Phew. We've been pretty awful today, but at least we get the three points with thanks to a bit of luck and some questionable defending from Heracles
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo
well taken goal that must be it now.

Whew! I can breathe again.
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo

I'm not completely relieved but that's a pretty important goal...

What about now?
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo
We now know why Blind is not a striker!

Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo
Blind should have scored twice.
Oh oh Eriksen
Oh oh Eriksen

Ha, commentator's a real cynic... "good for the transfer value", he says.
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo
Going down to 10 men was a blessing in disguise - it brought them out of their shell and have us lots of openings
Re: 07 Apr 2013: Ajax - Heracles Almelo
By the way, this is very easy to say in hindsight, but if Vermeer hadn't come out of his area Castillion would have had a very good opportunity on goal and maybe made it 1–1. Who knows what would've happened from there. As it turned out, Vermeer managed to make the foul outside the area, Heracles didn't convert and now we're winning 4–0. I doubt it was a calculated risk on Vermeer's part... just funny how it worked out.Orange14 schreef:Well that was one of the biggest bondhead plays of the season. Crap defending to give away the break and a dumb play by Vermeer to go in on the challenge. No complaints about the Red card from me.

The red card was a scare. After that we were forced to defend more. Still we looked dangerous with some good counters. The goal from Siggy couldn't have come in to a better place. The red card made the guys work harder and Heracles never really got their come back hopes that high. Our back four has come a long way. Toby and Niklas are excellent in Eredivisie standards and Blind and van Rhijn are not bad either. In the end the difference in the teams skill level and stamina could be seen in the score line.
Not too worried about Vermeers suspension. Cillesen is a good goalie with something to prove. Of course he lacks game rhythm and The Philips stadium is not the easiest of places to play. The pressure will be high. Really hope he can handle it. What a game it's going to be!

The red card mistake for me goes to De Jong for one of the many wrong passes he made today...

Weird match and an ugly win. Totally poor play in the first half and then three goals scored when playing a man down, go figure. I couldn't tell who was at fault when Castillion got clear and went in on Vermeer, maybe Schöne and Alderwiereld; the replay focused only on the Vermeer challenge. It doesn't matter since three points still go up in the table for Ajax leading into the PSV game next week. I hope the 'A' team of the second half shows up and not the 'F' team of the first half.
Player Ratings:
Vermeer (3) - poor play on the cross in the first half and reckless challenge resulting in the sending off in the second
Blind (7) - good play again today and a bit unfortunate not to get on the scoreboard, reckless challenge in stoppage time and was lucking not to get carded
Moisander (6.5) - good but let Castillion get behind him when the game was still in doubt
Alderwiereld (7) - solid play and that cross field pass to Blind was beautiful
van Rhijn (7) - really solid when we were a man down, kept his head in the game
Schöne (7) - nice job in the midfield today
Eriksen (6.5) - had a good game but the weak pass to Babel was inexcusable, you have to convert breakaways (and Eriksen knew it)
de Jong (6) - very quiet match but helped out on defense when Vermeer was sent off
Fischer (5.5) - not necessarily his fault but I only saw about two touches by him while he was on the pitch
Sigthorsson (6.5) - got the necessary second goal
Boerrigter (6) - decent enough
Cillessen (6.5) - tough coming on after a sending off and was up to the challenge though he really didn't have and difficult saves to make
Babel (7) - glad to see him healthy and back on the field, played very well in his short stint
We continue our strong spring performance as in the past two years. A difficult fixture awaits in Eindhoven next week and we will need 90 minutes of focus.

Well the sending off was the turning point as we scored the 2nd straight away. After that there was only one result . Would love to know how they worked out injury time today ie 3 mins. Vermeer's sending off and injury lasted about 3 mins Cillessen's injury another 2 mins ,6 subs so a min of 8 mins.
Anyway with 10 men we win 4-0 ,3 points clear, 5 wins in a row. A draw next week v PSV will be ok as Vitesse and F Word play each other the following week.I do not think we will drop many more points as we have finished with a long winning run for the last 3 years, even in Jol's 1st year when Twente pipped us.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but Mohamed Moallim is speculating on Twitter that FdB is considering Van der Sar (!) as backup keeper for next week with Vermeer suspended and Van der Hart injured. (Cillessen to start, of course.)

The red card was as obvious as a red card can be, but it all went a bit weird.
Vermeer brought the guy down, I looked at the referee and he was gesturing "it's nothing". I looked at the linesman; he kept his flag down. Didn't do a thing.
Then all of a suddent he ref pulled out the red card after all (it took him pretty long to decide), so I started wondering: what made him change his mind. Not the linesman, that's for sure. Was it the '4th official' at the sideline? Did the 4th official look at the footage first? If so, what are the rules for that?
Just curious; I'm not saying that Vermeer should not have been red carded.
Anyways - good win, some absolutely superb goals. I'm not worried about Cillessen; he'll be fine in Eindhoven.
What does strike me: NEC and Heracles created some major chances at the ArenA and I think this was at least partly down to the absence of Poulsen. Very underrated bloke. He's so useful in front of the defence and we will need him in Eindhoven next week.
