Embarassing.
De Jong : I thought we did better last year, especially at the beginning of the match at the Bernabéu, so it's disappointing we didn't do more this time
However, it seems that there's still chance for spot 2. If we recover from this.

Quote from de Volkskrant, by the way:
"The reality of 1995 can not be compared to the reality of 2012. Ajax paid 10 million euros in total for the 18 players who faced Real Madrid. José Mourinho's all star team cost Real Madrid 472 million euros."

Frank de Boer, Ajax coach
I thought we played very badly. We never reached our level

Yep, this was also on Twitter before the game:Kowalczyk schreef:Quote from de Volkskrant, by the way:

Orange, I agree about the midfield. Poulsen does some important defending for us but his passing is amazingly bad. Eriksen is inconsistent (tightly marked last night btw) and although I think he's a bit underrated on this forum, Siem de Jong vanishes against good opposition.Mohamed Moallim (@jouracule) schreef: Tale of the tape; Ajax XI... combined CL games: 123, average age: 24, cost to assemble: €4.9M vs. RM XI... games: 641, age: 27, cost: €316M.

What else did we expect ? What goes around comes around. This is just the downside of the nursery-of-Europe philosophy.
And the current Real is the most notorious Frankenstein monster created by the UEFA modern football rules.

Tom_, you hit it right. If Eriksen gets tightly marked we have nobody to relieve the pressure. Mourinho figured this out while watching the match against Twente last Saturday.
It's too bad that FdB gets so invested in players (look how long it took for him to figure out that Janssen was not a solution but a problem). Siem de Jong appears to be a very decent fellow but is really no more than a journeyman footballer. Unfortunately he's not good enough to spark any interest from teams outside of the Eredivisie and we may be stuck with him because of this.
We are never going to be able to compete against these kinds of teams given the financial resources that they have. Even when Platini's FFP rules kick in the difference will still be too large. I still think the club is on the right track in terms of player development and am excited by Hoesen, Fischer, Boccara, Sporkslede, Menig, and the rest. We are true to the Ajax way after a period of wandering in the desert. I would just like to see us get a better CL draw (keep Ruud Gullit away from the CL selection show!).

Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: 03 Oct 2012: Ajax - Real Madrid CF
with the draw that was made it is a bit hard to get motivated when finishing 3rd is going to be a minor miracle. Still it was good to watch on Sky ,as it looks like sopcast has packed up. Vermeer was my m.o.m . after our goal we came back in it for a while before Ronaldo destroyed us. Poulsen and de Jong were very weak and somehow we need to invest in some midfielders.
