A trip to Azerbaijan and can Ajax possibly pick up even a point? Villareal and Olymiacos are the remaining CL games in January and then this awful campaign will end.

Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
Weghorst, Sutalo and Taylor all out injured along with Mc Connell and Berghuis.Hope the 1st 3 named will be fit for Feyenoord but as for Berghuis and McConnell just hope they leave in January both add nothing and should not be here.
Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
Weghorst out until the winter break, ankle ligament problem. Dolberg is not ready for 90 mins so we have striker problems coming up v Feyenoord and NEC
Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
A decent 45 mins and a lovely goal by Dolberg. Only watched from about 15 min mark as wife has a touch of flu and I have been looking after granddaughter all afternoon so could not just come in and watch the game.
Great he picked Mokio and Steur but he was correct in dropping Bounida for being later. Hope he gets to play the 2nd half.

Ajax worked hard after going down 2-1 and Gloukh showed his class with 2 lovely goals and Gaaei what a shot . Finally 3 points and although a long way to go this season but Grim is turning it around and giving youth a chance. Steur must start ahead of Klassen .
Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
A 2-4 win!! This was the best I've seen the team play this season. So happy to not see a lumbering Weghorst up front.
Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
Agree that was their best this season. Dolberg , when fit ,is a different level to Weghorst.
Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
Darn it, I had to miss the game today. Maybe I'm the talisman of bad luck and shouldn't watch any more matches. Good to finally get a CL win and get out of last place. Good to see that both Steur and Mokio got starts today. They are the future of the Ajax MF!

Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
Half fit Dolberg is much better than Weghorst.
I also thought this lineup worked better, Steur seems to handle the ball ok and is a bit bigger which helps. Itakura was mostly playing as a 3rd CD so Gaaei (and to a lesser extent Rosa) could go forward, so it was more like a lopsided 3-5-2 than a 4-3-3.
Dunno if it would work in the eredivisie, Qarabag were less defensive than a lot of teams we face. Mokio was disappointing again and Moro is useless. Still plenty to puzzle over.

I love the optimism, and a win was very welcome, but we played poorly. For the first 70 minutes Qarabaq had nothing to worry about while creating a few chances themselves and they were pretty much in control of the game. Then, for some unknown reason (tiredness, too confident) they stopped marking and all of the sudden we scored 3 times. While nice goals, they were completely out of the blue. So yeah, happy with the win, but the game itself was not any better than previous ones.

Raymon - this is like the sight of water when you're walking across a desert. Lets enjoy it for what it is and for however fleeting it was. Having said that, we didn't see 20 minutes of good football this season at all before yesterday's game.raymon schreef: do dec 11, 2025 1:50 pm I love the optimism, and a win was very welcome, but we played poorly. We weren’t going to see 20 minutes of good football if Qarabaq would have simply continued the way they played. It wasn’t Ajax who forced the change. But you know, football is weird sometimes. A lucky win can have a massive ripple effect. I’ll take it.

We will see how far along the Grim era is this Sunday. This is an Ajax team that has lots of flaws but somehow managed a draw in Eindhoven.

I love Amol's description like a sight of water when you're walking across a desert . I am not an optimist by nature but 3 wins in a row even though our football isn't much still feels good.
Grim is at least using some youths and Steur certainly needs to get far more minutes.

Re: 10 DEC 2025; Qarabag - Ajax; Champions League
I agree it was still poor but I reckon it was a little better than the game against Fortuna. Dolberg didn’t lose the ball every time he touched it (unlike Weghorst) and at least Steur can make a 2m pass to a player on the same team.
