We lost on penalties no surprise there. Lyon went 2-1 ahead with a great goal ,a shot from the halfway line went over the goalies head into the net. Lyon much the better side created lots of chances but Brobbey got the equaliser in injury time.
Penalties Dest missed, it was 3-3 and Nunnely to win it but he blew it. Sudden death and Lyon went 1st 6-5 and poor Hoogewerf missed and the lad cried. Nunnely should have won it ,no blame on a 16 year old kid.

I can see why Ajax put lots of older kids in but Kuhn Jensen and Ter Heide all nothing special and went off, V Gelderen got a red.

Hoogewerf indeed tried a fancy run up and it went over the bar.Stick to running up and smacking it at the goal.

Loads of moans from Dutch sites on our U19CL defeat.Agree Heitinga is a poor coach for this level and Tuesdays football was concrete, Frank de Boer style.Picking very moderate Jong players like Nunnely and Ter Heide a big mistake.

The positive is that our proper U19 side are mostly 16 and 17.Brobbey,Hansen,Taylor,Eddine all 17 this year,Hoogewerf just 16 Unuvar 15,The Timbers ,V Gelderen Llansana all 18 this year.Gravenberch is still 16. That is a very young side for U19 football and hopefully some will come through but they all have time on their side.

Not all our talents can break through at 17 like de Ligt,he is very rare, a hugh talent who was ready for the 1st at 17.

PS Having seen the U19 lose to Lyon on pens I notice our U17 lost to NEC on penalties in a cup game.

Today Feyenoord U19 vs Ajax U19 at the training ground of our rivals in Rotterdam "Varkenoord".

U17's won 4-1 v Groningen ,who had lead the table.I worked out of 14 used, 6 are U16 and 2 x U15,Sarfo started ,Brandes a sub.

We lost 1-0 ,PSV played very defensively and we could not break them down . 2 or 3 chances all to Brobbey but his finishing was off target today.They caught us on a counter , got the shot in for the only goal.

Az lost today and are a point clear of us at the top but we have game in hand.

Loss to PSV was a typical Ajax loss -- had the better of the scoring chances by far, but could not put the ball in the net -- the other team gets *one* dangerous chance all game -- make it -- and win the game. Grrrr.

U19 are a point behind AZ with a game in hand.That game is at Feyenoord.We have 5 to go but Feyenoord twice and away to AZ. Need to win the title to qualify for CL u19 for certain.

No better timing then this weekend for the Future Cup! Ajax kicking and alive and watched all over the world.

Beside Ajax, Anderlecht, Juventus, PSG, Tottenham Hotspur, Atlético Madrid, Boca Juniors and Sagan Tosu are participating. Sagan Tosu is a Japanese club.

And guess what today scheduled is Ajax - Juventus and on Sunday we have Ajax vs Spurs.

Went to see the games today. Got an access pass for all days but due to family visit will probably not see day 2 on Sunday but for sure the finals on Monday. Is bound to be very crowded at De Toekomst.

In the official little book with the tournament programme Ajax says they are proud to have the Japanese club they started a cooperation with in the tournament this year.

"Ajax will share some of our knowledge with them and will for sure also learn lessons from them too."

Well... It was directly a lesson in how to play football.

It was 0-0 and 1-0 for quite a while, with Tosu being the better team.

Only 4, 5 minutes before half time "a drinking water break" because the referee and trainers saw that in the warm weather conditions both teams would not make it anymore until half time.

I think Sagan Tosu saved a bit of energy during the rest of the Spurs game, against Ajax only 1 change in the line-up (Ajax has 23 different players in the squad) and then the Japanese kids came with full pressure on Ajax, winning the ball very quick and should have scored at least 2, 3 or 4 more.


Ajax vs Spurs... now Ajax played like Ajax again with good combinations, many good scoring chances but with Unuvar scoring the only goal it remained uncertain until the final minute if Ajax would reach the semi final. Then a Spurs player missed in front of open goal.

I see our U17 have to play tomorrow at Groningen for the u17 title.We are level on points with Groningen but our Gd is vastly better so a draw is all we need. However we have had a busy weekend and surely we should have got more than 2 days break ! These are 15 and 16 year old kids !
