Re: Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen was just substituted in the WC qualifier against Spain. Not clear how bad the knock is. Hope it isn't serious or we don't have anyone on the backline. Jan was starting at left fullback.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: Jan Vertonghen
Out for a couple of weeks so possibly 3 games. Atouba will have to play left back and Wielaert or Oleguer may have to play.

Re: Jan Vertonghen
I read that Everton are preparing a move for Vertonghen.
Check the 'article' (this forum post is actually longer, I think...) in the Daily Mail: HERE.
Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Re: Jan Vertonghen
He did say he wants to join a top team and Everton are never going to be in the CL . It is bad enough seeing Pienaar and Heits playing for them but Vertonghen ,oh dear . He is my favourite player and imo will be as good if not better than Vermaelen. A year a go Everton wanted him but he said he wanted a big team.
If we get to the CL I think he will stay for another year.

Re: Jan Vertonghen
Just opened my computer and current sky news comes up with sports news and my favourite Ajax player . Headline that Jan does not think he will be leaving and will spend another season here. This would be good news indeed.
Re: Jan Vertonghen
I guess if Stekelenberg ends up leaving that Jan will captain the squad.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!

Re: Jan Vertonghen
Surely both Jan and Maarten must realise that leaving doesn't mean moving on to bigger and better things.
Sure you may get a bigger pay cheque but it's not a step towards better things.
Look at Maduro, Babel and Urby as "shining" examples. If I was harsh, I'd actually have KJH in that list as well... .

Re: Jan Vertonghen
KJH is a different kind of example because he didn't come up from our youth ranks. Jan and Maarten are in different situations, Maarten is already very exeriencied at club and international level so I believe he wouldn't suffer the same fate as a player that left "too early". Jan is well established and experienced compared to the likes of Toby or other younger players, but can still benefit from "Ajax grooming". He will leave at some point, but Ajax offers many perks right now: championship team, champions league, being a leader and possibly a captain, BEING SUPER AWESOME FOR A SUPER AWESOME TEAM
, and a familiar setting. It was good news to read he feels like staying. And remember Jan's the MAN.

Re: Jan Vertonghen
Spurs Arsenal and Man City all want him. If he does not leave in January he will next summer. I quess we could do worse than bring Chivu back but history shows bringing back old heros has not worked in the past.
Re: Jan Vertonghen
I hope this is not a repeat of selling our captain at midseason. Chivu is one concussion away from ending his career and has been very poor for Inter this year.SPL schreef:Spurs Arsenal and Man City all want him. Re: Jan Vertonghen
I knew he was playing poorly this season but overlooked the concussion bit . Does not sound that great after all
Re: Jan Vertonghen
No need to panick, by the end of this year, ajax will be close to the table toppers (whoever it is) and Ajax will be in the CL. That would be an incentive for Vertonghen to stay, I mean look at Man City they are almost out of the CL.
Re: Jan Vertonghen
He had a bad injury a little over a year ago and it's why he wears the soft head guard when he plays.SPL schreef:I knew he was playing poorly this season but overlooked the concussion bit . Does not sound that great after all

Re: Jan Vertonghen
Judging by the way they played their last game, our boys will be lucky to finish in the top half.Ayman schreef:No need to panick, by the end of this year, ajax will be close to the table toppers (whoever it is) and Ajax will be in the CL. Bon vayage Jan. Wishing you every success at Tottenham. Hope you get more than your fair share of bragging rights vs. Thomas Vermaelen and co.

Re: Jan Vertonghen
finally completed ,good luck to him .He has been my favourite Ajax player for the last 2 or 3 years and I will look to see how he does. My sons are Arsenal fans so they will have to get used to the idea that my favourite footballer is a Spurs player.
