14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Ajax host fourth place FC Twente on Saturday. The team from Enschede are only a point behind Ajax. Lots of players out with the flu and it is really not clear who will be healthy to play.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Key players were back in practice today: Kudus, Alvarez, Timber, Bergwijn, & Berghuis. Whether they can play 90 minutes after being hit with the flu is uncertain.

Rensch loses an one-on-one fight. He is the last man standing… red card.

Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
yup that’s a red card, clear pull on vW. don’t even understand why he was playing center back today, bassey is on the wing, absolutely bizarre
Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Having to give up ,no links working and with 10 men looks like we could lose.
Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
embarrassingly bad even with 11 players on the field. bassey and sanchez are absolutely weak links. bet the club would love to have schuurs back.
Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
What a disaster. Ajax should have been down 0-3 within the first 10 minutes. Poor defending and Rulli was saved by the post twice. I hope Rensch is OK, it looks like he got kicked in the head. He was awful putting Rulli in danger with a weak back pass and then getting sent off because of a pull back. It's getting to be time to send him packing as he just doesn't seem to keep concentration during games. Maybe Ajax can snatch a goal in the 2nd half but it's far more likely to see Twente get one.

Ha.. every 2nd tier player from the past years would be 3 times better than Bassey or Sanches.
How much did we pay voor BAssey.

I’d like to know who the genius was that scouted him and how we came up with a valuation of 22 million.GangstaRiB schreef: ↑za jan 14, 2023 10:11 pmHa.. every 2nd tier player from the past years would be 3 times better than Bassey or Sanches.

we lose this game, I cannot see how schreuder stays. the only risk is that the board has already confirmed their confidence in him after all the bad results last fall, so they might not want to lose face.
Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Has to be obvious to everyone by now that these players aren’t good enough.
Sanchez, brought in to replace Rensch but turned out to be worse, so now they’re both playing because there’s no one else to play CD. Taylor starts every game but is PEC Zwolle standard at best. No LB good enough to make the starting 11. And so on.
Happy for them to get rid of Schreuder but I don’t see how it will improve the squad.

Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Well they defended better than any match this season despite being 10 down (I'm ignoring the opening 10 minutes when things were poorly organized). Rulli did not have any difficult shots to save. Ajax had a couple of chances in the 2nd half but Taylor pushed his shot wide and Alvarez's header was too weak. I guess we have to be thankful for the point, though AZ pulled ahead with a win today. Feyenoord can extend their lead to five points with a win tomorrow. The team still has too many holes and I would rather have Schuurs back, to partner with Timber. This was a stupid move by Ajax to let him go, particularly when it became evident that Bassey is not a CB.
Player Ratings:
Rulli (6) - had one dicey play when van Wolfswinkel blocked his kick
Sanchez (6.5) - had a pretty solid 2nd half with a lot of good interventions and even made some decent passes
Timber (7) - maybe the best player on the pitch
Rensch (2) - hope he is Ok, but his game was a disaster from the get go; he has really regressed
Bassey (6) - great athlete but that's about it; this will go down as one of the poorer transfers in Ajax history as he doesn't seem to have much football sense
Alvarez (6.5) - played most to the match as a CB and didn't make any mistakes
Taylor (6) - worked hard all match and had maybe the best chance of the game for Ajax
Klaassen (6.5) - defensively outstanding and of course in a match such as this his offensive imitations were not apparent
Conceicao (6.5) - really put in a good shift until he was exhausted
Brobbey (5.5) - once Ajax were down to 10, not much for Brobbey to do
Tadic (6.5) - played well, holding the ball up when he had the chance and laying the ball off
Kudus (6) - got free a couple of times
Bergwijn (5) - never got a chance in the offensive half
Feyenoord up next weekend and I think that match will make or break the season. Ajax are in a must win situation if they hope to contend for the title

I would only say that Sanchez did a more than decent job defending in the 2nd half. Just want to give credit to him.GangstaRiB schreef: ↑za jan 14, 2023 10:11 pm

Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Defeat at Feyenoord next week must spell the end of Schreuder. Ironically our defence is weak but in 3 games this last week our only goal let in was from an incorrectly given free kick.
PS I just hope I can sort out why i cannot get any streams. Will phone my son later ,he is a computer wizz.I did watch all the U18 game yesterday on Ajax Youtube site.Quick passing ,fast moving football was enjoyable,3-0 win.

Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
Loaning out Kik Perie was a big mistake. He is at least a proper CB whereas Rensch is not.

Re: 14 JAN 2023; Ajax - FC Twente; Match Day 16
That’s because the task became simple: stop Twente. When it’s 11 vs 11, Sanchez needs to play offensive or at least defend with 30 meters of space behind him and then his shortcomings are visible. Same goes for Bassey. Only Bassey is even worse technically.Orange14 schreef: ↑za jan 14, 2023 11:42 pmI would only say that Sanchez did a more than decent job defending in the 2nd half.
