17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
After a thrilling evening of Champions League football, Ajax are home this Sunday to take on NAC Breda. Let's hope that there is no letdown and the team can get back on track in the league. I wonder if some of the field players will be given a rest against an opponent that is dead bottom of the table. PSV travel to Heerenveen on Saturday which could be a tricky fixture.

Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
Same starting lineup as Real ,so Tadic as striker and Neres starts. A must win game and reduce that lead to 4 points.
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
1-0 VAR worked for us as that was a clear elbow from the NAC guy
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
A lot better by us so far just need to keep going like we are and break them down . Penalty clear cut .
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
As expected, NAC packing everyone in with a 5-4-1 formation. Ajax are doing a decent enough job of passing in tight spaces but the final shot is still lacking. As SPL noted, a clear hand ball in the box and Tadic converting from the spot. Onana had one tough save to make and did so. Ajax are clearly the dominant side and I expect a couple of more goals in the 2nd half. NAC is likely not to venture out of their defensive stance and just hope for a lucky counter.

Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
lucky for us we got that penalty because we surely weren't going to score otherwise. same old crap with the passing from back to middle to front to middle to back, and then do it all over again. also lucky that we survived the results of that crap when NAC punished us for a couple of lackadaisical back passes - would have served us right if they had succeeded. i'm really getting sick of this tired old approach instead of attacking with a sense of urgency and maybe even creating some real goal scoring chances for a change.
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
A lovely back heel into the net by the ice boy
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
Finally an attacking move - and a goal - Dolberg - 2-0
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
3-0 the flood gates are opening.Tagliafico deserved that having just hit the post
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
4-0 we can relax ,we should now score 6 or 7
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
Ziyech 5-0 and Veltman returns
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
Amazing what can happen when you finally start attacking.
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
I am curious to know how Ekkelenkamp and Veltman played. Especially Veltman, I really hope he returns to the form that made him a star back in 2013-14 season
Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
A great 2nd half and some nice goals should have got 6 or7.Good to see Veltman back again ,still a decent defender and Ekkelenkamp had a good run out a few nice touches and went close at the end.
4 points behind which leaves the title wide open as PSV are dropping points, and if a game lasted 85 mins they would be far behind us!!
Right hope you all have a nice day now ,its sunny here and I am off for a bike ride. Probably breakfast time for Orange!

Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
A convincing win over NAC with four additional goals in the 2nd half after Tadic converted from the spot to put Ajax ahead in the first. Ajax are now 4 points off the pace and even on goal difference with PSV. ten Hag put the same 11 on the pitch that faced Madrid on Wednesday with Tadic as the false striker. NAC packed everyone back but Ajax were good in tight spaces. Two very nice saves from Onana kept the clean sheet.
Player Ratings:
Onana (7) - two good saves but a dicey pass early in the first period that was almost intercepted
Tagliafico (7.5) - very solid and had one really good intervention though he didn't have a lot to do on defense
Blind (7) - lots of ball handling to do in the NAC end of the field
de Ligt (7) - solid at the back
Mazaoui (6.5) - good match and saw some action in the MF when Veltman came on
Schöne (6.5) - solid play coming off at the half
de Jong (7) - really bossed the MF and I can't remember him making a bad pass
van de Beek (7) - the post saved one of his really hard shots
Neres (7.5) - really smooth play and I have always liked how he doesn't dwell on the ball when someone else is open
Tadic (7.5) - MOTM for me really good passing and his 2nd goal was from a really tight angle
Ziyech (7) - solid enough for me
Dolberg (6.5) - cheeky back heel goal and some good play in the box
Veltman (5.5) - good to see him finally get into a match after the long lay off
Ekkelenkamp (6) - well controlled ball in the box and got off a good shot that was saved in the end
An interesting couple of weeks coming up. Off to ADO next week with a mid-week Beker semi against Feyenoord in Rotterdam followed by a home game against PEC Zwolle and then the return tie in Madrid. Ajax must have taken something out of Real Madrid who lost at home today against Catalan side Girona 1-2. I'm still got some hope that we can get a result at the Bernabeu.

Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
Veltman came in at right back and did OK in the almost 20 minutes that he played. Since NAC had a lot of trouble getting the ball out of their half, he did not have to do much defending. He seemed to be fine on the ball. Ekkelenkamp looked good and as I noted in my player ratings he had one really good shot on goal when he got the ball inside the box. He had an earlier shot that he skied over the post. Really cannot make any judgement about his future as the opposition was too poor.Ayman schreef:I am curious to know how Ekkelenkamp and Veltman played. Re: 17 FEB 2019; Ajax - NAC Breda; Match Day 22
I was starting to get worried by the 30th minute with the score being 0-0. Obvious handball which led to the penalty.
Also, loved the backheel goal by Dolberg.
Back within 4 points of Lightbulbs.

Still think Veltman can do a job for us as a squad player.Mazraoui can play midfield and I would prefer Veltman to Kristensen.
Ekkelenkamp is a workman like Mf but is not 19 until April so is still learning.
