We should've put away a couple of those chances. I see more goals in the 2nd half.

Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
Another good performance I reckon. We really squeezed Juve in the middle of the second half but just couldn't crack it.
Can we score in the return leg???

Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
That was a good display by the boys - with a little bit of luck we could've had one or two more.
Nous back for the return, but we lost Nico.

very entertaining game. all is possible in the 2nd game. we will score in turin. nico suspended, but veltman did well today.
Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
Agreed - Veltman did do pretty well today. We were all thinking of the potential nightmarish scenario with him playing today.
Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
also, netherlands now go past austria in the coefficient ranking
Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
In the end got a superb stream in english in the 2nd half and throughly enjoyed watching us playing flat out attacking football. They lived up to the name of the great Ajax tonight and possibly should have got a couple more.
Still all to play for in Turin ,only moan Ekkelenkamp comes on and tries to play attacking but this is an inexperienced kid who is not that special at Jong Ajax level.Lang is far better. Thought KJH should have come on for the last 10 mins ,Tadic being marked very tightly .

A bittersweet draw tonight with Ajax having the better of the play. I'm surprised that ten Hag didn't bring on Huntelaar with 20 minutes to go since Tadic was having all kinds of difficulties as a hold up player. Defense other than on the Ronaldo goal did enough. Ajax pressure was very good and amazingly the won a lot of balls in the air. There was also some very nice passing inside the box but most of the shots were too tame. Tagliafico with a Yellow Card is suspended for the match next week. I guess the right strategy is to move Veltman inside to partner de Ligt with Blind sliding out to fullback. Neres was the MOTM for Ajax with his overall play. It's going to be an interesting return tie next week and I expect Costa will start for Juve as his speed can cause Ajax real trouble.
Player Ratings:
Onana (7) - had almost nothing to do until the last five minutes when he had to be alert
Tagliafico (6.5) - weird Yellow Card as the match official was late in whistling the foul on Schöne and Tagliafico went in too hard; he will be missed next week
Blind (6.5) - decent enough match defending
de Ligt (7) - strong defensively with a couple of goal saving plays
Veltman (6.5) - yes he was easily beaten by Costa a couple of times but otherwise had a nice match
de Jong (6.5) - had a good match except for letting Ronaldo run right past him on the goal at the end of the first half
Schöne (6.5) - played conservatively and controlled the ball well
van de Beek (6.5) - had some good play in side the box
Neres (7.5) - solid enough match with a goal and some good passing
Tadic (6) - overmatched by Rugani and Bonucci but still managed to make some good interior passes
Ziyech (5.5) - had one very strong shot on frame that was well saved and that was all
Ekkelenkamp (5.5) - surprising sub and almost had the match winner; smart enough to pull down Ronaldo on what could have been a Juve breakaway
Just like against Madrid, we now have Juventus exactly where we want them!!!!

Lots of praise from British press and fans online over here. They enjoyed our football and team. Still have a good chance next week but whatever happens Ajax are back in the eyes of the football world. And we still play according to our own God JC .The great man would be very happy watching this current side.
Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
ten Hag is going to have to change some tactics next week as Ajax have to score to advance. I don't think the Tadic as false #9 worked yesterday and I would prefer to see either Dolberg or Huntelar start. I would move Tadic out to the left wing with Neres on the right side, sliding Ziyech into the MF with the freedom to roam. Drop Schöne to the bench and play van de Beek a little bit deeper. I assume that Veltman and de Ligt will be paired, flanked by Mazraoui and Blind. It's going to be tough for Ajax as Ronaldo will have an extra week to fully recover and they should have Cheillini and Can back to full health. Douglas Costa fill be difficult to defend if he starts.

Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
Last night a few minutes before the game started, there was a MAGICAL shot of the sunset behind the ArenA. Do you know if somehow I can find the whole game online? Just to freeze and get that shot.

May the Force be with you

I saw it too last evening and it was truly magical. I rewatched the beginning of the game and found the shot you're looking for.souras84 schreef:Last night a few minutes before the game started, there was a MAGICAL shot of the sunset behind the ArenA. Now trying to figure out how to send it to you. Sent you a pm.
Re: 10 APR 2019; Ajax - Juventus; CL Quarter Finals
I was genuinely hoping that Ten Haag would've made that change for the last 20 minutes of the game when he brought on Ekkelenkamp on for Schone. I saw Huntelaar warming up and assumed that he'd come in for Schone, Tadic to LW, Neres to RW and Ziyech slotting back into MF.Orange14 schreef:ten Hag is going to have to change some tactics next week as Ajax have to score to advance. Maybe, just maybe, he didn't want Juventus to get a look at that system and will use it in the return leg.
