Rights Act.
"Our argument is that Sir Alex Ferguson and other famous people are being discriminated against because they are famous," he said.
If we win, Sir Alex would be able to sue someone for trademark infringement if they printed a poster with his name on it
"A non-famous person would be able to trademark their image, but because Sir Alex is already famous he cannot."
Some footballers have successfully trademarked themselves in this area by applying before they became famous such as Joe Cole who did this before he was a West Ham first teamer.
"He clearly had very good advice," Mr Fiddes added.
Non-celebrities find it much easier to prevent the use of their images on posters.
Mr Fiddes said famous people were treated differently because the regulators thought the public would not see the image being featured as an indication of endorsement.
"If we win, Sir Alex would be able to sue someone for trademark infringement if they printed a poster with his name on it," said Mr Fiddes.
"It's another weapon in his armoury for him to stop people exploiting his brand image."
Sir Alex, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, had hoped to get exclusive rights to sell posters and photographs of himself.
But trademark judge Charles Hamilton ruled the manager's name was "devoid of any distinctive character".
Sir Alex is also waiting to hear the outcome of a second bid to benefit from using his name on goods such as jewellery, DVDs, computer games and toy dolls.
If there are no objections, it will go through on 26 November."
So there you go eh!

Arsenal fans are getting a taste of their own medicine, Ref Medina Cantalejo has just given Beckham a :redcard: via two consecutive yellow cards in like 5 minutes time, i guess the ref is not a Real Madrid fan ;). This ref is a real wanker, tough blow for the english on their upcoming duel against the polish.
BRING IT ON !!!!...
I dislike Beckham and cheered like mad when he was sent off. I actually did not think he should have got one yellow let alone 2. ( Good on yer Referee.)
He is the first Englishman to have been sent off twice. Another record for the overrated ponce.
As for England I believe they will actually qualify for the finals later tonight if Marco's Orange Boys beat Czech Rep. (We would be the best runnersup at least if this happens and would not need to beat Poland) Think The Orange will get a draw though.
Only hope for England to win the World Cup is to get rid of Erickson. The mans tactics today were as clueless as usual.Todays game was crap .

The same goes for Sweden. If Holland win tonight, Sweden needs only one point from Croatia - which is no ease task either. But Iceland at home on wednesday will get Sweden to the WC either way.SPL schreef:As for England I believe they will actually qualify for the finals later tonight if Marco's Orange Boys beat Czech Rep. Has anyone seen the Limecat?
And kudos to Holland for beating the Czechs by a 2-0 victory away, making England ready for the finals and Sweden practically ready for the finals away. Even if we lost 1-0 to Croatia away. :D :headbang:jakobg schreef:The same goes for Sweden. If Holland win tonight, Sweden needs only one point from Croatia - which is no ease task either. I cant believe The Netherlands qualified without the usual struggle and self destruction. Congrats to van Basten and the boys for the win AND more importantly the qualification. Bring on 2006!!!
Now only if the Aussies can somehow beat either Uruguay or Colombia in a months time and qualify as well i will be one happy Dan :eusa_pray:
Do we have a post yet for WC06???
